This is the thing with decisions, you should judge them on the basis of the facts at the time. Nelson's valuation is higher, and Torino tried to low-ball us so the club rightly rejected the bid. Doesn't make it a bad decision. If you crossed the road and someone went through a red light illegally and got hit, would you say that's a bad decision? 1

It does, these sort of decisions is why we had players going for nothing (whilst also paying out rest of contract) because we thought offers were too low. We need to learn how to sell players at a book loss. Crap happens, cut losses and move on.

I'd see your point if wages were an issue but they aren't in Nelson's case. It's no way the same as not selling a player like Thomas where the potential ceiling is so low.

They may still have an internal value on what they think he is worth.

If he's really out for the season then he and we have gotten spectacularly unlucky. Accepting a low ball offer in July when the window doesn't close for ages wouldn't be good business. 3

I mean I agree about not being able to foresee the injury and this being unlucky. But I definitely said the club were daft for not accepting if it was £6 mill straight up. But that’s because I just didn’t agree it was a lowball offer. We don’t know the details obviously so if it was the first and only offer, then I get the whole not accepting the first offer. We also don’t know the make up of the offer. If it was a small amount guaranteed and then add ons that may or may not happen then again, fair enough. But that doesn’t mean we aren’t also still doing the whole unrealistic valuations for our players, blocking moves and seeing them walk for free routine that we have perfected over the years.

We didn't reject £6m from them, so your point is irrelevant...but..if he had of... It just one of those things. Who would have predicted he would have got injured? I consider myself a fairly negative person at times, but christ, theres a whole new level of nonsense to try & slate the club. We might as well just give Alves & Braybrooke away to the first bidder because, you never know, they might get injured. 1

JimJams Posted 4 August Posted 4 August But again, we haven't turned down an offer of £6mill. Seems people saw this: The Foxes in fact have between 6 and 7 million euros, a figure that the Granata are not willing to spend. No offers have yet arrived And have ran with it into a busy motorway.

That’s not how you run a club probably should have taken 10m for fatawu in case he got hurt at the World Cup as well then. Edited 4 August by Lambert09 4

I dont think 6 mill was insulting. (if true the offer was that) 1

A lot of clubs do just get rid of players. We have been quite unusual in how stubborn we have been hanging on to players that either dont want to be here or are squad players at best. This is a huge factor on our financial issues. Edited 4 August by Chrysalis 1

Just that obviously it's early in the window and the club value him higher. We'd obviously all like us to start negotiating a little better than we have historically.
coolhandfox Posted 4 August Posted 4 August Have to factor in the price is also about potential not just his current level.
MPH Posted 4 August Posted 4 August 7 hours ago, Chrysalis said: You dont need hindsight to know players can get injured and clubs might not come back with renewed bids. Do you not see how daft that sounds? 4
LCFCJohn Posted 5 August Posted 5 August 6 hours ago, coolhandfox said: Have to factor in the price is also about potential not just his current level. I guess potential would be also covered by trying to get a sell on percentage though? I just think us posturing to try and get £10 mill is absolutely daft and how we end up losing assets for free. Only 3 players have been sold by a L1 club for £10 mill or more, all by us this summer. BEK, Monga and Fatawu. All attacking players, will get goals and assists which is where the money is, all had PL playing time and with more than 1 year on their contracts. All of a comparable or younger in Monga’s case than Nelson. I rate Nelson but he’s a defender, not played in the PL, a bit injury prone (before this latest one) with a year left on his contract. Add to that he hasn’t had the PL exposure the others above have had, and honestly it’s not like he would have been a nailed on starter in L1 this season even if he had stayed here and injury free. All that taken into account, I can’t believe people think we should be expecting a fee compatible with even Monga’s. 3
sphericalfox Posted 5 August Posted 5 August My grandmother used to say that a half Nelson is better than no Nelson at all.
