Lascelles coming on was not needed, especially at home.

 

Why bring Silko on ahead of Richards?

You can question the tactical change, but Southampton were finding absolute acres of space in midfield and down our left hand side for the whole second half even before then.

 

The fitness levels aren't there, and the absolute basics of defending aren't there. Changing to a back 5 doesn't result in Thomas brainlessly barging his winger over, it doesnt result in Nelson watching balls over his head and getting blown over by a breath of wind, it doesnt result in a scuffed corner reaching the penalty spot and an unmarked Southampton head.

 

The team is broken and has no desire to do the absolute basics.

The subs were strange and out us on the back foot. But the problem is the mentality of these players is just piss poor.

that spurs ending was when we thought we were still competing at the top level. It hurt a lot.

Once the rot sets in its difficult to stop. Were at that point, rot too far ingrained now so its inevitable theyre dropping.

 

Damage was done long ago but at best this season was just slapping a quick plaster on all the issues.

 

Will be massive implications once they drop and a Top interview saying they are determined to get straight back will be more pointless than his last one.  By then it'll be too late for KP to exit fashionably.

How can you go from that first half to that second half? 
 

Unofrtunately, some of the blame has to lie on Kingy. He got the big decisions wrong. Their subs made an impact and ours didn’t. I don’t think we needed to bring Lascelles on and go 3 centre halves. 
 

That said. The players got all the fundamentals wrong. We were hanging on to a 3-0 lead for 45 minutes. Constantly just giving them the ball back. Putting ourselves under pressure. The minute they scored we absolutely shit our pants. There’s no other team in the 92 that would’ve surrendered that half time lead. It’s not even the 3-0 at half time that’s bothering me. It’s 3-1 up with 14 minutes (stoppage time included) left that’s the issue here. Stupid basic brain dead errors. Thomas doesn’t need to make that foul. Begovic doesn’t need to come for the ball for their second. Why is their left back completely unmarked in the 6 yard box for them to equalise. 
 

It’s so disappointing, yet so expected. You could see it coming as soon as they scored their first. 
 

From the best first half performance we’ve had all season to the absolute worst. Time is running out.

the players aren’t stupid

the fish rots from the head

the whole organisation sees that incompetence is rewarded in the board room. No surprise that there doesn’t seem to be any pride anywhere.
