Bought myself a Kindle recently, I’m assuming the book subscription service they have for it is worth taking out?

If you havent heard... BorrowBox is an app linked to your local library. Highly recomend it. I always check BB before buying/renting.

I haven’t got that but I really should considering how much I read. It definitely seems like good value, but kindle books are pretty cheap anyway.

I subscribe to Kindle Unlimited and I think I get good value out of it, just be aware that not everything is available through it, especially not new releases. That's where they get you, you're 3 books in to a 4 book series and then have to buy the latest one, or wait for it to come available on unlimited. But as someone else said they're fairly cheap anyway.

Looked into this and you have to have a full library card. Which I don't.

Just pop in to your local library..it litterally takes 5 minutes to get a card... Once youve signed up you have access to tens of thousands of Ebooks and audio books all for free, just click and the book is in your hand wherreever you are...and it supports your local library for the future readers :)

Since we were debating 'melting pots' on another thread...

This is superb. Probably the fairest and most balanced book on the Balkans I've read, and a great level of detail.

Not yet. Heard it's been a bit controversial but generally I think that aspect of WW2 deserves more attention.

It's a very hard watch, some pretty sadistic depictions of how the Croats treated the Serbs, but things like this should be seen to show the lengths of depravity human nature will go, and why a melting pot can be dangerous

Can anyone recommend a book series similar to something like the Luther tv show? Just fancy trying something different

Read some Sherlock Holmes novels/stories.

Lots of them are quite short so you can get through plenty quite quickly and decide if you like them.

Each of the collections (shorts and novels) are less than £15 on Amazon.

The Jo Nesbo Harry Hole series is amazing. Not quite like Luther but he is a detective.

The books by James Patterson or Peter James are pretty much Luther and there's loads of them.

Easy reading but fills the gaps between 'proper' books.

Not a series and not similar to Luther really, but if you like true crime In Cold Blood by Truman Capote is probably the best in that genre I've ever read. A real page turner.

The Alex Delaware series by Jonathan Kellerman is very good. First book is 'When The Bough Breaks'.

I quite liked the Mark Billingham books as a casual read. First one in the series is called Sleepy head

I think I’ve mentioned it before but the best fiction book I have ever read is Don Winslow The Power Of The Dog. Absolutely incredible.

Amazing book that.  I then read the Force and wondered how the same author had produced such drivel.  Haven't gone back to him since but maybe I should try another.
