Bryn Posted 5 August 2008 Posted 5 August 2008 I don't want either. I also don't want any signing that isn't a Pearson signing.
Daggers Posted 5 August 2008 Posted 5 August 2008 Media attention, shirt sales it'll all add up.If it was a Pearson signing I'm sure he would have at least commented on this. But it's Mandaric doing the talking again like he's shown he'll do in the past. I really don't see Pearson as the type of bloke who takes shit from anyone - this isn't being done without his direct permission.
Simi Posted 5 August 2008 Posted 5 August 2008 I really don't see Pearson as the type of bloke who takes shit from anyone - this isn't being done without his direct permission. I disagree, but we shall be able to tell in time I guess.
Daggers Posted 5 August 2008 Posted 5 August 2008 I disagree, but we shall be able to tell in time I guess. Mandaric saw first hand what his dabbling did to the team and where it ended up. I'm hardly his biggest fan - but the man would not foist something onto Pearson without his absolute agreement because there too damn much at stake. We got pissed off at being relegated - Mandaric took a wacking great hit to his wallet and his ego. I'm prepared to wager it hurt him and us equally.
bigneville Posted 5 August 2008 Posted 5 August 2008 easy wonk, a simple no thank you would suffice. Gotta get my point across mate. A simple no isn't good enough to Dickov. He should be told to go collect his retirement fund elsewhere.

It's just a feeling that I've got. When you compare the likes of Dickov and Savage to what we've already signed it doesn't add up. It seems a very Mandaric thing to do, bringing back two crowd favourites for a season or two. I hope if they do sign it doesn't disrupt the harmony we seem to have built up over this pre-season and I hope they are under no obligation to expect a starting place, because over pre-season there are plenty of people infront of them.

As I have said in the Savage thread - it hangs together perfectly. Dickov offers something to the front line that is missing entirely at present and Savage adds muscle which is absent from the whole side. When you tag on the fact that both have engines for a full 90 minutes it makes their age irrelevant. The fact that they are ex-players is an irrelevancy - he's not doing it to curry favour because he will be perfectly aware that most people dislike Dickov for going and think Savage is a willy puller. It is being done, as far as I am concerned, for legitimate team reasons. This is a damn tough league to punch your way out of and we lack their qualities currently - we either sign them or someone who can offer the same, I don't care which but I care that we do it and do it soon.
Rocky Dennis Posted 5 August 2008 Posted 5 August 2008 Lotta moaning going on again! Theres a lot of experts out there!! Dont judge any signing (young or old) until they've played a few games at least. Dicko was scoring goals last season in a Division higher than ours, that will do me. As for his past with City, I couldnt give a monkeys, some people take things far too personally
Guest Bilo Posted 5 August 2008 Posted 5 August 2008 I don't want either. I also don't want any signing that isn't a Pearson signing. Agreed. Most of the signings pre-season have had little or no air of Mandaric and they've been all the better for it. Pearson seems a very astute operator in the transfer market, best to leave him to do his job.
Ricey Posted 5 August 2008 Posted 5 August 2008 I don't believe some people here. Dickov and Savage were loved by the fans, they leave and they are hated...just because they gave it all for another club. This club obviously means something to both of them, but more to the point THEY ARE GOOD PLAYERS. Dickov was great for Blackpool in the Championship, he will cause problems in League One and score a few goals. Savage is too good for League One, if he comes and gets fit he will be easily one of the best players in the Division. Bring it on I say.

I never loved Dickov, I couldn't have made it more obvious during his spell here! It's the intrusion of Mandaric that is concerning me as well with these pair, him offering them big bucks and long contracts for aged players is his way as we know.

Ok, well the majority loved him as he gave 100% and scored goals. I can understand the Mandaric worry, i'm just hoping he has learnt the lesson after last seasons disasters.

If this happens i asume Howards going ? Howard Chambers Fryatt Dickov Campbell Hayles in the first team + Sappleton

Fox in a Box Posted 5 August 2008 Posted 5 August 2008 wasnt tony cottee over the hill? welcome back Paul hope you score as many as you did last time, thats if the rumour is true that your coming back.
Matt Posted 5 August 2008 Posted 5 August 2008 If this happens i asume Howards going ?Howard Chambers Fryatt Dickov Campbell Hayles in the first team + Sappleton Hmmmmmmmmm as much as I don't want Dickov here I suppose every cloud has a silver lining...
crisp monster Posted 5 August 2008 Posted 5 August 2008 if Pearsons happy with it, then so am i IMO Dickov would be a great signing, not as good as he used to be but someone whos going to be snarling at opposition defenders and his own team mates if they don't deliver the ball where he wants it as Thrac said earlier, he's a very good near post attacker and if Max is getting in crosses of various height and pace, then someone has to be meeting those crosses. he would also help Sappleton and McKay with their development for too long now Leicester City have been too much of a soft touch and we've needed players with the 'stand up and fight for it' attitude that Dickov has. not sure about Sav though i'll go with the flow on that one
Fez of Mahrez Posted 5 August 2008 Posted 5 August 2008 As I have said in the Savage thread - it hangs together perfectly.Dickov offers something to the front line that is missing entirely at present and Savage adds muscle which is absent from the whole side. This is a damn tough league to punch your way out of and we lack their qualities currently - we either sign them or someone who can offer the same, I don't care which but I care that we do it and do it soon. First bit - will wait to be convinced of that. I remember when Guppy came back, people said he never had pace anyway so that wasn't important. He was garbage. Dublin, Keown, Wilcox, Dabizas, N'Gotty... the list is endless. We have had rotten luck with old players in the past few years and I don't think you can blame people for being sceptical. Second bit - again, unconvincing to me. Pearson already has the likes of Howard and Oakley for experience and has spoken at length about the hungry young players he wants to attract to the club. At no point have I heard him talk about wanting players in their mid-30s. It absolutely smacks of Mandaric's meddling and I think you're overestimating his ability to learn from his mistakes (which seem to be neverending). Just my opinion, but I don't like this at all.

Ozwin Posted 5 August 2008 Posted 5 August 2008 I wish this'd just hurry up and be confirmed. This has been going on that long that it almost comes close to the Ronaldo saga in terms of how old it is.

Dickov has been doing nothing all pre-season apart from looking for a club to offer him a salary he can relax on and have to do **** all for. Savage has been dropped from Derby's pre-season for not putting the effort in generally not being interested in the teams well being. For me, we'd be better off without them. I've seen enough in pre-season to think we can more than compete in this league. I completely agree with the last bit, for me, I'd rather us see us sign someone else with those qualites. The way Pearson has gone about his signings impresses me, I'd like him to keep on that route. Not the one I feel Mandaric is sending him down.
