People need to stop thinking about transfer fees and more about player compensation, we like a gambling addict at this point, we are addicted to signing high wage EPL veterans.  This is not recovering the club, its a short termism panic.

Far better to lure a lower league striker here.

I get you’re not a fan of signing him but 
I highly doubt he will cost £5 Million

That’s the problem with this thread. We don’t yet know what his wages will be or what sort of contract we’ll be offering him. That really is key to whether this is good deal or not. 
 

Until we know that we’re just speculating and getting excited (or not) over nothing.

He won't get massive wages and he won't get a signing on fee full stop, because he's not going to be getting a long contract.  He'll get one to the end of the season if he's offered anything.  Signing him isn't comparable to any signing because the circumstances are so niche.

Antonio isn't being inundated with offers, hence training (and currently nothing more) with us.  Antonio has the opportunity to play at a World cup with Jamaica.  He needs to prove he can still play football in order to put himself in the frame for that experience. He can't afford to price himself out of the opportunity, if it even is an opportunity.

He was on around 90kpw at West Ham.  If he wants more than 10% of that, then see ya later Ant.

 

Though I do agree it's better to lure someone else in, but that might not be a possibility.

The main reason we’re even considering him is because he’ll be very cheap compared to other options. So in the unlikely event that he shows in training that he’s fully recovered from his injuries and could do a decent job for half a season, his low cost makes him an attractive choice.

 

I completely understand people’s scepticism over Antonio, but anybody suggesting he’ll be expensive is completely missing the fundamental point about why the club is even looking at him.

As long as he isn't on 30k and as long as he isn't on a contract that goes past June, with maybe an option for a 2nd year if milestones are met then why not? The way I see it we don't have any effective centre forwards at the minute.

Based on what? All we have to go on is our track record, which for the most part is overpaying wages and offering contracts that are too long.

 

There is no evidence or track record that we'll put a "pay as you play" package together.

He's scored 7 goals. The first time he's scored 7 or more in a season outside of Scotland and he's 28 next month.

Agree regards French football.

Also agree he's not a 'world beater', but he's clearly got something in terms of ability.

I just find it bizarre that he wasn't used or even given a chance, when we needed striking options so desperately.

his wages wouldnt be "sky high" think even the player knows no club would pay him what he was on at West Ham after whats happened with him. 

and you say about "transfer fess and player compo" yeah but lets not forget about all the things that come with buying a player etc, more than just transfer feees, thats the same with loaning a player too, with loan fees etc

also the club wouldnt sign him on a 5 yr deal, it would be till the end of the season(on a base wage which would probably be low with performance bonuses) kinda like they did with Kevin Phillips 

and its not short termism, its looking at options, cos next summer we wont have 1 first team striker on the books, if he proves his worth i think he could be a decent option for a season or 2

 

and lure a lower league striker here.....yeah aint gonna happen in Jan now is it, and even in the summer......it will be the same thing as when Vardy first came here, when some fans wanted him gone cos he was "crap"

 

also we arent shopping at the top table no more, players like Antonio are ones we have to look at and find value in

 

personally think he could do a decent job for us till the end of teh season, cant do any worse than Carranza

that ex prison fella from Wycombe didn't wanna come to us for £3m we aren't getting any better for anywhere near around that mark. And if we did punt on him who went to QPR he may score minimal goals and then **** off to nowhere
