No surprise to hear it sounds like he's been overpromised and underdelivered. Another day in the life.

I said it in another thread, we are 3 weeks away from another season and don’t have a single recognised striker that isn’t from our youth team. We are done.

There’s a timeline where he rightly gets sacked after Forest, we appoint an out of favour Unai Emery and we’ve just finished our 5th consecutive season playing European Football.

We may have got Emery at the time, but we were a ticking time bomb under Top and Rudkin by that point. Our downfall was inevitable and there's no way we'd still be in Europe now.

I think Rodgers’ Leicester team was arguably as good as the won that won the league. Not sure what went wrong, but pre covid we looked nailed on for a Champions League position. Rodgers isn’t full of shit.

Claude Puel did the groundwork and deserves praise tbf, but Rodgers saw we had the basis of a very good side. I predicted just after Youri joined we' be top 6.

What went wrong was we didnt change things up, it went stale and motivation left the dressing room. We go on about rodgers have a budget to spend but it was peanuts for a team going for CL. Either Rodgers needed to go or squad refresh needed to happen, we did neither which is why we were relegated

Decent interview.

I was just wishing Owen to ask him - "Does the philosophy on behaviour also apply to players off the pitch?" That's been something we've suffered from over the last few years, well since COVID really.

Not really, pretty much stayed at a constant level of turd.

So like us the squad just wasn't good enough the 3 promoted team finished in the same order as they finished the season before.

Personally think he has enough about him to get us promoted from League 1 and possible the championship with the right support.

One thing I agree with him is getting the right characters in - we’ve had so many bad eggs knocking about we don’t need any more - we need 100% from all the players and no d*ckheads so at least he is considering the right characters for the group.

That’s what I took away from the interviews as well.

He does seem like he’s cleaning the club of the bad vibes and credit to him for that, but that’s helped a lot by the departures and the fact the kids are getting a crack.

The “philosophy” clearly doesn’t exist as if it did, Faes wouldn’t have be selected to captain the team in the Bristol Rovers game.

And I said similar in my posts if you read them. I just commented on how arrogant he sounded justifying how he played with Southampton because Spain won the World Cup.

If you want to go into detail, look who Southampton hired after him. Juric is terrible, just because the guy after him was shit doesn’t justify him making mistakes and doubling down on them.

Leeds went up the following season having lost Summerville and Gray and comfortably stayed up. Martin's football requires elite players in comparison to the level they are at which he'll never get the environment he needs at that level to prosper.

If he can get us back up to the Championship and have a go at going up again then we'll gain some respect from me. Until then it's all piss and wind.

Wed have never got Emery because he'd have wanted Monchi with him at the time as a DoF (or a similar capacity). The Chuckle Brothers would have never given Monchi the autonomy he'd have wanted.

Leeds had a two season of pulling together as a team and a squad with the same manager, which helps.

So you are stay possession football can only work with elite players? I think you can do it good players, it about getting the recruitment right for each level, whether that L1, Championship or PL.

He's talk a lot about playing forward, being direct and playing vertically.

I think he is adapting.

No i'm not saying that. Brussell's philosophy isn't merely " possession  football " which can come in many forms, it's possession for possessions sake in areas of the pitch that if you get it wrong then there's a high propensity to conceding dangerous chances that lead to goals.

To play that football you need goalkeepers, defenders and central midfielders that have the highest passing ability and composure there is to minimise the quite reckless risks at times and to what gain? Whilst you can open up the pitch, you can also do so from a better solid base higher up the pitch or from actions and patterns of play that if it doesn't come off it's not disastrous.

I'm over dramatasing this for full effect but you likely get my point.

If Martin can tweak his ideology a little thrn I think him and his teams benefit and more suited to the types of gig he's ever going to get.

If he's interview with RL is to be believed it sounds like he has tweaked his ideology.

Decent listen.

I want him to just stick with these young lads. He’s clearly a capable coach, he’s just a bit up his own arse, hence why none of us wanted him. But he could turn a few of these into superstars.

I think it pretty common in football in general.

Russell Martin as a player is the sort of character we desperately need. So hopefully he can translate that into his transfers!

Did he say anything about the omission of Evans?

He's yet to properly showcase his ability for the first team but i would still have preferred he come on today instead of BDR.

Evans picked up a knock

Interesting.

Out or in?

Hopefully both. Wilder must be pretty confident Souttar is heading there from his interview, Farce only getting 10 mins or so means he’s no longer in any plans, Wilson-Brown will be gone over the next couple of days. Maybe then a free agent striker and CB in. Reckon Nelson starts the season with us and goes towards deadline day.

I think Souttar looked a bit lifeless and sulky tonight, his heads not in it with us, hopefully get a tidy fee as Wilder seems like a pesky ex.
