Two ideas Of heard

No opposition allowed in the 6 yard area - Does this protect the goalkeeper too much

No physical contact allowed in the build up to the kick - Refs would have better chance of seeing who fouled first.

Any other suggestions?

Oh refs using the laws they already have and using them consistently

No holding of any kind, shirt, shorts, hair, arm-wrap all get a card?

They'll be a rush to claim the best positions would be like the holiday sunbeds

So no physical contact would restrict movement you'd have to find a path to avoid touching a player. Hey up ref he just touched me.

PS Not against this prefer it to the 6 yard rule as this doesn't fundamentally change the game.

Does it need to be solved? I don't think it's getting any better or worse, it's pretty much happened for as long as I've watched the game and it's ok?

Football media just likes to invent these dramas every now and then to "sell the product".

A crucial VAR decision in a tight title race right at the end of the season is obviously going to make a fuss, hence why they panicked and took about a million years to make a decision.

But I'm pretty sure 99% of people agree it was not only one but two fouls and the goal couldn't stand. Other than West Ham complaining because it might get them relegated its not really a thing.

never going to happen but I'd exclude VAR from being in use from corners. in their definition of a 'foul' there would likely be 5 or 6 fouls from every corner that will go completely unpunished until VAR makes a game changing call like it did yesterday. at which point everybody piles on to it, showing examples of why 10 other goals should have been disallowed.

leave corners to refs initial discretion. not taking 10 minutes to decide if something is a foul when there is 5 other fouls that are arguably worse in the same play

Growing up when I played it was all about being 'touch tight' but it was never holding. Needs to get back to that but it's been allowed to go too far so I can't see how it can. Of course before VAR and constant cameras looking at everything, you'd get away with a bit of pulling or blocking but it was nothing like it is now with instances like Trossard where his sole role is to hold and block. Not even care where the ball is. Why and when did defenders putting their arm around the waist of an attacker even become a thing that was accepted?

I think it has got worse of course there has been little tugs, obstruction and nudges but it was always a bit more subtle hoping the ref wouldn't see it and if he did he'd have quiet word. Now it's blatant and more extreme with wrap around holding, pulling to the ground and often the ref just turning a blind eye as it's escalated.

Last night should have seen the ref stopping the corner as the wrestling started and warning the players but he just let it all go and hence the split views.

Just get the refs to actually call fouls for holding. It's the same solution to players swearing/surrounding the refs. If you enforce the rules prroperl,y the players will just adapt like they always do. A few weeks of multiple players getting sent off for swearing/penalties given everywhere and it'll stop

just bin VAR completely in open play.

use goal line technology, clear and obvious offsides (daylight) and off the ball incidents.

Its ruining the game and anyone that says its improving it is wrong.

I think the problem with it is the rules are not actually used in the penalty area the same as on the half way line..Then VAR can look at it long enough to decide what they want to do in that instance.

Halfway line - Shirt pulls are a booking, but a coming together/contact isn't always a free kick.

Penalty box - Shirt pull is fine 99% of the time, but a coming together/contact on a keeper is usually a free kick.

I'm surprised they haven't opted for skin tight shirts

The match official already has in his armoury a yellow and red card. What more is necessary?

Or, if you really wanted to go soft on these prima-donnas introduce a sin bin like they do in rugby.

They wanted to do that but it soon quickly got rubbished and dismissed as another gimmick .

Point is those that those who rubbished and dismissed it as another gimmick don't want reform.

It works well in rugby and, no doubt, players would soon get used to it.

We wouldn't need one, we have enough shocking players.

True but they’d probably find a way to mess it up like with VAR !

The holding and pulling shirts from corners is annoying. That needs to stop. If a cross comes in during open play and a defender is holding your shirt, it’s going to be a penalty if you stop them attacking the ball.

Do the same for corners.

We just need some consistency.

I would change the rules from next season though.
