Inexplicably the two grumpy middle aged blokes near me yesterday thought he had a bad game and were moaning about every little action he was doing. Personally thought he was one of the best players on the pitch.

Tbf Winks is purely a pivot, Braybrooke is playing as a more attacking 8. Page took the Pivot role and was far more dynamic than Winksy was last season.

I’m happy to look at him and page through blue tinted specs - he was decent at times again last night and does some really nice stuff - really nice - however and I said similar on the page thread - he did give the ball away a hell of a lot - tbf most of that was trying to play balls forward which I’ll forgive for the most part but his final ball is definitely still a good bit away from any kind of consistent quality - we are in league 1 and he has the opportunity to play and play and play and get that final ball better - same goes for alves and Howell and page - all kinds of really nice smooth quality at certain times by all 4 and all other kinds of misjudged, mistimed and poor quality final balls at other times from all of them- think Russel said pretty much that in his interview as well about the team as a whole - fingers crossed it’s 70/30 in the positive stuff over the coming games - if so we will create loads and im sure with Chaplin and Riis in the side start to score more as well

I think he’s been excellent last few games. He has a few moments where under hits a pass or whatever and he’s learning at this level like a lot of them, but since I was critical of him a few games ago he’s been very very good.

I think it’s weird he’s playing 8 and Louis is playing 6. I feel like they are better the other way round. Certainly think Louis is better 8 than Sammy in terms of goal threat. Maybe it’s about higher upfield pressing and Sammy is better that? A bit like wilf as a dynamic 8 under Enzo?

When he takes the ball on the turn and accelerates away from players you know he's going to be top draw, you can see it. He'll iron out the inconsistencies eventually and I think we're going to have a future England star in our hands.

him, Joseph and Page are already playing passes and delivering qualities that are above league one level.

Their take on the half turn or under pressure, change of pace into space, awareness of position on the pitch, switching of play and competitiveness in 50/50s is already really strong. Their decision making, confidence in shooting, strength and stamina will improve as the season progresses if managed correctly. It will go the opposite way if playing time and balance of side is not managed correctly.

I think Page's ability to crouch low on the turn and get out of almost any situation is a huge weapon, we open up the midfield in a blink of an eye and Braybrooke is finding pockets of space higher up. I would never have called it like this either but I can see logic to it.

I think, and it pains me to say it, that Martin has to take a lot of credit here.

Fair play to him for seeing it differently I guess.

I can’t remember the last player we had who was able to half turn out of danger so much.

Maddison was obviously class at it, but it’s one thing to do it in the attacking third and another to constantly be receiving / turning to start a counter deep in your own half, his ability to carry us up the pitch is a major bonus too. Great to see.

Always 2 sides to the coin though right - and like I said I’m giving both the benefit of the doubt all year no matter what but…

page in the 6 means a LOT of balls given away very very close to our goal - he needs to learn when and when not to have 3 or 4 touches and when that turn and go is on and when it isn’t - a better attack scores at least one from him doing that not so well the other night - he is young - he is learning and I’m backing him all the way to do less and less of that and pick the right options as he plays more - so many positives but also this problem that does need a lot of work

and Sammy in that higher 8 role almost kdh like but in the right channel not left has the opposite problem - he glides up the pitch beautifully at times and will always take he ball and again I’m giving him all year and time to get better but.. he has zero goal threat currently and also his final ball has been very lacking in quality - it’s all lively until the bit that really matters that killer pass or ability to score a goal - at the minute these attributes aren’t quite there and he isn’t going to get 20 goal contributions which would be a game changer for us

no negativity from me just some realism on what both need to work on and get better at - real positive signs from both of them and alves that they can cut it starting at this level but also plenty to work on to make sure we have less problems at one end if the pitch and more joy at the other

For a fairly tall lad it's strange to see. Can tell he's gone through a growth spurt because he plays like John McGinn and uses his arse to shield the ball. He'll soon realise he's got enough upper body strength to be able to bully other midfielders. Once he gets there and he has both aspects to his game he'll be a real force.

Page losing the ball in the 6 is more a case of inexperience or overconfidence though. Coupled with the fact he looked tired towards the end of the game on Tuesday.

He will absolutely lose the ball in a daft position and we'll be punished for it. Worth coming to terms with that. But he'll learn from it.

Id rather Page loses the ball trying to make something happen than be like Winks and playing it safe by passing it side to side.

100000%.

Page will win us a lot of points by himself. I'm just pre-empting the fact that there will be a game where he tries to turn on the edge of his box and it'll cost us.

Reminds me of one of Mongas first appearances (might of even been his first at the KP). Received the ball on the wing, had nowhere to go to passed sideways to recycle play. Old bloke near me just moaned loudly 'What you doing you f4king pr1ck!'

I dont see why anyone would complain about Sammy's performance, which was mature and energetic. Last 30 mins he gave the ball away a few times, but lets not pretend all players dont do this.

He had a very good game up to 70 minutes when he visibly tired .

Unfortunatly we had no like for like to change him with, maybe the

new Brighton loanee can do that job.

My dad has got a real thing about him being 'bang average' - can't understand why personally. Maybe a lot of people have heard about these 'prospects' in our academy and are expecting them to come out looking like the finished article? Or better than they actually are? No idea, but I find it very odd.

You can tell Braybrooke has the potential to score more, his striking ability isn't quite consistently theee yet but his ability to create space from carries/dribbles is great and he keeps arriving in the box. Maresca identified KDH could score far more by playing a bit higher (I thought this too, he was prolific at Blackpool) - as someone else has said, there are similarities between the two.

He has 2 career goals in 48.8 nineties but the vast majority of his appearances have been deeper for both Chesterfield and Newport. He could conceivably have doubled his tally in 3 games. He'll end up in the 5-10 goals bracket I think this season. Very sma ll sample size but he's on 0.10 xG per 90 so far and yet to have a really good chance, it was the right decision to square it to Bob Reid but maybe next time he'll have a go himself.

Encouraging enough shot map.

Joint top for chances created in League One so far

Indeed I fully expect (or at least hope) that the stats will remain consistent throughout. With his teammates improving their input and conversion then Sammy’s input will become obvious.
