Leicester need to buy him 5 million Euros is a bargain. Whether it is possible to sell on in the same window I’m not sure. Can the Bilal money be used to fund this??  Leicester need some talent even in League one Leicester won’t have any strikers and I don’t have any confidence in recruitment after this seasons half hearted efforts to add to the strike force. I’m guessing Abdul will move on so I’d do everything to keep James if at all possible

It feels like people are reinventing the terms of the option to buy.

It’s dependent on us meeting the terms. I understand the contract with JJ is already agreed and in place.

it can’t be finalised, there is no way any agreement can be set in stone while he’s still a Rennes player and any agreement made in theory would have to change if we are relegated. He might be stupid enough to stay here if we stay up but he’s not signing in league one.

but if we are in league one, then we wouldn’t have met the terms? So the contract would be null and void.

Can’t see him staying if we are relegated

Just buy him and if the rumours are true he wants at least championship football which you can't blame him for loan him out to a championship club if we go down.

when he signed.

When Leicester came calling, it was something I was really open to,” James told the club. “I know where the club’s heading and it’s only going to go one way.

What will happen with him? There’s no chance we’re signing him now, but I wonder what will happen to the deal or how the logistics of it work now we’re going down?

Unless it's in the contract that our option is only available if we are in the Champ or above, which would seem a massive oversight if that were the case, then you buy him and sell him on.  There will be plenty of interest.

They won’t have even considered League 1 was an option so I can’t imagine there’d be anything specific like that but I have no idea what goes into these contracts.

But even the £4 mill or whatever it was will be unaffordable for us.

We just buy and sell him straight on.  We can't afford not to buy him if we go down.

We could buy him, and even if we didn’t want to sell him straight away, we could get that 4m back in a loan fee from a promoted prem team. We would likely just sell him straight away though…

You can basically track our form to when James has been fit and starting games to when he wasn't. Proper 1 man team.

Thanks! Someone at somepoint mapping points per game back to Vestergaards injury. Our whole season has been dictated by Jordan James' fitness.

Makes you wonder why we didn’t sign Lookman though when we had a similar option in place?

There’s a couple of factors I can think which is that £14 mill or whatever that was is genuinely just more to fork out that £4 mill for James. And the other is that I don’t think any of us saw Lookman exploding into the player he has, whereas we know James value would only go up.

So maybe those are the reasons. But I just get the feeling we won’t been be able to do the deal in the first place.

Bit of revisionism about Lookman.

Yes he was available for a good price but it was hardly a complete bargain. He was largely on the bench for us that season (only started 17 games and only played the full game 3 times) and we were facing PSR dilemmas.

Frankly, I seriously doubt he would have exploded like he did if he stayed here. He needed to go to improve to the world class player he's become.

I seriously doubt that another club would have signed him for more than we did. Atalanta signed him for 15m Euro.

lookman didn’t really set the division alight when he was with us, he was above average but nothing to suggest he could go on to be spectacular, which is why we probably didn’t want to justify the outlay . It’s all there for JJ.hes been very special in an absolutely awful team.

Yes I agree on all counts. I think you have basically said what I was suggesting.

It was the last one that came to mind where we didn’t take up an option so I was wondering why.

It was said we couldn’t afford it but it may be that they weren’t confident enough there was an upside to resale value. Not that it’s bothered them with most of the signings in recent years!

Obviously James value is only going to increase but I wouldn’t bank on us trying to make the deal for affordability reasons if we are too broke to even do it initially.

Yeah as just replied to AKCJ, I was wondering what the reason was as it was the last one that came to mind. I did say he didn’t show that he would become the player he did and as AKCJ said, it wouldn’t have happened in our cesspit anyway.

We just don’t know if a deal is still there to be done after relegation and whether he’d agree to come. And then if we even have the finances to do the deal even knowing he has a definitely resale value.

Not likely to be fit for Pompey. I watched his halftime warm up on Saturday and he was feeling his heel at the end of that session. When he came on (later than expected in the 2nd half)  he was barely involved. Looks like it was a desperate move by Rowett to try and get a result. Looks like the (un)holy trinity of Mukasa, Winks and Skipp in midfield again unless he finally gives Aribo a chance.
