Absolutely, which makes it laughable that we're going to be paying so much for an injury prone washed up has been.

I have no idea how much we'll be paying him and it'd be stupid if we were paying him anything approaching this.

 

I haven't mentioned Danny Ings signing though, I was commenting on Louie Barry, given his high wages and the fee involved could potentially be a reason we didn't sign him and why that could actually be a sensible move rather than anything else.

Fully agreed with this! Barry is perhaps the exception when it comes to salary, as presumably Villa had to pay him a wedge to entice him from Barcelona initially. O'Reilly would potentially be an excellent signing.

Big fan of Barrie and firmly believe he needs to go up with a club from league one and then he’d continue thriving.

Pearson did it. Kevin Phillips being one example. He then became a coach.  It can work and still have youth players in the team. I'm not against it and I bet he has a better attitude then many of the other 'senior' players.

His last decent season was 2020/21. Exactly the kind of signing that got us into this mess.

Our strikers when we signed Kevin Phillips: Jamie Vardy, David Nugent, Gary Taylor-Fletcher, Chris Wood and Tom Hopper (lol) 

 

Our strikers now: Jake Evans.

As an addition alongside some younger players it would be fine. Based on the last few windows, I don’t see us doing that.

He won't be the number 1 striker, he will help breed a winning mentality and set standards to the younger lads.

I see this signing as very similar to when we sign Kevin Phillips. Can’t really find a negative other than the injury record.

Yes that's my point. He's a good striker in league 1 and 2. So ergo a prem bench warmer and former england international should also excel at this level.

Ings reminds me a bit of how Russell used Armstrong at Southampton. Not the most prolific but works hard and links play quite well up top. Quick but not rapid and not a huge physical stature.
 

I think Evans has a similar profile too, so hope Russell gives him a chance. Evans also looks to be a top finisher.

Well the possible signings of Danny Ings and Conor Chaplin are not inspiring much confidence. Both have been good players up to 2/3/4  years ago but scored nothing lately. Could come good in league 1 but a big ask. If a couple of young prospects were signed to complement these two with Evans too, it might change matters.
