purpleronnie Posted 7 May 2008 Posted 7 May 2008 Here we go, First we get an appology then all our good plays Feck off!! Good players?
Thracian Posted 7 May 2008 Posted 7 May 2008 Considering we have been playing hoof-ball and Howard hasn't been great at it, and the fact that Hume has played out wide right for large parts and STILL bagged 11 goals with a team who have the worst scoring record, we would be stupid to get rid. Spot on. Holloway's messing about with our leading scorer was another major mistake which probably cost us three or more goals.

BigGibbo Posted 7 May 2008 Posted 7 May 2008 Spot on. Holloway's messing about with our leading scorer was another major mistake which probably cost us three or more goals. The way I see it if Hume would of played in his rightful position all season we would not have been relegated fact.
The People's Hero Posted 7 May 2008 Posted 7 May 2008 The way I see it if Hume would of played in his rightful position all season we would not have been relegated fact. So you start by saying it's your opinion and finish by saying it's fact? Great.
Bert Posted 7 May 2008 Posted 7 May 2008 I've said it time and time again. He is our best player. If played up front we wouldn't be in this mess. I just hope he is good to his word, because if not, i will lose a lot of respect for him.
Dom_Harborough Fox Posted 7 May 2008 Posted 7 May 2008 Two words... Paul Dickov. Must admit that was my first thought as well. But I think Hume really does enjoy playing here & I really hope he stays. He still managed a respectable 11 goals this year despite being out on the wing for most of the season & always gives 110% for the cause. I just hope that if he does stick around, whoever is in charge sees sense & plays him up front. He suffered for his versatility this year, having to make way for underperforming strikers (DJ, Fryatt, Collins John), despite scoring more than any of them when he played up front. If he does stick around I think thats 20 goals almost guarenteed tbh
shen Posted 7 May 2008 Posted 7 May 2008 If Hume and Fryatt stay it would be fantastic as we would have a great strikeforce for this league which should be capable of getting us back to the champioship. Back that up with Bell, Porter, Gradel, King, Weso, and Worley and we should be challenging for top spot next season. I hope that Mattock, McAuley, Kisnorbo and Stearman stays but I think that is very unlikely, so we are going to need some more defenders. What are you basing that on? 14 goals between them this season, and Fryatt's been a dreadful finisher. Even worse than Akinbiyi for crying out loud, and even at a lower level!!! Top draw news.He is one of the players i would have been gutted if he left. He is more than capable of 20 goals a season in the championship if played up front. So he will have no problem scoring in League One. He is the man to fire us back to the Championship Same here, what are you basing that on? "More than capable"??? We've moaned about his irregular finishing time and again. And just because he's scored 11 goals in the Champo this season, it doesn't remotely suggest that he'll walk the ball in with ease in League One. The gulf in class is not as big as it is between the Prem and the Championship. Having said that, he clearly is our main threat so we should keep him on because of that. I believe Howard will be another asset to us in this league, especially if teams are going to put 10 men behind the ball.
Dr The Singh Posted 7 May 2008 Posted 7 May 2008 Where ever the grass is greener, that's where Hume will be!! If given the chance, he will leave us for a Champoinship club, it's just a natural thing to do as a pro footballer!!!
Corky Posted 7 May 2008 Posted 7 May 2008 If we can give Hume the right service and play him in the same position for the whole season then we will see plenty of goals from him.
shen Posted 7 May 2008 Posted 7 May 2008 I've said it time and time again. He is our best player. If played up front we wouldn't be in this mess. I just hope he is good to his word, because if not, i will lose a lot of respect for him. He won't shed a tear if he leaves. He's just a professional like anyone else and if he get's a chance to stay in the Championship with a decent club, I wouldn't blame him for taking it.
Chimp Posted 7 May 2008 Posted 7 May 2008 To be honest, I'm a little shocked that the club have chosen Hume as the one to come forward on hands and knees, begging for forgiveness and vowing to do better. For ****s sake, he's one on the few players that least deserves this indignity, there are much more apt candidates for this piece of PR grovelling by the club. Another thing, I see the majoprity of the blame being laid on the players, yet none on the management? Surely the press, especially the Mercury, can see that the team selections, tactics and substitutions had a large part to play in our failure?
Phube Posted 7 May 2008 Posted 7 May 2008 24!!! Are you sure he's 24... wow... I always thought he was older!!
The People's Hero Posted 7 May 2008 Posted 7 May 2008 This would never have happened under the stewardship of Tony Dorigo/Tony Drago/Toy Dragon.

Tame lap-dog Anderson won't bite the hand that feeds him. At least I've never noticed it yet.
breadandcheese Posted 7 May 2008 Posted 7 May 2008 Spot on. Holloway's messing about with our leading scorer was another major mistake which probably cost us three or more goals. I think you're absolutely right, and the sad thing is that the margin this season was so tight that a little decision here and there ultimately cost us relegation. Hume admittedly missed the penalty against Wednesday, that probably ultimately consigned us to relegation, however, I feel the damage was done by Holloway putting him out wide. As you say, it probably cost us 3 goals, which ultimately, probably would have saved us. Amazingly, people are still calling on Holloway to be given time, although that is for a different thread so I'll stop.
Koke Posted 7 May 2008 Posted 7 May 2008 If he stays and plays up front for the entire season, he's guaranteed 20 goals minimum. I'd be over the moon if he stays.
Tilley Posted 7 May 2008 Posted 7 May 2008 If he stays and plays up front for the entire season, he's guaranteed 20 goals minimum. I'd be over the moon if he stays. Yep, I agree with you mate. I hope Humey stays
BigGibbo Posted 7 May 2008 Posted 7 May 2008 So you start by saying it's your opinion and finish by saying it's fact?Great. The way I see it, is that its fact Obviously its an impossibility for it to actually be a fact as we could never know rendering this post pointless.
josedob Posted 7 May 2008 Posted 7 May 2008 Glad to hear those words from Hume. For the past few days I've had this nagging feeling that his chances in the Canadian team might be reduced due to the team's drop to L1. With World Cup qualifying about to start and the fact that he's only 24, I'm sure he'd want to protect his place (not that he starts alot of games for them - but he does play regularly). Someone please remind me he's in CONCACAF and shouldn't worry that a drop to League 1 is going to make him any less viable as a selection in the Great White North's team. Right? I mean, didn't Port Vale have a player on the Trinidad team?

None of our managers has ever been at fault or the reason for our demise, not, Pleat, not McLintock, not Hamilton, not Taylor and certainly not Holloway - well not according to Blanderson, it's always the fans fault for expecting to much.
Joe. Posted 7 May 2008 Posted 7 May 2008 I really do hope he stays- he could be key to this promtion challenge next season IF he's played up front. That's the only thign I worry about- although what satisfies me is knowing that we have Bell and Gradel to cover the wings with surely a couple more additions there too.
Jack Posted 7 May 2008 Posted 7 May 2008 I hope he stays for next season, he will be key for us aslong as he is played up front.
