I just can’t understand why so many possession managers seem comfortable to aimlessly pass the ball from left wing, right across the defence to the right wing, then back again. I get you want to control the ball but what’s the point if you’re not using that control to wear down your opponent or drag them out of position to create space? 
 

Time and time again we see possession managers happy to play the ball so slowly and ineffectually that the opposition can literally walk left and right tracking us. 
 

We wasted 40 minutes of that first half doing absolutely nothing and we almost went into half time 1-0 down. The only time we looked good was when we played the ball quickly.

It’s a shame we sat on the ball for 40 minutes, we probably didnt need more minutes we just needed to actually attack in the 40+ we wasted!

I get there's a need to conserve energy in one of the only games at this World Cup where the hydration break was actually justified, but that better mean we up the tempo in the latter stages.

Showed last 10 mins there what we can do when we get at them. They're always gonna be dangerous in the final third but they're a bit of a mirror image of ourselves, very top-heavy with a bang average defence that can be got at. 

 

Unsure what to do with Bellingham, he's clearly the best all-round player we've got but the threat of him being suspended in the semi if we make it has me thinking we should hook him for the closing stages and put Rashford or someone in for him.
