How are we favourites to win the League?

Agree. Quite a lot of people do a multiple league winners accumulator and Leicester would be the obvious choice.

Because this league is utterly garbage. We are an absolute shambles under Top and his clowns but id be genuinely amazed if we dont walk this league. The gap from league 1 to championship is huge. Burns and Chaplin should destroy this league and the likes of Braybrooke, Alves, Aluko are more than good enough for this league. Even Luke Thomas might look remotely competent at this level.

Martin wasn’t my first choice either, but I like what he’s trying to do. He’s got a vision and seems to be bringing the right mindset into the club. After years of toxicity, it’s the first time in ages I’m actually excited to see what happens.
The “he’s over 30 and getting a 3-year deal” stuff is nonsense too. We need a mix of experience and the young lads we’ve got.
We’re not going to win every game, but this feels like a proper reset, which is needed!

If you mean in a squad building sense, there's a fairly decent chance that's McCarron not Martin.

Our owner believes we are a small club. Many of us disagree but while he is here...

 

I'm not miserable and I am just putting out a genuine opinion. We (the club) are in a miserable place. That's not because of me.

Fair point, but you need the manager to push this aswell. My mate is very good friends with JV and he’s mentioned the positive change in the club. If it RM or McCarron it doesn’t really matter, we just need to be behind the club.

Yes, I said in the other thread that the lack of an actual striker is the issue. We depended on Fryatt as he got us 30+. We will need goals from other areas but I think we should have that.

He said that in a recent interview. Not that I agree of course. We were winning trophies, and playing in Europe, 5-10 years ago and people still acted like we were lucky to be there and that "we were in League One once". Now threads like this and the season hasn't even started. Totally different to how another fanbase would have acted.

 

Of course it's not your fault, or any of ours, that we are in the third tier again but the constant negativity is just boring. First game of the season is always good to look forward to regardless of what's happened the season before. Even if we batter County by 3 goals I know the same people will be coming out with excuses of how we didn't deserve it.

I'm not so sure about the 'gaping holes' - show me a L1 side with a stronger first XI than us.  And, position for position, show me a L1 team that has as good quality as us in depth.

 

As for the demotivated players - Faes has hardly been near the team, hamza has looked energetic and locked in, even Mavididi, though, for me, the weakest link, has still seemed to work harder this year than last (even if that is to get a move) - from what we've seen on SoMe, from Martin, the players, the mood seems very different to previous seasons.  The worst offenders have gone.  And I feel that if these so-called 'has-beens' slack off for even a minute,  Martin will have them out the squad without hesitation.

But we'll only do it with a ruthless attitude - if we're arrogant / complacent, we'll get beaten up and quickly become just another League One team.

We won the Premier League 10 years ago, y'know.  League One should be a walk in the park.

 

Realistically though, it's because we're a massive club with a recognisable name. 

 

On paper we're a big fish in a small pond and the bookies are a profitable business and there will be lots of casual punters chucking a tenner on us as they think it'll be easy money.  Bookies limiting their loss, that's all.

I agree, and maybe it wasn’t clear what I meant.

 

I mean arrogance as in thinking the game is won on paper, that we just have to show up. We might be the biggest club and have the best squad but we still have to respect the league in that we have to turn up and play and show we are the best on the pitch.

 

That’s what I mean when I say what could be our downfall. The ‘we’ll be fine’ attitude.

 

I agree that people who call us little old Leicester and belittle our achievements are irritating. The whole back where we belong crap.

if we score three goals against County then we will justifiably be favourites for the league. Scoring a lot more than the opposition or just scoring the needed goal has been our weakness for a while

We could absolutely walk this league if we end up with a few prolific scorers in the side, we just don’t know yet. We could already have those players in the squad, or we might not.

 

I’d like us to sign a few players on permanent contracts with the potential to do well but on lower wages/fees because they’re not proven yet, one of them does a decent job and then kicks on (or is sold for profit and wheel keeps turning). We need goals to win games and we need to turn profit on players to no go bankrupt/stick to rules with potential to penalise us.

The club is in turmoil ... Top has no interest.... never has to be honest ... Rudkin is a total disaster.. his business sense is that of a 5 year old a manager whose track record does not shoutconfidence.... the club is up for sale ....  we will do well to keep in the top 6... in summary  shambolic is about where we are

A lot depends how Martin can get us playing as a team as we haven’t played as a team very much in a while. Alongside that he needs to be skilled at separating the football from the off the field circus at this club. We’ve brought in some decent players, could do with some good defenders and another striker who has proven to bang in a few goals, I’m not convinced the Bosnian will cut it looking at his record.

I think the super computer has predicted us 4th with 8% chance of winning the title and 15% chance of automatic promotion. Maybe not such a walk in the park after all. :-/
