I've just read, and apologies if this has been posted already as I've not been through the whole thread, that he has won 3 games as manager since getting promoted with Southampton. 1 with Southampton in the prem. 1 at rangers. And us at Plymouth Argyle.

Leicester City are understood to be considering the future of Russell Martin after a poor start to their League One campaign,

understands.

Martin was appointed in the summer following the Foxes’ relegation from the Championship, with Leicester widely regarded as one of the favourites for promotion.

However, they have won just one of their opening five league games, while home defeats to Burton Albion and Oxford United have piled the pressure on the manager.

The defeat to Oxford proved particularly damaging, with home supporters turning on Martin and chanting “you’re getting sacked in the morning” during the game.

TEAMtalk understands Leicester’s hierarchy are now assessing the situation and considering Martin’s position as the club looks to respond to the disappointing start.

Martin is facing a battle to save his job, with the pressure building after a run of results that falls well short of what Leicester expected when they appointed him.

The situation represents another difficult chapter for Martin since guiding Southampton to promotion via the Championship play-off final against Leeds in 2024.

Since then, across three different clubs, Martin has won just three league games.

He managed just one league victory at Southampton before being dismissed in late 2024, while his subsequent spell at Rangers lasted only 122 days and again produced just one league win.

Now, with only one league victory since taking charge at Leicester, the pressure is mounting once more.

The Foxes went into the season expecting to challenge at the top of League One, but their early results have fallen well short of those expectations.

With supporters now openly expressing their frustration and the club’s hierarchy assessing the situation, Martin’s position is firmly under scrutiny.

I get that Martin is having a nightmare but let’s not look back at Rowett with rose tinted glasses, his time at Leicester was absolutely dire and the one good thing is if/when Martin is sacked, Rowett won’t be reappointed.

There manager is infinitely better than Martin that is what is going on same as Plymouth, Luton, Oxford etc all there managers are better than Martin who is absolutely dogshit.

Nah, he’s not going anywhere yet.  It’s 6 days to the next game. He’ll move LT to lb, and use 2 big cbs at Stockport.  He’ll use a DCM , and we’ll squeeze a draw or get a fluky win at Stockport.

"So I think it's going to probably take a little bit longer than I'm sure he would like. But at the same time I'm under no illusions, I feel that he is the right man for the job and you just hope that he's given the time to be able to turn things around."

I know foxestalk (like most fan forums) has a tendency to be a bit dramatic, but I think its fair to say yesterday was a huge red flag and the reaction to it is extremely valid,  good teams in transition lose it happens, but they dont lose like that, at home following a largely positive week. If we had almost any other manager in charge, I think we would still be worried, and we may be more forgiving, but we dont and we have a manager who has had results, performances like this everywhere he has been, theres nothing we can point to in his history that says this is an anomaly that is part of the process, this is what we all were worried about when he was appointed.

 

For what its worth I thought his interview through the Leicester channel was better than the radio leicester one (it still wasnt good). But you dont have to search hard to find him having the same ones and Southampton and Rangers. 

 

He has to know this is his last chance in football, get next week wrong and hes done, whilst I doubt we will sack him because we like to wait until the situation has gone past being recoverable before we act, he is now fighting for his football managerial career, there isnt an ownership/DOF in world football that will touch him after this, well maybe the guys that run OH Lueven 😅 

 

Sorry long post, I just woke up a bit sad, I was hoping he could prove us all wrong after all it feels like this is it for the club unless we get a buyer, but its looking like its going to play out exactly as we all feared.

 

Yep.... feeling rubbish... spent the morning reading the fall out 🫣

 

However....

Plymouth game wasn't great, it was like watching through your fingers...

We scored with a lucky deflection past a wrong footed goalie.

Then went and did the same again with a player just in the right place from a clearance. 

The 2nd half was pretty much scary football.

 

So... we kinda had a false dawn... built up some excitement and positivity.

 

Got a nice big crowd.... that had reduced to about 50%  capacity by 65 mins.

 

At least we woke up this morning 

And the sun is shining

So the question is: given how defensively fragile we’ve been over the past few years, and how mentally weak, why did the club appoint a manager who was guaranteed not to fix those problems? He may be fragile defensively but at least he's useless in attack.
