What is our “WORST RESULT” ever?

That Spurs game where we were deep into stoppage time, 2-1 up and Kasper was taking a free kick.

I was bursting for a pee but hung on to watch him launch the ball upfield and the ref then blow his whistle.

Fuming that they had been able to equalise, I stormed off to the loo.

Mrs. FFF shouted me to say they (she didn't know who we were playing) had scored. I chewed her ear off by retorting back, I'm not thick, I've just bloody saw it you know! She replied, no, another one.

I shear disbelief and anger I watched the replay thinking she must be mistaken.

I then threw the remote onto the sofa with such force, it bounced up and hit the wall, leaving a chip in the plaster.

I was then ordered by Mrs. FFF to retrieve from under the sofa, the AA batteries which were jettisoned from the remote during impact and rolled out of reach.

 

Not my finest hour.

I launched something at my couch and made a hole in it after we lost to Villa in the league cup semi. When the wife asked me about it, I blamed the dog 😂

Some people will call Spurs "bottle jobs" and yet we've surrendered so many leads against them to lose.

 

League cup final with an extra man to lose 1-0 in 1999.

Winning at their ground in 2019 to lose 5-4.

2-1 up and lose 4-2 at home in 2021

2-1 up and lose 3-2 in the last minute in 2022.

 

There's probably a few more im forgetting.

It's not purely a question of recency bias though, is it? There are just different ways to assess it.

 

On a numerical basis, on something close to how much of an 'upset' it was, a more abstract feeling or a combination of the above.

 

Saturday is literally our worst statistical loss in the league in the sense that it is our biggest numerical loss in the lowest division we've been in and whilst the club is in arguably one of the most precarious positions of it's existence.

 

You've mentioned the loss to Wycombe and the fact that that started a collapse into league 1, but then how is a 4-0 pasting at home after that sort of long systemic collapse not worse then the one at the beginning? For what it's worth I remember the Wycombe loss very well. I remember seeing the scoreline on ceefax as a kid and the video footage after on BBC Full Time. I'm not convinced people will remember the Oxford loss so much, but it's a bit contrarian to be suggesting the inclusion of Oxford is not even close.

In terms of -worst- feeling, it has to be the 2022 game at home vs Spurs when Bergwijn scored 2 in stoppage time. Worst in terms of, indicative of where we are, that's certainly going to happen this season, so I'll vote Oxford but I'm sure there will be worse.

Contextually any loss to a team in a division lower than us or by more than 4 goals, is worse and there have been plenty of those.

 

From that perspective, and that's the one I'm taking, not even ball park.

It’s the recent Oxford 4-0 hammering. Losing 4-0 at League One to a team like Oxford is a totally humiliating experience. At home too.

 

Losing to a premier team is bad, but the standards cushion the humiliation. Getting demolished by a fairly mediocre team at League One level is a new level of shite.

The Wycombe game for me. We were a top level team, well up the table, playing a lower tier team, at home, in the latter stages of the FA Cup, in which we’d had no recent success…..gutted at that loss!
