davieG Posted 23 September 2006 Author Posted 23 September 2006 From the Mockery. Multi-millionaire businessman Milan Mandaric has refused to rule out a move to buy Leicester City - but said his immediate priority was to enjoy "an emotional separation" from Portsmouth. The Serb-American businessman was linked with a bid for City earlier in the season. Speculation has resurfaced in the last two days after Mandaric announced his decision to step down as Pompey's non-executive chairman after their home game against Bolton on Monday. However, Mandaric, who has also been linked with a number of other clubs including Wolves, told the Leicester Mercury that he was not planning an immediate move for City, before adding he would never say never. "I wouldn't say that I am not interested," said Mandaric. "But I wouldn't pursue anything like that at all right now. In the future, you never know. "At the moment I would like to enjoy my emotional separation with the football club where I have spent seven-and-a-half years. I would like to be left alone to enjoy my time and separation, and maybe look to another club at a later date." Mandaric bought Portsmouth out of administration seven years ago and propelled them into the Premiership within four years. He goes into his final weekend as chairman with Pompey top of the Premiership table. He told the Mercury that he wanted to remain in English football and that the idea of steering another club into the Premiership was appealing. "I love English football," he said. "I have tremendous respect for it. "I enjoy it and had a tremendous time at Portsmouth. When I am ready I would like to look at other possibilities. "If I was going to go and look at a later date, it would be somewhere challenging." Asked if that meant a club in the Championship, Mandaric replied: "If and when I am ready that's where I would look to, most likely." City chief executive Tim Davies said Mandaric had not contacted the club. He added: "We are always looking for investors into the club. "If any approach was made this would always be subject to the approval of the shareholders and would have to be in the best interests of Leicester City Football Club."
Stevosevic Posted 23 September 2006 Posted 23 September 2006 Good news that he is considering us. I just hope the board are not selfish and reject an approach. I am not sure what part the Foxes Trust would play in a possible take-over but i also hope they are not against it either.
ThurmastonFox Posted 23 September 2006 Posted 23 September 2006 If any approach was made this would always be subject to the approval of the shareholders and would have to be in the best interests of Leicester City Football Club." Hmm, since our administration, I didn't think that we had any shareholders. *wanders off into the realms of past days, buying a single share in LCFC from a bloke in Leicester market to ensure that Pierpoint didn't get his mits on the club.....*
lildave3 Posted 23 September 2006 Posted 23 September 2006 I think if anything does happen, it won't happen until the summer.
lcfc_jme Posted 23 September 2006 Posted 23 September 2006 Can't actually see anything happening ever tbh. He'll leave Portsmouth and then he'll disappear for a bit, but I don't think he'll come for our club - more likely a club in the middle of the table with an average financial situation.

lcfc_jme Posted 23 September 2006 Posted 23 September 2006 But they (Portsmouth) were in administration when he bought them out so who knows? Yeah I guess so... I just think that he'd rather not take the risk this time but still have the chance to propell another club towards the big time. Still, he's not said no, I personally just think it's highly unlikely he'd come here that's all. We'll have to wait and see..
mellowyellow Posted 23 September 2006 Posted 23 September 2006 Anybody else remember he took Pierrepoint to Pompey as a consultant ? I know we're desperate but ...........
ceebeefox Posted 23 September 2006 Posted 23 September 2006 Anybody else remember he took Pierrepoint to Pompey as a consultant ? I know we're desperate but ........... Let's be honest here Pierrepoint was by all accounts a horrible man , but he raised an awful lot of money and started the merchadise revolution at our club before a lot of clubs had one. The fact is it became a choice MON or Pierrepoint, Martin hated him so we all did.
Lineker's Left Foot Posted 23 September 2006 Posted 23 September 2006 As I have said again, Mandaric has to come in to stop this club dying !! To progress we need money to build a talented squad, with some good players that can help our youngsters that have come through !!

For every success story where someone has come in and taken a football club over and turned it around there are three horror stories. So we have to be very careful what we wish for. Suffice to say that if Mandaric, or anyone else, bids to take ownership of our club we would do our utmost to ensure it is one that will take the club forward and in full consultation with our members

Ultra Posted 24 September 2006 Posted 24 September 2006 As I have said again, Mandaric has to come in to stop this club dying !! Oh FFS, if Mandaric really IS our only hope we may as well give up now! Or do you really want a paedo to run our team? After all, that's what Mandaric tried at Pompey!

After all, that's what Mandaric tried at Pompey! At the moment Mandaric probably is our only hope. We need better players and we need money to get them, money we haven't got. Simple fact!

After all, that's what Mandaric tried at Pompey! How do you mean Mandaric a paedo, HE IS our only option at the moment OR do you fancy near bottom Championship mediocrity ??? Our club is too good for that. The days of having a 'fan-run' club that is successful - and that is what our board are, long time fans with no ambition to use money to invest in players - are long gone. Birch admitted last week on the 'moan in' that WE need outside investment to progress. However, the emphasis upon playing younger academy grown players in the team is well supported by myself !! We just need extra investment, probably somebody like Jason Koumas into our midfield.
Daggers Posted 24 September 2006 Posted 24 September 2006 For every success story where someone has come in and taken a football club over and turned it around there are three horror stories. I think it is the other way around, if we look at the last five years.

And don't harp on about our past, we have a great past but us Leicester fans moan about Forest fans living in the past about there Europe wins, well we're offenders of this oursleves living in the past of MON, Leicester is a great club this is obviously what we all think as we are LCFC fans...A great team is a different story. We're only as good as our last game and NO club is too good to fail, get relegated, lose.
Ajax Treesdown Posted 24 September 2006 Posted 24 September 2006 Without someone like Mandaric this club is heading one way......down. Please buy the club. We are worse than ever now!!!

Anybody is capable of beating anybody if tactics are sound and correct for the game, if the players all give 100% each and a team can SCORE GOALS. We have players that are capable of doing this, so it just makes me wonder what goes on during the week at training leading up to a game with the management team and the players. Clearly something is seriously wrong, and things will not improve for us (even with an investor like Milan Mandaric) if these things cannot be rectified.
Chrysalis Posted 24 September 2006 Posted 24 September 2006 tim davies reply sums up what the board are thinking looking for investors, he sees mandaric as an investor rather then a buyer, if mandaric was to com ehere he would want full control not some seat on the board with 250k worth of shares. Are the FT and the board willing to sacrifice their control for th efuture of the club thats the question.

Aren't we after someone to invest in the club, rather than just buy it? And have you only just started supporting Leicester? Since without the current mob putting their hands in their pockets, there would have been no future for the club.

IF there is someone out there who has the finances and acumen to take City forward in the short, medium and long term AND has the best interests of City fans at heart then great. We certainly would not be against it. But for every success story where someone has come in and taken a football club over and turned it around there are three horror stories. The blokes a dick head but im afraid his track record speaks for itself RE taking clubs forward. He's done it in this country, Beligum and America.

We are in the middle of the horror story right now! With the current set-up there will be no happy ending. When will the investors/directors start to question the non-playing management of the club? When will the trust start to question it? This isn't just about money to buy players, it's about the incompetance from the top. Other clubs with less money are performing. The people running the club simply aren't good enough, whatever they are paying themselves.
