There was no toxicity to any of the young lads?

Booing at the end of your first league game, when you haven't even lost the game is pretty toxic. They're not likely to know who the boo's are and aren't being aimed at as they're not able to communicate with those booing

It is, but much like the cooper appointment it shows how out of touch Rudkin/Top are. You need someone the entire fanbase can rally behind, and appointing a polarising manager is just unbelievably dumb.

He shouldn't be getting booed, but anyone with any idea around the fanbase or modern football in general should of had a feeling this was going to happen.

It's because they don't care mate.

After the shit City fans have had to watch over the last couple of years, common sense would say that you appoint a manager who may have a bit of the unknown about them, a spark of excitement. Not a manager who is the archetype of a poverty Pep ball disciple, whose name fans were disparagingly chanting a couple of years ago, at a game he wasn't even managing at!

The guy has zero goodwill amongst our fans so is on a hiding to nothing,  especially if the assumptions about his one dimensional approach to the game manifest themselves.

He's done if he doesn't have a good start, quicker than any manager we've had before.

All this if he learns nonsense, the fact is he has to get off to a good start here and so that means his style of play is going to have to get results from the off, otherwise as said at the time of his appointment it's just an unneccessary appointment that heaps more risk on us to fail and more toxicity from our fan base.

It will be too late for him to learn as we'll have made things very unpleasant and the players will once again crumble. That's not our fault by the way, it's the custodians of this football club. They haven't got a clue.

And so the cycle continues. The fanbase must also bear the responsibility in some way, shape or form if they're not able to show even a modicum of patience and it translates to brainless booing and toxicity. If the toxicity and booing is earned like it was the last 2 seasons, absolutely, go for it.

Deeply worried that he’s just told radio Leicester that he’d like a couple in who’d “been there and done it

The thing is most of the 'experience' come out for the bigs games all kitted up yet when they get pressed shut themselves,I was a prominent member of the academy yts when we went up,was always us young lot scorin a goal,we were game as ****,hear the old pro lot now are(over 30) and av 3 year contract and don't bother anymore, pisses me off that you get the so called old pros sitting in midfield with the 30k p/w in the adidas gear, yet when push comes to shove and they've equalised say 'I can't run', that's well and fine but then don't wear the clobber to say your a player if your a has been, most so called experienced players ain't even scored a goal, gaur enter that out of 50 signings(hate it when folk say there was 200mill worth there today)only a few will try,the rest **** off back to their mansion and av the cheek to say they've just 'done it'!

What baffles me about our style of play is how often we slow things down the moment we win the ball back. If this is Russell Martin's instruction, it's mind-boggling.

When you regain possession, the best move at any level of football is to counter immediately while the opponent is out of position. Dropping the tempo just lets them reset their structure and block the passing lanes.

It doesn't help not having an out and out striker to play into either.

I'm glad. I hope we continue to try to play in that manner and replace the centre backs and pivot in the team with players of that skill set so that we're able to carry out his instructions and coaching properly.

This will be you in the future chap.

I didn't hear any interview after the game, anyone got any idea what he said?  I hope it wasn't "I'm really very happy with that", which is what he's said after every other game

In general he seemed annoyed at some of the sloppiness tbh, he didn't gloss over that and conceded they had too many chances from looseness which was relatively refreshing to hear. He did say he was pleased with Souttar and Okoli mind so...

He also made repeated references to being a "young" team which I think is a bit muddled — in the starting XI he had McCarthy, Thomas, Skipp, Cullen, Burns, Reid, all of whom have played 150+ games (in some cases way, way more) either at this level or, more often than not, above. Real red flag that the squad is about to get padded out with the fabled "experience"

Terrible appointment bearing in mind the state of the club.

Rudkin and Top clueless and out of touch.

They actually believe that they know better than the supporters.

Challinor was the obvious choice,a lower league manager with a great record for promotions. The fans would have gave him

Time to build.

It feels like some people would rather be proven right about a manager failing than actually see the team succeed. Expecting a revamped, young squad to play seamless football from day one is completely unrealistic. Senior football is a massive step up, and tactical cohesion doesn't just happen overnight when we have a few in the lineup, making their first proper appearances.

There’s a massive difference between fair tactical criticism and just dumping non-stop toxicity on young lads who are literally just starting their careers. Backing the team doesn't mean you're blind to the flaws, it just means you're giving a young group the actual runway they need to grow. Up the fans who are actually trying to support.

