That was him fully showing that he'd rather treat the rest of a competitive game as a training match than adapt anything and throw the kitchen sink at them.

 

I don't think there's another manager in the world that doesn't throw the kitchen sink at them there, probably not even Brendan, so we've managed to find the one manager more stubborn than him.

Can't even win against a very poor 10 man Barnsley. You just can't envisage any improvement under this fraud of a manager. He's Sunday league level.

Although I am very disappointed  I actually think we played pretty well. But no excuses we should have had  a hat full goals and put our goal difference right.

I don’t know what to make of that; and that’s three whole hours after the game.

 

We played some absolutely cracking stuff at times, the pass and move was excellent and we created numerous guilt edged chances; on another day we’re out of sight before the red card even.

 

But then we muck it up for ourselves via a sloppy bit of play on the halfway line; which you can get away with if you’ve taken your chances.

 

There are still things to work on - our set pieces were poor today, Watson still needs coaching on his runs (he drifts in too early, closing his and others space) and there needs to be a bit more recognition of when to clear lines rather than play someone else into trouble.

 

But in all in all - there’s plenty of positives in the performance at least, if you’re willing to view things that way.

 

Also - credit to Barnsley - they hung in there, continued to press with 10 in the first half and stood tall to secure a hard earned point at the end.

I know warm up isn't training. But our players always arrive after the opposition. Today we only had 3 players practising shots (Riis, Alves and Cullen). When we spend most of our time around the opponents box, you would think you want more tuning up their shooting pre match.

Faes coming back in is a big mistake. He did everything to leave and just let him rot

This comes up a few times and i actually take issue with it. I think in terms fitness, the players put a shift in. Too much of a shift in fact.

 

If you look at the Stats today you can see the issue. 84% possession in the 2nd half. 675 passes to their 165. The 2 CB's 226 touches between them.

 

To get the ball out of our 3rd we have to play about 6 intricate pin point perfect passes with each player moving into space as they are being pressed by the opposition, and then if we cant get out of the 3rd the ball is either lost or back to the Goalkeeper. The system is absolutely exhausting to the players both physically and mentally. The opposition barely have to do anything, as we are playing for them as well. They have to intermittently press (and often not that hard) and wait for us to overplay ourselves into danger.

 

I genuinely dont know how they do it.  When it goes wrong (Oxford, 2nd Half Stockport) is completely draining. The system completely works against the players and is so easy to play against. Its not because they are unfit, its because they are being worked 4 times harder than the opposition.

 

Also, Luke wasnt a problem today. I dont like Faes being back but he is better than Souttar. Although i want our main CB pairing to be O'Hara and the Finnish dude moving forward.

Maybe, but we were arguably playing for them. Down to 10 and we continue to play in exactly the same way, pretending we are trying to break down a team of 11. If we had actually attacked them i think they would have crumbled, but RM has us doing the building blocks out of the back and letting them get into a deep block easily when they needed to.

 

We literally deal their card for them. The manager is atrocious.

Don’t think it’s unrealistic to suggest quite literally any other manager with some experience of the level would have us better placed. 
 

Just someone that knows how to set a team up to play to its strengths and not over complicate things.

These other days never happen. 

 

Tell me the last time we went on a run of 2 victories in a row. Or 3. Same for Russell Martin.

 

There is fundamental issue with that sort of attitude.

The margin is fine that’s for sure

 

having time to calm down and reflect on the match, it wasn’t the greatest but equally wasn’t the worst

 

the attack when it goes well is beautiful, if Alves finishes that volley and Cullen nets his second on that 1 on 1, then we cruise the win today

individual moments like that can’t be on the manager 

But even though the attack looks nice when it happens, the over all play isn’t great to watch, and it’s too edge of your seat not in a good way, the players also noticeably don’t look comfortable with this style of playing from the back waiting for them to press and hit on the counter, the counter part is fine but this faffing around is just too uncomfortable
