Wouldn't put it past us.

I think we will eek out a mid-table finish because of individual quality from the likes of JJ, Ramsey and Fatawu but we clearly don't have a lot of stomach and a few more bad results could see things turn ugly.

Or six years ago when we put 9 past the Saints at their place on this Friday coming, 2019!!

5 years ago we'd already bottled the League Cup semi v Villa and had the post COVID collapse that cost us Champions League football. That was after the cracks had already appeared.

Of course we can go down, happened before albeit with a lesser talented squad, but this bunch look as though they will turn up and think they will win regardless of the efforts they output which is what worries me.

I think next season will be the worrying one. Quite a few players leaving on frees, Abdul/Monga et al will leave, money could be there to spend (PSR permitting), and if we dont replenish the squad with anything better than what we currently have (tough ask I know!) I will be worried for what season will bring.

That being said, I think we are in for a few seasons of mid table boredom, but if it means we blood the youngsters and back the academy/find a footballing identity again I wouldn't be so bothered.

Lots of knee jerk cynicism in response to this question. Is it possible? After seeing a team with Vardy, Barnes, Tielemans, and Maddison get relegated - anything is possible. But is it likely? I don't think it is. I think if we continue with Marti and don't heavily support his vision in January we will finish mid table, below the playoff spots. We are definitely at the point in the season where we have to try something different because the approach being used right now is not working. Its very apparent that Marti has been found out.

Maybe not this season but its coming if things don't change in ownership,  and quick.

Been on the decline for a few years now and some of our fans still won't acknowledge it.

Sheffield Wednesday will be back in the top flight before us and things will now start to turn for them

I was so sure we wouldn’t get relegated from the PL. Every game week, I was confident we’d finally turn it around,  but we all know how that ended.

I won’t let myself be that naïve again.  Anything is a possibility.

No we lost to  both hull and Millwall the year we won the championship.

Have an easier run coming up now. We're miles off being relegation candidates.

Unfortunately we lost to Blackburn and Middlesbrough as well.

The Liverpool reverse fixture on Boxing Day was one crack for sure, as was the Norwich home game before it from recollection....

It's funny but you just kind of accepted it at the time but that Norwich team was awful. Didn't they have that Scandi striker who was top tier "good on Football Manager" material?

We've probably stay up this season because of the individual brilliance of Abdul, Ramsay and Ricky. But all 3 will be off next season, maybe even Monga. That's when we're in deep trouble.

The greatest season in LCFCs history was probably the catalyst for the slippery slope that the club are now struggling to navigate

What that epic season did was heighten  expectations but the reality was and indeed still is that income generation would never match ambition and whilst for a couple of seasons player sales filed the gap, well to a degree they did, the sticking plaster being applied to the accounts would at some point be ripped away and the excessive sums being wasted year on year would eventually impact

It was all well and good the club winning legal argument against the leagues but the fact that they, the leagues, had cause tells its own story. The day of reckoning was always going to arrive.

I am not suggesting that the club will spiral ala Sheffield Wednesday but to compete at the top level will need a massive investment but without a change of ownership or at least a change of direction from the current owner the mess the club are in is only going to get deeper.

A quick reminder of our record for the 2007-08 season, when we went down....

 P46  W12  D16  L18  F42  A45  GD-3  Pts 52

Astonishing to go down with 52 points and a GD of only -3, having won points in 28 of 46 matches. WBA won the title with 81 points.

In a typical season, dire as it was, our 2007-08 record would have a team finishing 16th-20th.

But back then, failing to create enough chances and score enough goals was also the problem....

Even if this is one of the weakest squads for years, it's still strong enough that it shouldn't go down, even with a points deduction.

But keep failing to create and score, get a points deduction and relegation certainly isn't impossible.

Probably the most balanced assessment ive read this far.

We're certainly not playing well or looking like a force to be reckoned with but then again, with the exceptions of Coventry and Middlesboro, i cant see any other stand-outs who i would bet my house on finishing Top6 as everyone else is equally inconsistent and Millwall generally fade at some point in the season.

I think that even if we carry on playing as we are, we'll probably finish mid-table at worst as there are some teams in this division that are so poor that i doubt that even we could lose to them....but then again, i wouldnt bet my house on that either. :)

Personally, disregarding all the knee-jerk reactions, i would still be quite surprised if we didn't finish in the Top6.  Not because we are that good.....but purely because the rest are that bad!!

I think what's quite alarming is how little ridicule it's getting lol I expected the idea to be shot down. Maybe we really are just accustomed to it.

Aiyawatt takes us to League One again before the Premier League - 90% sure of that.

I disagree. We’ve seen “too talented to go down” teams go down in the past. Finishing mid-table with the squad of underachievers who believe they are God’s gift to football would be quite the achievement given the current situation. Add that 10 point deduction coming our way, and we are 23rd on the table. Going down is absolutely a possibility, and probably likely. A book should be written about the epic mismanagement of this club.

We know a deduction is incoming yet this squad have next to no fight. So any deduction that puts us in that fight i see a white flag being raised.

Said this weeks ago when we could win a game.

I think back to Wolves under Solbakken who were tipped to go back up and started the season well, but dropped like a stone and were relegated. They had some solid players for this level as well.

I don’t think we’ll go down but if the mentality doesn’t improve we could do, that’s the key thing as well as any points deduction.

If past form predicts the future we should be ok for a good run in the championship. That is our level historically.Level 3 highly unlikely?

Not scoring many is okay, if you're very good defensively, which we aren't, I don't think we'll go down, but that's down to us having individuals dragging us through, if we lose one or two to long term injuries, it may be an issue.
