There’s not anybody I want to drop to accommodate Ayew or Carranza.

The one occasion we did play two up top those two slow, “hold up” merchants played together and it was predictably awful.

Can we get a firkin manager in to play 442 . Let start a firkin revolution.

If only! It will come back, but only when Pep tells them to.

Then he’ll be the messiah all over again.

Six hours later and we’re playing 4-3-2…..

what's wrong with just lumping it and crossing it into the box and having a huge brickhouse of a forward?

One problem is the lack of a huge brickhouse of a forward.

Joking aside though, with modern tactics, inverted fullbacks and pressing intensity, the midfield two get overrun too easily.

Unless you have two hard working forwards and wingers, which we don’t, then you’re screwed. Even then to do it for 90 minutes would be a rough ask.

We’d need two strikers also that have skill sets that aren’t typically taught now, as it’s almost a little and large combination that the classic 4-4-2 adopted. Most players are trained today to be part of the team, dropping deep when in possession than press defenders when not etc, rather than play a single position like a poacher or target man.

The players we have within the squad currently are more specialist possession based players, like Winks, Vestergaard, Ricardo, Soumare etc. They’d get overrun in a 4-4-2 and we just don’t have the high energy players to drop in. We’ve got to work with the tools we’ve got unfortunately.

We would also need wingers that drive on the outside and cross the ball in, as that drags defenders wider for the two forwards. Our wingers are almost exclusively inverted wingers, so like to come inside the fullback and drive at goal.

To play this system, I think we’d need two wingers, two forwards, two centre mids and we are fixated on this style of football now, we’d need a major squad overhaul, which we just aren’t going to do.

If we wanted to play it with our current squad, we’d be looking at a team of:

GK - Begovic / Stolarkzyk

LB - Kristiansen

CB - Okoli

CB - Souttar

RB - Faes

LM - Fatawu

CM - Winks

CM - Choudhury

RM - James

ST - Daka
ST - Mavididi

Whoever tolls that team out is getting pelters :dunno:

To be honest I’d take Long ball, Ian Ormondroyd and Steve Walsh up front than this shite tippy tappy 65% possession nothing football served up by this clueless manager. Stick Vestergaurd up front! Can’t be any worse than the other options or than he is at defending
