To be fair even on crutches he would be more of a threat than Daka and Ayew…..

He would probably want a hearty wage though….

Don’t know if this is a good idea or not? Would rather we be looking over seas for a young striker instead.

Much rather give Evans more opportunities. This bloke is nearly 40 and had both his legs folded in a car crash. Not for me

Aged 35 so sometime off 40. Fitness is the issue still

Can’t see him asking for much on a short term deal

no one will take him on until hes played for a few months

It's a sensible deal, just feels like we're two steps behind as always with our prep

Antonio could have been playing 21's with us for weeks, could have played Tuesday night for example.

Now he's training with us and wont have a 21's fixture until next Friday, by which point we're two games without Daka down already

Well it’s not like we have just given him a phone call out the blue and asked him if he can play  on Saturday….

hes training with us which means we are assessing him.. we’ll probably get some 11 v 11 games going to assess him and some 5v5 to assess fitness.

this might be a sign of desperation, but it’s still a calculated act, if it happens

Maybe now is the first time he’s been able to get his fitness to a level required to begin proper training

You'd probably put him in the same category as Ayew. Good squad player, occasionally offers something decent but ultimately past it. Low wages, short contract, why not.

If he's fit, over his injury and happy with reduced wages, then yes I'd have him.

He's experienced, can lead the line, you'd have thought he's likely to be motivated after the accident and he's more of a presence than what we have. Can play in a few attacking positions.

Having said that, it does once again show how far we've fallen.

36 years old, Premier League wages, short term deal, hasn’t put a pair of boots on in well over a year and has always relied on physical attributes.

To be fair, just for the sake of facts.

Played two 70 mins for West Ham 21's in August just before the window shut.

IF we can get him on a 6 month deal before re-evaluating, and if it's not on stupid money like 80k a week, and IF we can get Winks off the books and send Carranza back, i'd take him on a short term emergency deal. Guy is an absolute handful and at this level he could get 10 goals from the remaining games which is a massive upgrade on what we have now.

I'd compromise and offer 50k a week if the above conditions can be met.

That's more than Vardy's on. We haven't got this sort of luxury.

Must have had a problem then cos otherwise he’d have been training somewhere before now.

I'm so conflicted on this. So I'll lay out both sides of the argument.

On paper, this could be a good deal for us. Whatever we might think about where he is now, Antonio has a proven track record in English football so injuries aside (which can be allowed for in the 10 million medicals we will do) it appears to be a relatively low risk one if done on a low cost, short term deal.

I do understand those saying that we should take a punt on a youngster or someone playing in a more unknown league, but I would say that while they will have a much higher potential for resale, we don't have the luxury of time and we need someone that can get us a respectable amount of goals, right now. Is Antonio that guy? Who knows, but he probably has a higher chance of being that guy than another Carranza.

In an ideal world, we need both a proven goalscorer now AND one for the future but have we got the dollars? Doesn't sound like it, and I think realistically Jake Evans is a way off being considered next in line. We need someone in between now and him.

All of that said, the success of Antonio if he joins it rests on our ability to negotiate a favourable deal which I have no faith in our recruitment team to do.

Id completely forgotten he has just come back from a life threatening car crash at 35.

If he'd broken his leg playing football that's one thing but Antonio really should be retired after an accident like that at his age, why are we considering this.

I think he'd already been released, they let him train just before the window shut and get those games in in front of scouts as a favour.

I imagine it would have been difficult for him to make much of an impression after 9 months out.

Thing is I think he sort of semi retired at that points, started doing media etc.

Perhaps he's just got back into it last few months and wants another crack at it, I doubt he wants to retire after an avoidable car crash and not really being able to end his West Ham career on a good note.
