Great signing for the position this club are in! Anyone who thinks otherwise, give your self  a reality check where this club is

Surely even us can do better than a non scoring injury prone 33 year old. What makes him a great signing?

I do agree, we need players who will play 40 + games a season, we wouldn't have gone down last season had we had a squad that could stay injury free

McGoldrick himself was available on a free

Looking at his record lately even if it's a 1 year is not what I want to see.

I recognize we are in league 1 but if that's the case I would rather we use younger fit players who might show promise. It might help with a future big sell to fund us.

Getting out of league 1 will require consistency and if this guy can't stay fit it is a waste of space and our season. He doesn't even score, you might as well have just kept Daka at least he is fit lol.

That said, it is what it is and I hope to be proven VERY wrong.

Yeah cos that schedule is incorrect.

Here’s an article from his time at West Ham stating he’s got an injury and out for a few weeks

https://www.theguardian.com/football/2023/jan/23/danny-ings-injures-knee-west-ham-debut-weeks-out#:~:text=West Ham will have to,during the game's dying stages.

here’s another a year later

https://www.planetsport.com/soccer/news/wolves-target-danny-ings-miserable-spell-at-injury-hit-west-ham-could-continue

Heres an interview of him at Sheffield United what mentions an injury when he shortly joined

https://www.thestar.co.uk/sport/football/sheffield-united/sheffield-united-danny-ings-apology-tough-road-west-ham-united-transfer-move-5437145

The first link the injury is actually on my screenshot although the time out is wrong, the second link is not discussing him being injured, it’s saying he can’t go on loan to wolves because of injuries to others, he was actually injury free then

I’ll give you the 3rd link, he missed 2 games with a hamstring injury

Can’t believe he’s only 33 tbh

I do hate the “he will be good for league 1” takes though, because it’s not about ability it’s about how age affects his game. So unless you’ve been watching him recently, you really can’t say that.

I have no idea what condition he is in these days and tbh our club probably don’t know either

Fact is if Sheffield Wednesday had signed him on a free one year deal, we would be very envious.

It's a good signing at the end of the day

Well as it's nearly 1pm I'm hoping I'll see it differently in the next eleven hours or so.

Not a chance. If they signed Ings I would immediately discount them as a threat.

We've signed Ings and they've signed Louie Barry ffs.

Fact is, in reality, I’m very envious of Sheffield Wednesday right now because they’ve signed a sure fire hit in Louie Barry.

Ehhh, a fit Danny Ings still shits this league all day. And not in a wishful thinking way like Ayew in the Championship. 😅 Keeping him fit is the challenge, I'm pretty sure our physios breathe pure asbestos at this point. If we get 20 games out of him that's exceeding expectations given his recent history.

One year deal does show we're finally learning something. Did someone lock Rudkin in a cupboard while they were drafting it? As long as he's not on daft money we can do worse in our current striker-less state.

What's Louis Barry's scoring record like?

Also, I doubt Ings will be our only striker option.

I'd also argue that whilst Louie Barry is obviously a talented lad, if he was THAT good he probably wouldn't be signing for a League One team on a permanent deal

We needed a Jay Stansfield type signing like what Birmingham did when they came straight back up with energy and pressing from the front. But of course we cop out and go down the experienced pro route who can no longer do neither.

What do you mean by this?

We are a league 1 team and we should be targetting players that will come here and make a difference at this level.

We're not going to be attracting Premier League players are we?

We won't spend £15 million (rising to £20 million)  on our entire summer overhaul nevermind on a single player as we're not in a position to.

12 months isn't bad.

He instantly becomes the senior striker and takes the heat off our young players.

He can help those said youngsters develop on the training pitch with those little movements to gain half a yard, find a bit of space or put the defender's weight onto their wrong foot.

On the face of it, it looks a bit like the Ayew signing. But Ings has been a goalscorer and at this level should be decent, as well as helping our younger players like Otchere, Evans and Hutchinson along.

A) we're not in a financial position to spend £3.5 million (rumoured) on a single player.

B) he's unlikely to have taken a significant wage reduction to sign for Sheffield Wednesday and was on around 35k per week at Aston Villa. We'd be stupid to commit to signing new players on anything like this salary in our current situation. Whilst he's a promising player, I'm not sure he'll ever be a regular PL level footballer, which you'd probably expect close to given his salary. I'd have actually been more concerned if we had bought him and committed to a long term contract paying him a handsome salary. (Although admittedly it would be more exciting than signing Danny Ings on a 1 year deal.)

C) we're not going to be attracting PL players, no, we're in League One. But there's talented players about, especially in Scandinavia that'd jump at the opportunity to sign for a club of our size, with the increased exposure it'd give their career, with a wage increase, that'd both cost less to buy and on a smaller salary than Louie Barry.

Experienced players coming into a good dressing room = Use their experience to drive the squad forwards.

Experienced players coming into a shit dressing room = Retirement home.

Anyone coming into a culture can influence it positively or negatively.

A culture isn’t set in stone.
