Dying my hair.

I knew a person who dyed his hair blonde and he had brown hair. It turned ginger and we have always laughed at him since.

This is true. The darker your hair, the more times you will need to bleach it to go blonde. The best way is to start by having highlights, and then go lighter, and have more done, if you get what I mean.

Even funnier is brown dye on blonde hair - it goes green. lol

I found out the hard way.

Someone said I have to use vaseline to stop the dye coming creeping onto my face...

You don't have to use vaseline if you are careful.

If you want to dye your hair black, go for a semi-permanent. This will eventually wash out. A permanent hair dye will not, and you will either be stuck with it until it washes out, or you will have to shave/cut it off if you don't like it.

Nothing wrong with the idea just lacks originality.

Forget all the emo remarks etc but do something different. Do numerous colours or highlights.

lol I know they're not extremely original ideas themselves but just suggestions from a wannabe 'mo.

I dislike my hair colour, but every time I've gone to dye it darker I've discovered that I still have my testacles and stopped. ;)

Jokes aside, do whatever will make you feel comfortable, kiddo. And yes, vaseline stop your dying your skin. Remember the back of your neck, as well.

You lot are so fucking mean (with the odd exception!). If he wants to dye his hair back then let him, can't say i've noticed many of you who are clearly qualified to give style/fashion advice. :glare::whistle:

Take Lisa's advice and use a semi-permanent to start with. If you really like it you can always go for a permanent dye later. And, as it's black you're going for I really would use vaseline along your hairline (just make sure the vaseline is on your skin, not the roots of your hair, nothing worse than very dark hair with light roots!). Have a damp flannel handy so you can wipe off any dye that drips onto your skin while you're waiting for the colour to take, saves embarrassing 'streaky skin', and make sure you wipe carefully around/inside your ears. Lastly, especially with a dark dye, make sure you rinse it for ages longer than you think you need to so the water really does run clear. Even then, avoid going out in the rain with a white shirt on until you have washed it a couple of times. Yes, I am talking from experience!

It's whatever you want it to be :kissing:

Hang on then, let me just check my dulux wall chart.

Black.

It's light brown at the moment, but have just decided I hate it too much.

So in dying it black, is there anything I need to be careful of/worry about/avoid/make sure I do...?

Never done this before, but need a change.

Get it done professionally if you haven't done it before or else it might turn out worse. Or even better, just don't do it.

Racists.

I put it down to the lack of dyed black haired managers in the Premiership.
