I think Djokovic has the right to not be vaccinated but he should also have to abide by the same rules everyone else does.

I guess all the English cricket team are vaccinated? Or is it just because Djokovic has made a big deal out of it.

Pretty much this for me.

If the Aussies don't want unvaccinated people there fine, but no-one should get special treatment because of the ££ they'll bring in. I do believe if the population hadn't kicked up a fuss though he'd have been let in.

Nah they would all have to be fully vaccinated, or have a legitimate medical reason to not be vaccinated. I can’t imagine too many sports people fall into this category.
If you’re not fully Vaccinated you’re not coming into the country.

Posting his "exemption" on social media wasn't the smartest idea. Probably wouldn't have bat an eyelid if he hadn't made it so public.

It was a bigger thing because both the Prime Minister and State Premier of Victoria had come out and said no one under any circumstances would be allowed into the country without being fully vaccinated or having a valid medical reason for not being vaccinated.

This has included family members, Australian citizens living overseas, people wishing to visit ill and dying family members and friend.
If a sports person had been allowed around these rules there would have been uproar regardless of what he put on social media.

The big thing to remember here is, Melbourne is the most locked down City in the world. We’ve spent most of the last 2 years working from home, home schooling our kids, not being able to visit friends and family, even kids playgrounds have been closed.
So anyone given any exceptions to the rules will be looked down on by most of the Australian population.

Good points and fully agree. It just came across as being quite smug that he'd got his exemption and was bypassing his way into the country. Brought that on himself but rightly challenged

Political theatre and stupidly he fell into it.

He should get the next flight out and stick 2 fingers up to the likes of Morrison and that utter grandstanding toilet Dan Andrews.

I’m curious, when Kel was refused entry to Italy, what was the reason again?

was it similar?

He probably gave the flight desk his driving licence instead of his passport..

Nadal put it perfectly.

"He made his own decisions, and everybody is free to take their own decisions, but then there are some consequences.  Of course I don't like the situation that is happening. In some way, I feel sorry for him. But at the same time, he knew the conditions since a lot of months ago, so he makes his own decision."

Now I agree totally for travel etc. But domestically I think it's totally the opposite. Where it gets murky is where he's 'working' as an athelete, should he be allowed to enter purely because of who he is? The answer for me is no.

Fair play for him for standing up for what he believes in though, although I don't think this is the last we'll hear of it.

This post couldn’t not be more wrong if it tried and as someone living in Melbourne really pissed me off.
When push game to shove Novak simply did not have the paperwork to support his application. He was refused entry to Australia because of the rules we currently have in place. That is a fact.

Not sure what your issue with Dan Andrews is, but everything about this post suggest you haven’t got a clue what you are talking about.

Suspect he's just a vehement anti-vaxxer and desperate for anyone to suit his narrative, hence the post.

Aus, is there any talk about how this appeal will go, and whether it's ever been successfully appealed before?

Djokovic's dad comparing his son's "persecution" to Jesus is bound to get the religious folk on side, too. Absolute sideshow this whole thing is turning into and goes once again to prove that if you're rich, powerful and famous, you can do everything in your power to protest, flail about and even attempt a diplomatic incident when you don't follow the rules.

Seems like most pro tennis players are not a massive fan of this move, never mind the residents of Australia/Victoria. Let's hope it sticks else it's a shuddering precedent to set for the Australian borders.

It is highly unlikely there will be any success with the appeal, what appears to have happened is Tennis Australia have given tennis players the wrong information. Hence Novak thinking he had an exemption to enter Australia, however, it’s only the federal government who can give this out.

Another tennis player from Czech Republic has also been detained by boarder force today, although I can’t think of her name.

The things with a visa to enter Australia is its subject to the conditions on the day of arrival. Basically it’s a huge stuff up by Tennis Australia and the Federal Government, but I can’t see the government backing down. Though it depends what is going on behind the scenes.

If he doesnt want the vaccine, I dont agree but whatever, thats his choice. But if Australia have certain rules you have 2 choices - either abide by them and get the vaccine or dont go, pretty fvckin simple.

It's a bit like going to Saudi Arabia and throwing your toys out of the pram because you cant drink on the streets.

Anti vax? No.

Anti vax mandate? yes

Get your poke shots by all means. Do or don't it is no one elses business and should not be forced onto anyone.

It's not being forced on him or anyone else in Australia. However, follow the rules or fuch off. Simples.
