That’s the best analogy for how I (and many others) are seeing it.

 

It actually feels that we have a very good squad for the level we are playing at unlike the past couple of years. It really does feel that the manager is holding us back in this case. Yes, as Leicester City in the third tier, we will have more of the ball and be expected to find a way through the opposition. I get that and the argument was made a couple of years ago with Maresca. But there are different ways to be successful, whilst having more of the ball. We can hardly make a case for Martin ball being successful in breaking opponents down can we?

That non red card was silly and probably would have changed the outcome, but we can't say we deserved any luck today. Worst bit about a result like that is whilst Oxford played a few really nice bits of football, that had to do next to nothing for that scoreline because we made it so easy for them. Wasn't even like loads of our players had absolute stinkers, they just wilted under the pressure, totally lost their heads (the turnovers from Kick off being prime example of that) and ultimately, were failed by their manager. Oxford kept a good shape and that was all they needed to do. We were only ever going to be able to score a bear perfect goal because there was absolutely no plan to rotate players or create space. Never seen such a case of Plan A only, as today.

It takes a special skill to be absolutely abysmal in three different divisions. The youngsters were totally off it today but, my God, the experienced players were an utter disgrace.

 

A horrible day to add to the litany in the past two years.

Oxford scored, didn’t shut up shop, they pushed for a second, third and fourth. Played as a team and defended to a man.

Saying the first goal should have resulted in a sending off is sour grapes.  Don’t blame the ref for this loss, Leicester were awful, deserved to lose, they were wank.

You could add Wycombe under Taylor to that in terms of the damage it did, but yes, I think there's a fair argument to say this is the worst result in our entire history.

Yes it was and it could have been worse. It was a disgraceful performance. After the last few games I thought we had turned the corner after some promising performances but today it looked like we had reverted back to our old ways. The difference in styles was glaring. Oxford moved the ball quickly on the counter, they fought for every ball, harried and chased and we had no answer. Meanwhile we took so long to move the ball anywhere it gave  them plenty of time to get back and organised into a tightly packed defence. We struggled in defence to contain them. We allowed them plenty of space. Souttar and Thomas were slow and absolutely confused, they didn't know what to do when in possession so we had the usual to you to me interpassing. If I never see them again it will be too soon. 

If I was RM I would show them through that match and not focus on what we did wrong but rather look at Oxford and the way they played the match for they were everything we were not. Hopefully this should be a day of reckoning and a turning point. If RM continues with his passion for slow possession based football he deserves to go since opposing teams will pack their defence whilst we dither and hit us on the break against a defence with more holes in it than a lace tablecloth.

I’ve had time to calm down. My thoughts:

 

1) we didn’t lose to poor passing at the back etc. none of our goals were from that scenario which surprised me. 
 

2) Paige and Braybrook were really poor 

 

3) Oxford had so much more pace out wide than us and it cost us 

 

4) Dropping Howell after scoring is harsh. His replacement Burns was awful. Dropping the number 9 was harsh as I thought he was really effective at linking play. The new lad was ok. Made 1 chance. But was constantly on his heels. 
 

 

5) once again the subs made no sense. Subs within minutes of each other tells me RM was being totally reactive. He got schooled by Ramsey. 

 

let’s call a spade a spade. We don’t get promoted this year.

To be fair the Birmingham game was down to footwear on a frozen pitch, but yes still very painful at the time.

This result has really spoiled my early Sunday morning breakfast. This forum gives me a feel for the general atmosphere around the club from 12000 miles away . Before I came to AUS in my early 20,s I was one of Leicesters most dedicated supporters . In 1969 I just about managed every game home and away. And yes I am an ancient 79 year old. If the manager is sacked there will be nobody decent with any league experience that would come within half a mile of the club . Seriously the club could not do any worse than appoint a local Sunday league manager. When I heard the club had got into financial bed with our best rip off merchant the Macquarie bank then I reckon we need to be very afraid.