1. We don't have a young squad, the team is filled with experienced players.

2. The young players in the team (Braybrooke, Alves and Joseph) were the only good players today.

3. The players who let us down today were Souttar (27), Cullen (27), McCarthy (36), Thomas (25), Okoli (25), Skipp (25), Reid (33), Wes Burns (31). These are the players that are rightfully being criticised.

I've just always enjoyed the continental passing style of football. Loved watching Spain during the world cup, loved Barcelona and Man City under Pep. **** me, I even enjoyed watching Leicester a bit under Enzo.

I much prefer being in control of the game and having the ball than seeing it melted long and losing it. Our current predicament is that we're trying to pass it around like the aforementioned teams but with players of the wrong skillset attempting it, and of course, Russell Martin is nowhere near the level of Pep or Enzo either.

We’ve shown far too much patience towards the last 4 or 5 managers. I hope Martin resigns after a few weeks due to his overwhelming unpopularity. But he won’t, because he’s up himself.

Why would the fans give Challinor (who wasn't and still isn't available btw) the time to build, but not our current manager? You've reiterated the point that it's more to do with who the manager is rather than anything else.

I hope that we're successful under Martin and that we get promoted without him having to resign. I also hope that we're able to properly compete in the Championship the following season with (hopefully) new ownership, preferably still under the same manager if he's been successful in getting us promoted. Therein lies the difference though. You've outwardly expressed a desire for us to fail, because Martin is the manager. I want us to be successful despite the fact that he's our manager.

I think people are overreacting, this was never going to be a easy summer, 20 odd players in and out.

Still left with Mavididi, Faes, bad eggs and don't want to be here.

Souttar clear doesn't want to be here.

Thomas and Hamza lost for words.

We are looking at maybe another 3 or 4 out and 2-3 in.

Think we have to give it 10 games, before go mad.

Same as Cooper he was in full support of the recruitment of the club.

The constant chopping and changing of players has left us with no stability.

Our squad was stronger at the start of the transfer window with Carr, Evans, TWB, Page, Hutchinson, Otchere than it is now with Cullen, Chaplin, Burns, Watson, Howell, McCarthy. Not just on ability but it was far more settled and focused.

So you want us to stick rigidly to playing possession football while acknowledging we don't have suitable players for it? We should just plough on regardless and see how that goes? Do you remember what happened with Paulo Sousa?

Good luck with that, confident in your fantasy are you?

Oh I get it. It's just brain-dead, but that figures.

Not really. We don’t want him, he’s no good, he’ll never be successful here, he’ll never be liked and rightly so. Pretty straightforward stuff.

If I’m wrong and he takes us into Europe with exciting attacking football you can gloat all you like.

But what’s really going to happen is: we’ll play depressing football under Martin, he’ll be insufferable and arrogant about it, he’ll be sacked long, long after it’s clear we’re not getting better, we won’t be in the Premier League when it happens and we’ll continue to have our own fans telling us it’s fine and Forest are a one of the biggest clubs in England.

Meanwhile at this point you’ll either be conspicuous by your absence on this forum or pretending you never said all the things you’ve said.

I’ve seen it all before, I’d rather not see it again.

Not great football today but, he Russell wasn't the reason we lost today.

Is Soutter hadn't stood there with his arm up we would have won that game.

Come on. If Notts could hit a fifty foot barn door we'd have lost that by three or four. Playing like that, better teams will murder us.

I just don’t think it was the right appointment as there is no longevity to it. Martin has proven across his entire career that he’s a middle to lower Championship manager. He’ll probably get promotion this season, which in itself is no real achievement.

However, he’ll unlikely get promotion from the Championship and even in the remote possibility he does, he’s totally unfit for the PL.

Why not appoint someone up and coming who could grow with the club and will come in without supporters having preconceived ideas about? Allowing positivity from day 1 and the ability to build a healthy culture.

The ownership are too obsessed with a brand of football that successive appointments (Rogers, Maresca, Martin) have led to failure after failure. Ironically, a completely different style to what saw success.

Ridiculous that he has said that when the younger players like Alves, Braybrooke and Joseph were the better performers. Skipp, Okoli, Soutter and Reid were all shite
