The fact Ings is willing to play in league one even for one season suggests he hasn't got much interested from higher clubs and the current level he's playing at. Even if he isn't injured, he's nowhere near the player he was. Jury is out but at least it's only a 1 year deal.

Thing is, even an aging Danny Ings is likely to be astronomically better than what weve had for the past few years, and now in an easier league as well.

I think for one season, this type of signing is a no brainer.  If he stays fit and hungry, he could easily hit 20 goals in a season.

Must just be me because I quite like this signing.  Ings isnt a player to hang around for 5 years and get us up through the leagues again, but he IS a player who could get us out of League One at the first attempt.

I am not saying our fans are entitled but we are literally the only club in league 1 who's fans would be turning their noses up at signing Danny Ings.

It's not about Danny Ings for me. It's about a broken recruitment model and a complete lack of reading the room by the board and Top.

Maybe this is why you're sad.

Or maybe I just have expectations above absolute rock bottom, however bad a place we are in we should be expecting to be able to attract players who can score at least 15-20 goals in league 1 especially when people at the bottom of the league can. That is not unrealistic expectations

I would argue a Danny Ings with no limbs would be better than what we've had for the past couple of years.

When those games include 90 second sub appearances measuring in “games” is pointless, I’m not saying he is the answer to all our issues but to judge anything over the last couple of seasons is meaningless

Just as is people pointing out he’s apparently injury prone when he has only had a 2 week hamstring injury in the last 2 years ruling him out of games is pointless as well

Ok so if he's been fit, and only out for 2 weeks, he's played lots of 10 minute appearance's (worrying).

Danny ings, is not going to come cheap. i think were still digging bigger holes, only saving grace is its one year if correct.

What makes you think he’s expensive aside from name? He is old, barely started in the championship last year and the fact he’s stepping down as others say means there likely wasn’t much of a market for him. If I was betting I’d bet on his wages being on the lower side with maybe a big goal/app bonus.

This does feel a little different to Ayew/Reid as it’s earlier in the window, so doesn’t feel like he’s necessarily been brought in to start but moreso because we are the club in the chain after the one we have been recently, like Wrexham with Coady, and they probably didn’t get the worst deal you’ve ever seen. If anyone overpaid Ings it would’ve been Sheffield United

None of us actually KNOW but it is a fair assumption based on who gave him the contract.

He's scored 20 goals in a season twice in his career. The last time he did that was six years ago. He's 34 in a couple of weeks.

I don't particularly mind this signing if we're bringing in another striker who will play more games than Ings, but I'd be surprised if he started regularly and scored more than 8-10 goals.

He will score less than ayew did last season imo

Or we’re offering him stupid wages….

Whats sad is that Macarron had a chance to show a change of direction,  impact. And first signing out of the blocks is the same old terrible shit. Sack the lot

Of course we will be. We’ll be offering more then anyone else or he wouldnt be coming here. If hes had Championship interest then its likely from small clubs like Lincoln, Charlton etc who wont pay as much.

On a 1 year deal ive got nothing against this providing hes backup to a striker we will be buying. I always liked Danny Ings and comes across as a Pearson type signing.

Sheffield were absolutely torrid last season, it’s definitely alarming that he wasn’t able to get starts there.

They did ok, got to the playoffs but lost out to Tadcaster Albion in the semis.

Remarkably managed to lose 4 more games than us.

Partially agree with you. One or two signings like ings is not a problem as long as they are supplemented by younger hungry players that actually have a sell on value this summer can't be a continuation of the Ayew, Coady old shit pros on long deals

As for reading the room as if the club gives a shit about that nor should they. A player that they and presumably the manager wanted was available on a one year deal they can't not complete because a load of foxestalkers will start moaning.

If you based your views on transfers around big names then yes.

People ‘turning their noses up’ are actually the opposite to entitled as this seems what you are implying. People would rather see a gem we haven’t necessarily heard of, who will be on low wages, be motivated, stay fit etc.

I think Ings is a likeable player, I will give him my backing and support him.

But let’s not pretend the concerns raised over this signing aren’t perfectly valid based on the last few years experience of this clubs transfer business.

Will you still same the same if he spends 75% of the season out injured, gets paid handsomely as we know he will and scores 2 goals all season?

Bit of a silly hypothetical, what would you say if he plays 30 games and scores 13 valuable goals? Also on a one year deal the risk is fairly minimal.

To be fair if there is genuinely another 10 lined up, he's at least grafting! Plenty of chance in those signings to show a change of direction.

He did deal pretty much exclusively in free transfers in Belgium so that might well be coming in handy just now.
