The Holloway Bandwagon

I'd quite like Hollway to be honest. He's done a brilliant job at Plymouth, let's hope he could potentially do something similar for us.

I mentioned on another thread about a week ago that it could be Holloway, reported on Radio Cornwall today that he is likely to be the City manager within the next 48 hours.I have spoken to Plymouths Physio from last season and he says he is the best manager he has worked with,a bit daft but all the players respect him.Hopefully he can bring Norris and Gallagher with him,2 of Plymouths best players. ;0)

For all those behind this Holloway bandwagon perhaps you would like to hark back a couple of seasons to the simply appaling QPR display at the Walkers. I have never seen a team display such petulance, timewasting, rolling around on the floor to get oppositio players booked etc etc. It was without doubt the very worst display of so called football I have had the misfortune to see in over 30 years of watching the game. It was a policy positively encouraged by Mr. Holloway at the time and QPR were well known for it throughout the whole season.

The football played by Plymouth over the last couple of seasons hardly inspires me to see much better times on the way should he get the job.

Simply don't see him getting us to the premiership and the football will be pretty much the same as we are now experiencing but for those wanting a Martin Allen clone then Holloway is your man.

From The Star Today - Without Comment:

IAN HOLLOWAY is set to become the new boss at Leicester after being offered a bumper pay rise by Milan Mandaric.

Holloway is expected to be unveiled this week and end his 17-month spell at Plymouth after Mandaric agrees a £250,000 compensation package today.

Mandaric has returned from a short break in California to offer Holloway a £400,000-a-year deal and the promise of funds to fire the Foxes back into the Premier League.

Holloway has grown increasingly frustrated at the lack of cash available to him at Plymouth, despite leading the Pilgrims to the brink of another play-off charge.

And Mandaric has swooped to make the ex-QPR boss his SIXTH manager of 2007 at the Walkers Stadium.

Mandaric had previously interviewed Joe Royle, Graeme Souness and ex-Fulham boss Jean Tigana.

Current caretaker manager Gerry Taggart will be kept on the backroom staff but Holloway is expected to bring his trusted deputy Tim Breacker with him.

Holloway’s first game in charge will be this Saturday’s trip to Bristol City.

We've been told before that he's definitely on his way to us..

From NOTW 5 Feb 2006:

Foxes get Holloway

By David Harrison

IAN HOLLOWAY will this week be unveiled as the new Leicester City manager.

The QPR boss led his side for the last time at Leeds yesterday before he succeeds the axed Craig Levein at the Walkers Stadium.

Leicester chairman Jim McCahill, who was also linked with Burnley's Steve Cotterill and Mike Newell of Luton, contacted Rangers last week and agreed a compensation package.

A Leicester source confirmed: "Ian has agreed to join us.

"Everyone has seen what a great job he's done at QPR. His enthusiasm and passion will inspire us to move away from the relegation zone."

Holloway, 42, a former QPR player, returned to Loftus Road as manager five years ago after a similar period as boss of Bristol Rovers.

He led Rangers to promotion to the Championship in 2004. Despite the initial disappointment of relegation to League One, Holloway gradually turned the club round.

After narrowly missing out on the play-offs in 2002, QPR reached the play-off final in 2003 but were beaten 1-0 by Cardiff.

The following season he achieved promotion to the Championship as League One runners-up with a final-day victory over Sheffield Wednesday

Why would Mandaric issue such a strong denial, if he's supposed to be in talks with Holloway?

I hope it isn't... he wouldn't be the man to take us back up and to being a good Premiership team again...

Then again, he does have the passion! ;)

You mean that game of football that they "won" and we "lost"?

Point out exactly what superb aspects of play we are going to lose from our current performances then?

Really, the level of ignorance that exists within our fan base is quite frightening.

It's amazing what people lie about, eh Sex-God?!

Hope for Foxes sake it's true, I think he could be what we need. Should make the weekends match interesting... he's not exactly loved at Ashton Gate with his Bristol Rovers past. Bring it on !

Who the hell is Gallagher.

And to those saying Ollie isnt a Premiership manager, you are not a premiership team so why that is worrying people.

You will get Dowie, this Ollie stuff is just a smokescreen

Dowie, Holloway, both about as good/bad (depending on your view) as each other anyway

Living in Bristol I know how much the man is hated by briz city fans. So it would make Saturday a bit more interesting. However as funny and nice bloke he seems to be I just can’t see him taking us forward. I agree he’s better than some names linked but please nooo. what happened to all this talk of tigana? And the chap on here saying it was a done deal! ps im praying we win saturday otherwise i'll never hear the bloody end of it off of all these wurzels.

Holloway is an average manager, i'll neither be happy nor unhappy with his appointment. Can I see him ever being a decent Premiership manager? No. So I don't expect him to see out his contract here unless Mandaric's 3 year plan fails.

Thank god you're here Ric.

Please vote for me in the awards, looks like I'm going to be all dolled up at the awards ceremony only to see Thracian walk off with half the prizes.

I might turn up in an ape costume, that will upset him.

I am undecided.

As you say he is average, and has been average with little funds. Could he be better than average with more funds? not sure, but we ca hope.

Just if it is holloway atleast the majority of the crowd will get behind him intially, we need to back whoever it is as we can't keep changing managers.

Well since there's no best signature you'll just have to make me best newcomer instead. :)

Also how well Holloway's doing with no money should be encouraging, AND he's a personality we can get behind, much like Allen.

He wouldn't be my choice. I'd actually be surprised if he took the job as he's never worked north of London before. It will all hinge on his family - it's well documented that his wife and four children (three of whom are deaf) come before football in his life.

He may prefer to wait for another south-coast job comes up - Southampton would be the obvious destination if the club can get some financial security, or maybe a mid-sized London club - even Bristol City if he could manage to tear his heart away from the blue-and-white side of Bristol???

He's not for me though. Having said that, all my picks are out of the race.

Whoever wouldnt be happy with Holloway is just a complete idiot - weve spent the last few seasons in a relegation dogfight, weve got a meglomaniac chairman, and the only other REALISTIC options are Frank Burrows, Steve Walsh, Gerry Taggart, Peter Reid, and Mike Newell.

No one else would come at the risk of leaving again after a few months. Holloway has done well at all his clubs he has been at and on a tight budget.
