If you want to play in a tournament like this then you should respect the rules of the host nation. If you don’t value vaccinations that’s fine, but don’t participate.

But that's the thing, he was given assurances he was fine right? And looking at it, it's looks like he has the anti bodies to be exempt anyway. I find it really weird that these draconian are being portrayed as justified and I think Novak is a cock tbh

Yes apparently  he was, I didnt realise.

He wants to stay and fight the case?

It's because if he leaves now he won't be allowed to return to Australia for another 3 years, effectively denying him winning the grand slam again

As far as I've read he DID have an exemption due to having the virus on Dec16th?

He also went through all the documentation  like visas etc to travel half way round the World to play.

These docu6 were all verified as satisfactory prior to his departure by the necessary bodies.

I think they are just making a scapegoat out of him.

It will backfire on them terribly and make the state of victoria , the Aussie tennis body and the PM look utterly stupid in the end.

He was also apparently at a public event the day after that positive test...

Suppose we are all covid restriction experts at the moment, let's see what happens.

I think the suggestion being made here is that its quite 'convenient' that he caught covid at exactly the right time not to have missed any tournaments, but with enough time to be able to travel to Australia at the start of the season.

Not sure where you get your information from, but this is not true.

Not the brightest penny in the till. I get the impression that he's on a personal crusade on behalf of vocal anti-vaxxers and, as is often the case with vocal celebrities, feels the need to bang some nationalist drum on behalf of his country. Rafa has spoken out against his stance. If he or anyone else believes this is a personal vendetta against him, they should take a look at "Border Control Australia". - they're tough on anyone who consciously or inadvertently attempts to flout the rules.

China has recently locked down two cities to prevent a minor outbreak of Covid happening. Not a polite request to stay at home, but an edict enforced by police.

Novak believes he's the special one - all the glorification has gone to his head.

I'm not sure anyone know where he gets any of his information from. But if you say stuff with confidence it makes it true lol

if this is true and he knew, it gives the govt justification for now cancelling his visa on the grounds that he in untrustworthy as an individual.

the original decision making looked ‘dodgy and political’  and the judge has agreed he was treated unreasonably in this context.

If the Aussie govt now rescind his visa using exceptional powers then it’s true

So this really makes all involved look utterly stupid!!!

Cant waitvto see No akin win the tournament  and absolutely  hammer all the governing bodies.

Feel for the Aussie Tennis federation  person who has to hand him the trophy!!!

It’s the precedent it all sets really. How many other people have been estranged from families due to the Australian system for handling covid (rightly or wrongly). They’ll have missed important events during the us period.

If the rules state you need to be vaccinated, you need to be vaccinated. Any chance the Government pull rank on this?

fathers have been unable to be at the birth of their children, families unable to visit dying reletives, weddings and funerals cancelled.

Police officers, nurses, firefighters workers in general have all lost their jobs by refusing to be vaccintated... but, if you are rich and famous.. free to do whatever the fvck you please.

Refugees locked up for 9 years... not rich and maybe slightly the wrong shade.

This is a joke...

Now ask about Nev Power (Neville Power) Head of Australia's #COVID19  task force, who illegaly entered Western Australia and remians free. When 64 other illegal entrants have been locked up

Some Twitter rumours circulating that he's been detained again (after winning the appeal)?

Not as far as i know... released.. BUT... possible that the immigration minister will refuse to allow him to stay.

Interesting to see what reception he gets from the fans. I imagine there will be some hostility amongst the crowd

Do they get hostile fans at big tennis tournaments? I thought they were all just big love-ins, like Wimbledon. C'mon, Timmy.

Really disappointed with that result today, @ozleicesterhad hit the nail on the head. It’s been a tough slog the last 2 years or so in Victoria and with almost everyone else in the state requiring vaccinations to go to work, this feels like a bit of a kick in the teeth.

My only hope is that there is a clever lawyer out there that can use this case to secure the release of every refugee held up in that hotel, and the others like it inside and outside Australia under the control of the federal government. I wont get my hopes up thought.

Be interesting to see what happens next, the government could go further rearrest and deport - this could include a 3 year ban now.
Novak could have his small win leave without wanting to risk the 3 year ban.

Or Novak could be free to play at the Open next week, in which case their could be an interesting atmosphere at his games.

tbh im done with it... the gvt can shove their masks, tracking, social distancing etc etc up their arses.

If the wealthy can do whatever the fvck they please, so can i.

Yes! Search for clips of Naomi Osaka's win against Serena at the US Open.

They do in Melbourne, interestingly Djokovic supporters have a history of violent scenes at the open, could be hostile if locals start booing or abusing Djokovic.

It's literally true you weirdo, he had to appeal else his visa would be rescinded leading to him not being able to enter the country for 3 years.
