Great signing for the position this club are in! Anyone who thinks otherwise, give your self  a reality check where this club is

He's scored 6 goals in 75 games as a striker even as a league 1 club you can expect better than that

A) we're not in a financial position to spend £3.5 million (rumoured) on a single player.

B) he's unlikely to have taken a significant wage reduction to sign for Sheffield Wednesday and was on around 35k per week at Aston Villa. We'd be stupid to commit to signing new players on anything like this salary in our current situation. Whilst he's a promising player, I'm not sure he'll ever be a regular PL level footballer, which you'd probably expect close to given his salary. I'd have actually been more concerned if we had bought him and committed to a long term contract paying him a handsome salary. (Although admittedly it would be more exciting than signing Danny Ings on a 1 year deal.)

Do you think we'll be paying Danny Ings less than this?

C) we're not going to be attracting PL players, no, we're in League One. But there's talented players about, especially in Scandinavia that'd jump at the opportunity to sign for a club of our size, with the increased exposure it'd give their career, with a wage increase, that'd both cost less to buy and on a smaller salary than Louie Barry.

Absolutely, which makes it laughable that we're going to be paying so much for an injury prone washed up has been.

Tbh a market we should be targeting is players at Premier League clubs, that have either been out on loan or been plying their trade in PL2.

You see many League 1 clubs targeting that market, no surprise to see a club like Sheff Wed on the verge of signing Barry.

We need to be targeting a bunch of players who come in a similar bracket, either available for loan or would come under £1 million, Tommi O’Reilly who is also at Villa for example.

His record over the last few seasons is completely irrelevant. If he is fit and still has ability, then he'll be ok as one of our strikers. Jack Marriott had a poor record in the last few years and bagged 16 in 25 for Reading.

It really isnt he record over the last couple of seasons it literally the most relevant peice of information. You can't sign someone who has been awful just because they were good more than 5 years ago and then just completely write of there last 5 years as irrelevant thats idiotic

Rotherham who finished 2nd bottum of league 1 last year had someone who scored 12 in one season last year twice what ings has scored in the last 3 we absolutely can expect better

I’m praying his contract is largely appearance fee/goal bonus based, but we know it won’t be

If he scores 3 goals this season he automatically gets another 3 year contract extension.

I want to be positive about this and look at it as an experienced striker on a short term deal who can be relied on, help the younger players and improve the culture at the club but I've made that mistake with so many similar players that we've signed in the last few years.

The massive part is if he stays fit. If he stays fit then could be brilliant for us but that's a big IF with his injury record.

If it's a pay as you play deal then fine, I'm all for it. A fit, in form, Ings will tear up League 1.

Completely fine and logical signing and great experience to pass down to the younger lads.

Me when we signed Conor Coady
