Add him with Potter to the pile marked "bullet dodged"

Although I'm less than convinced it's the last we'll hear from either of them. Teflon Jon's Southampton kink means this guy will be in the running in the future.

I hate how dogmatic managers have become, it's this Guardiola mentality which he has inflicted the entire game. Managers HAVE to have a style, now, and that's the only way they're willing to play - they would sooner lose games playing to their system, than abandon it to win. Football is such a fluid game, opponents are always different, players are always different, it's a game that requires pragmatism - I think Martin is the most extreme example of 'well the system is the system'.

This is what annoys me now when people defend managers with "he hasn't got his players", a decent manager should be able to utilise the players he has and change his style to fit them in.

Play style isn't a bad thing. The problem is how you adapt your style to specific real time game situations. The most bizarre thing is how a lot of managers find so easily jobs even after huge failures. I can name easily more than a dozen of them. Even Rooney has the audacity to criticise on TV panels other managers! It's bonkers.

It reeks of Norwich. Manning's made a shocking start and I think they would look to his ultimately successful Southampton season in the Championship as good enough justification. Used to play for them as well.

I doubt Norwich would go for Martin once they sack the Mandroid. One of the main criticisms of the latter from fans is the soooooo boring horseshoe possession football he is obsessed by.

Martin is that on steroids,  even taking to one side the local connection.

I don't rate Manning either. Failed to get MK Dons up, walked out of Oxford, led Bristol City to the play offs but got embarrassed and then walked out.

I think you're right that Martin would be linked with Norwich given his playing days.

Thing with someone like Martin hes not sort of manager too own up he got it wrong or he was crap at a club. There always an excuse. Comes across that hes got an high opinion of himself.

Martin and Potter two managers just massively overated.

He's the worst kind of manager, obsessed by his own ego to try to adapt. Even Pep has gone and got Donnaruma, moving away from his ball playing gk gameplan. No doubt Russell will get a new job by bamboozling some naive owner (Top) with his jargon.

These guys do their best work in selling themselves.

I think he’s done now anywhere near the top level. Next job will be somewhere like Bolton or Plymouth, followed by a Tranmere or Shrewsbury before he fades down the non league pyramid.

All the time blaming the mind set and fear in his players, not his tactics.

Most annoying thing about him for me is his interviews and the shite he comes out with.

All managers talk platitudes and cliches it's the nature of interviewing everyone after every bloody game but the bloke never seems to offer up any humility or introspection and wreaks of self-preservation based nonsense like Brendan did.

As noted above, their best skill is selling themselves, in the first few roles getting the role is half the battle because once they're in they're getting paid their entire contract regardless of circumstance. It's only now that the pair of them are really past their sell by date and on their way down the pyramid rather than up.

He's obviously, obviously a complete cretin but I have got to say that I have felt sorry for him in the past 6 weeks.

He's a chancer & not up to the job, but I'm not sure that him being a David Brent/Brendan Rodgers wannabe should result in the treatment that has been thrown his way.
