Stevosevic Posted 14 June 2007 Posted 14 June 2007 McLeod update - http://www.mk-news.co.uk/mknews-sport-mkdo...e.asp?ID=104169 MK Dons star striker Izale McLeod can leave for £2 million. It is understood the club have already turned down offers that fail to match the asking price. £2m please: Asking price for striker IzaleThe 22-year-old was added to the transfer list on Monday after turning down a new deal at the Dons which would have made him the clubs highest earner. For the past two years McLeod has been consistently linked to a move elsewhere and with the team failing to get promotion under Martin Allen are resigned to another season in League Two. The England Under-21 forward has decided a move will enhance his international prospects. Several clubs have expressed interest in the past and former Dons boss Allen is believed to have made a £1.3m bid to take McLeod to Leicester last week. This was refused by the Dons. Yesterday, it was reported Premiership side Bolton Wanderers were also considering swooping for McLeod, who's form has attracted attention from other top-tier clubs including Man City. It is believed Wanderers boss Sammy Lee may be ready to take a gamble on the striker. A source close to the Dons told MK NEWS that there have been several clubs showing interest in McLeod, but all have come-up short with their offers and the club are not willing to settle for less the £2m. Last year Peterborough and Wolves failed in their £1m bids and another dazzling season in front of goal saw him finish as the League's top scorer with 24 goals, which also earned him the League Two Player Of The Year accolade. Dons Chairman Pete Winkelman said: "Everyone knows, it is the club's policy not to hinder any player's opportunity to progress. "This thereby ensures that we maintain a squad that is 100 per cent committed to our bright future." Winkelman added: "We have decided to take this course of action now so that the new manager can be clear what playing resources will be available to him from the current squad so that he may plan accordingly. "It is no secret how highly we value Izale, but we are now prepared to listen to serious offers." McLeod cost the Dons just £100,000 when he signed from Derby in July 2004. A percentage of the transfer fee will also go to the East Midlands club as part of the original deal.
Babylon Posted 14 June 2007 Posted 14 June 2007 2m for a division 4 striker... this country is insane.

If they've turned down £1 million they won't take £500K, there is no way Milan will pay £2 million for a player. Looks like he won't be coming.

ronnup Posted 15 June 2007 Posted 15 June 2007 don't count on it... I've got a horrible feeling he's on his way for silly money...
Cheese Me Posted 15 June 2007 Posted 15 June 2007 Why is everyone so down on Mcleod - is it just because he played for Derby? England U21 international, top scorer and player of the year in his division last year and 20+ in the previous two seasons in a league that we weren't far off being in ourselves is an excellent return and he's what 22? I don't want to be ripped off over him either but I'd love to see him at the club and think this would send a good message to the fans. Some of you guys are far too cynical - I'm guessing you would have been against the signings of Lennon, Savage, Guppy, Elliot, Fryatt and Hume too. Top players in lower leagues on their way up is the way to go and I for one hope we are linked with and sign more of this type of player.

Think it's the price tag being touted for him that most people object to. Most people seem to want him here but not for silly money.
Manwell Pablo Posted 15 June 2007 Posted 15 June 2007 don't count on it... I've got a horrible feeling he's on his way for silly money... I really don't see us going any higher than 1.3 million. Nor should we that money could be used in a thousand better ways. Izle is not worth 7 figures.
Lord Nibblington Posted 15 June 2007 Posted 15 June 2007 I really can't believe that MK Dons are expecting £2 million for a 4th division striker. I mean, Blackburn signed Benni McCarthy for £2.5 million. Crazy.
ronnup Posted 15 June 2007 Posted 15 June 2007 I really don't see us going any higher than 1.3 million.Nor should we that money could be used in a thousand better ways. Izle is not worth 7 figures. True and true again. I'm just worried about Allen's clear desire to make a big impact as quick as possible, as seen in the rapid transfer jamboree we had early doors and the web-site up-dates. you can sense him wanting to keep the ball rolling and with the money avaliable and the current hype about Mcleod (for us and everyone in league 1 and 2), it reeks of a big money 'gamble'. As for giving him a chance, they're really are some much more attractive risks in the 1 milion market. 24 goals in league 2 is not time for excitment if we're supposed to be a prem/champ club with aspirations.
Lord Nibblington Posted 15 June 2007 Posted 15 June 2007 Also, if we're looking to sign a lower league striker for around £2 million, S****hrope have said that the basic asking price for Billy Sharp is £2million.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 15 June 2007 Posted 15 June 2007 Also, if we're looking to sign a lower league striker for around £2 million, S****hrope have said that the basic asking price for Billy Sharp is £2million. Bingo (wings).
The People's Hero Posted 15 June 2007 Posted 15 June 2007 Sur la plomp de la moi. Whatever that means.
Ric Flair Posted 15 June 2007 Posted 15 June 2007 Unless a Premiership club is willing to take a chance on him, I can still see him coming here for just over a million. If McLeod gives MK Dons an ultimatum and becomes a nuisance around the club they'll want to get shot of him and i'm sure MA and MM will be whispering in his ear exactly what is required to lower the price and secure the transfer.
Cheese Me Posted 15 June 2007 Posted 15 June 2007 Sounds good to me. I'd be happy to have him for a million I think.
Gené and Tonic Posted 15 June 2007 Posted 15 June 2007 They've already got loads of money from promotion so it doesn't matter much
Simi Posted 15 June 2007 Posted 15 June 2007 They want £2million for him. If that is the case then no thank you. Isn't Sharp going for 2m ?
