Russell Martin - Confirmed as First Team Manager

We have fans who are still supportive of an owner who's neglected us in every single way possible, destroyed the club and put us to the point of extinction.

I'd say the atmosphere at the start of the Burton game proves we are all still prepared to get behind them. But you need to give us something to get behind. They haven't done that. Patience in terms of support for managers. Martin is the 5th permanent manager since Rodgers and there's calls for him to go after 3 league games. It's not that it's not understandable, but the cycle is becoming more and more tiresome. Yesterday's result was frustrating but not discouraging.

I've definitely seen, and called out, supporters who just moan and don't seem to actually even want us to do well. It's been completely unwarranted in the past. 

 

But I don't think you can blame anyone at the minute. The last 3 games have all been against clubs so inferior to us in resources. Excuses for not beating these teams are just pure gaslighting. Which Martin is very good at. 

 

I'm prepared to give him a chance and I think a lot of supporters are. We're not idiots though, and we are in our lowest ever position in history. There's only so much we can take.

It's not so much about being negative anymore. The club (and I include both the Senior Leadership Team and a lot of those working in the strata under) have cultivated this. They've wedded the club to awful, boring football and made all of their appointments manage the team that way.

 

Your average, match-going fan hates watching this football and has watched it relegate us 3 times over the last 4 years.

 

The club have then bought in the Pope of this football type. 

 

A lot of fans have been mentally broken by this and are voicing it. Blame the staff of Leicester City. Not the people shelling out their readies for this 'entertainment'. 

 

Let's be really honest. If changing your football club was a thing we'd have all jumped shit a year or two back and be watching something interesting by now.

Fair post. Just think given the level of the decline in the last five years, this start to the season was always possible if not likely. It takes time to reverse such a losing culture, but of course time isn’t on Martin’s side with the morale of the fanbase and demand for results.

With respect, we were all well aware of just how bad Martin is and that was before his Rangers stint.

Rangers fans seem to think we don’t know what Martin is about, how his past jobs have went, and his character traits. We’ve been linked with, and most of us hoping we don’t appoint the guy since before Rodgers got sacked.
 

We are fully aware, but now that he’s here what more can we do other than see how it unfolds?

Let's see if we concede more than we score after the transfer window closes. Only then can we say it's not working. Let Martin stand or fall with his signings.

Agree but Martin is hand picking players that he trusts to play his way. Both style and recruitment are linked by Martin and he can't grumble after bringing in a dozen new faces.

Has he positively changed the culture here? Starting to see signs of it on the pitch. Players appear to be happy here, no sulking around. Some bad eggs gone out of the club. Allowing youngsters to flourish. 

 

Obviously nowhere near the finished article and probably tactically loads more room for improvement, but there seems to be some changes for the better already...

I think that's being too generous to him. If you sift a shit out of a punch bowl it starts to taste a bit better.

 

Just removing the majority of the bad apples and finally playing players based on merit, not wages, is enough to lift the dressing room.

 

Let's see if it continues when the remaining bad apples are available for selection again.

I think his analysis tonight was fair, he was pleased but frustrated with the last 30 minutes, and I think it was fair to say some of them were tired.

 

Interesting he said that the club told him they were going to send Will Alves out on loan again and he decided after a week of watching him he wanted him in the squad.

 

His issue has always been the style of football, he seems like a grounded normal guy, players want to play for him, but his style is easy to navigate, look at the first 30 minutes or so tonight, Plymouth were crap and they just set traps waiting for us to mess up. 2nd half at least we went long more frequently. 

 

I am not a Russell Martin guy, but I have found the constant negativity towards everything he does from some quite tiresome and its making me want him to prove us all wrong as hes clearly making some positive changes.
