Master Fox Posted 16 June 2007 Posted 16 June 2007 They want £2million for him. It's true. They do. According to the local Mk rag we apparently had a £1.3m offer turned down by Wrinkle-Lips. I still think we should sign him even if costs £2m. I agree it's over the top, but if I were Mandaric i would play the Elvis card..... = £1.6m + Elvis Hammond for Mcleod. Deal, thank you very much.

I do like the idea of off loading Hammond, but would the Dons want him? I think £2m is too much for a 4th division player. Eastwood and Sharp have performed at a higher level and they are £1.5m - £2m so would be a better bet. Plus Todorov has not yet signed a new contract at Pompey and he can perform at this level. I think £2m would be a brave move if we only have a budget of £3m - £4m.

Elvis Hammond will become ‘Mr MK Dons’ I wouldn't read too much into that budget figure you've stated there, just remember 'whatever it takes to get us there' 'MM'

Mikey Posted 16 June 2007 Posted 16 June 2007 Of course the Dons would want him. He would be a God there
Alexikokopops Posted 17 June 2007 Posted 17 June 2007 Just spend the weekend at MK Dons training ground for a Hockey tournament. No sign of McLeod, he must be on his way. Fact.
Asha Posted 17 June 2007 Posted 17 June 2007 Also, if we're looking to sign a lower league striker for around £2 million, S****hrope have said that the basic asking price for Billy Sharp is £2million. Sc.unthrope £2million is a lot to ask from a team i've never heard of...
Stevosevic Posted 17 June 2007 Posted 17 June 2007 Just spend the weekend at MK Dons training ground for a Hockey tournament. No sign of McLeod, he must be on his way. Fact. Were the rest of the squad back for pre-season?
Alexikokopops Posted 17 June 2007 Posted 17 June 2007 Were the rest of the squad back for pre-season? Nah, none of the squad were there, just a bunch of drunken hockey teams from over the country.
Mort Posted 21 June 2007 Posted 21 June 2007 "Leicester have made an £800,000 bid for Milton Keynes Dons striker Izale McLeod. (Daily Mirror)" From BBC Rumours Page. Link: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/g...ers/6224984.stm Be very anoyed if true... we can let the likes of Jarvis slip by and then can p*ss away cash (more than it would take to land Saga) on a non-entity like McLeod, then again this could all simply be MK Dons getting desperate and slashing the £1.5-2mil price tag he's been linked with in the past in an effort to attract attention.
Gené and Tonic Posted 21 June 2007 Posted 21 June 2007 £800,000 would be ok with me. Although I do admit I'd prefer Saga, and would have preferred Jarvis. But £800,000 is much better than previous prices quoted.

Mort Posted 21 June 2007 Posted 21 June 2007 Why is a player who has scored 40 odd goals in 2 seasons a non entity? Ok... non-entity is inacurate, but there is much, much better out there and he scored those goals in Leagues 1 & 2! Last time he was in the championship he couldnt hack it, there is nothing to suggest that he is suddenly able to deal with the step back up IMHO and it's simply a massive waste of money should we sign him.

Who do you suggest we get for 800k then? Don't say saga because we have already gone for him.

To put it in context. Charlton paid £2 million for Luke Varney who scored 17 goals in league 1 last season. In the season before (i.e. when MK Dons were in league 1), Izale Mcleod scored 17 league goals in a relegated side. Last season, Mcleod was top scorer in league 2 (probably to be expected bearing in mind his goalscoring record in league 1). I too do not remember Luke Varney doing much in the championship either.
Ric Flair Posted 21 June 2007 Posted 21 June 2007 Ok... non-entity is inacurate, but there is much, much better out there and he scored those goals in Leagues 1 & 2! There are plenty of players when they are young and in and out of the team that perhaps don't do themselves justice, but when they leave the club and ply their trade at a lower level they then realise their potential and are successful at the level they first started at. McLeod's record is as good as any lower level striker other than Billy Sharp. Sharp is going for £2 million and although i'd love him here, he's a small striker in the mould of Hume and not sure how that would work. I am not overly in love with Izale, we've had a lot of lower league strikers in recent years and they aren't a guaranteed success for their money. But £800,000 is a decent price for a striker who's scored 60 goals in 3 seasons at League 1 & 2 level. Who do you suggest we get for 800k then?Don't say saga because we have already gone for him. £800,000 doesn't get you a lot unless you either go abroad or you are signing a striker out of contract or out of favour. Would £800,000 get Todorov for a season or two? At £15,000 a week? I'm sure that avenue has been pursued, so you're right there aren't many targets that come to mind. I would love us to find an extra £1 million and go all out for Eastwood. Whether we could stretch to that is debatable, but with Kisnorbo going in a few weeks i'm sure we could. We need a prolific goal scorer.

Fair points... it's just £800k seems like a lot of money on a player similar to both Cort and Stappleton who i dont rate that much, still your probably right about £800k not getting you much (its probably the years of having no cash and what we had being badly spent, thats warped my valuation of some players ). I would love us to find an extra £1 million and go all out for Eastwood. Whether we could stretch to that is debatable, but with Kisnorbo going in a few weeks i'm sure we could. mancunianfox Posted 21 June 2007 Posted 21 June 2007 I'd be happy reasonably with Mcleod for £800k but I wouldn't want us to go any higher. He may not have done well before leaving Derby but he has done well since. Some on here want us to sign Cureton...how many seasons did it take him to get noticed? I think that Mcleod would be a better signing than Cureton anyway.

Also, with players like Billy Sharp already being snapped up, we need to get a move on before all of the proven goalscorers are gone.
dandannieldanok Posted 21 June 2007 Posted 21 June 2007 I very much doubt MK Dons are going to let him go for that price, I'm sure they wuoted £2million as the release price not long ago.
Blue Bob Posted 21 June 2007 Posted 21 June 2007 If we got him for £800k I think that would be excellent business. I believe they turned down a bid of £1M in January from Peterborough for him.
