This is really dull stuff. You need a fair battle between bat and ball for a good game of cricket.

Worst day of the season so far for us. Team in the bottom 2 looking like they will bat for 2 whole days, leaving us to try to bat the remaining 2 days to salvage a draw.

Don't disagree, but there's a fairly big caveat in that they're a massively underperforming team in the bottom two facing a pudding of a cricket ball.

As expected, second string bowling attack means a long day in the field. With this ball, if we make runs I guess draw isn’t too bad but we have a lot of work to do before we can talk about that. I said it at the beginning of the day and said this could derail our season, I hope not.

This thread is getting as bad as the match day ones for knee jerk reactions. Yes, a much weakened bowling attack, but look at the other scores with the Kookaburra from day one both today and last week. We’re in a very similar position to the Glamorgan game after day one. It’s unlikely we’ll have as good a day two, but still

plenty of time.

Our probably 9th/10th best bowler in Walker goes for 17 in his first two overs but comes back and plays a crucial role. It kind of sums up the grittiness shown again. The drop of Geddes might cost us (if it was a drop) but otherwise there wasn’t much wrong.

Has anyone seen any replays of the Hanscomb catch to get rid of Du Plooy? The stream missed it.

Who's idea was it to combine the kookaburra and a day of free county cricket?

Andrew Strauss, well it was his idea to have 4 rounds of CC games with the different ball.

You look around at all the other first innings scores and at one time most first innings scores were 170ish with only 1 or 2 wickets down, barring Lancs but even then they managed to recover well and post a decent enough total.

Great to hear Dermot Reeve on comms yesterday nice to see him back on his feet

Interesting guy. For good and bad. One of a kind, actually got something to say.

These games in a really dull manner play into Leicestershires hands. Other teams will have to get results to overtake us and that's highly unlikely in these surfaces, in this weather and that ball!

Shake hands on a draw now, its incoming.

Assume the kookaburra ball is to attempt to help preparations for playing down under?

Would be helpful if any of the test players were using it lol

Just a ridiculous idea

These kukaburra balls are making for some big first innings scores.

Isn't it because the seam is much flatter, meaning much less movement off the seam itself ?

Fantastic report on yesterday’s play at Grace Road from George Dobell. And his view on the Kookaburra ball: “It may even be the worst thing to happen to bowlers since bats were invented.”

Still only one team batting in reply across the matches. The Kookaburra idea has been a disaster.

There is some logic in the concept of English players needing exposure to it given how poorly we usually play in away Ashes series.

However in terms of execution what does dropping it in for two games a season accomplish?

Are our bowlers bowling faster or our spinners more canny? Are our batters benefiting from the challenge? Oh no wait it's just a run fest everywhere.

I've no idea what a better solution is mind, one of each ball from each end all season? (This is a joke not a suggestion ECB if you're reading...).

Maybe using it for home tests would make more sense, or even for a series of Lions games with players seen as having potential to benefit being picked. Although maybe the current solution is all part of the plan and as it stands Roman Walker has put himself in the frame for the Ashes.

Four this year. Two away games for us in July.
