David Guiza Posted 5 August 2008 Posted 5 August 2008 Dickov has been doing nothing all pre-season apart from looking for a club to offer him a salary he can relax on and have to do **** all for. Savage has been dropped from Derby's pre-season for not putting the effort in generally not being interested in the teams well being. For me, we'd be better off without them. I've seen enough in pre-season to think we can more than compete in this league.I completely agree with the last bit, for me, I'd rather us see us sign someone else with those qualites. The way Pearson has gone about his signings impresses me, I'd like him to keep on that route. Not the one I feel Mandaric is sending him down. Mandaric said about savage that it's likely we wouldnt sign him because he wants to keep the youth in the squad or words to that extent then confirmed Dickov who is 30+

The way Pearson has gone about his signings impresses me, I'd like him to keep on that route. Not the one I feel Mandaric is sending him down. I have to agree with most of that. Of the two, Dickov would be the better signing but only if he's being used as an impact striker - like how Blackpool used him against us, chasing down the tired defenders, forcing mistakes and poaching the odd goal. One of the main frustrations last year was the lack of someone willing to make a gamble to get on the end of a cross, Dickov always took that chance and if he still has the same quick instincts then could do ok. Savage on the other hand.... would his heart still be in it?
He's not bald Posted 5 August 2008 Posted 5 August 2008 Mandaric said about savage that it's likely we wouldnt sign him because he wants to keep the youth in the squad or words to that extent then confirmed Dickov who is 30+ When will people learn?...no Dickov..no Savage...just another ploy to squeeze every last ticket sale out of the faithful...wake up and smell the coffee ffs!
Daggers Posted 5 August 2008 Posted 5 August 2008 First bit - will wait to be convinced of that. I remember when Guppy came back, people said he never had pace anyway so that wasn't important. He was garbage. Dublin, Keown, Wilcox, Dabizas, N'Gotty... the list is endless. We have had rotten luck with old players in the past few years and I don't think you can blame people for being sceptical. I don't blame people for scepticism if it weren't for the fact that the pair of them have just seasons where they proved they had the engine, and Dickov demonstrated he still scores. I have a bit of faith in Pearson, that he is forming a coherent squad and a belief that the style of players that they represent is the important bit for the team - this last bit is something you either buy into or not. I value players like Savage for what they bring to the party - especially in this division. Our midfield is going to be targeted because they are slight and especially the ones with a history of injury. Teams know we will aim to play through midfield in order to break down strong defensive positions and attacking us there will prevent us from pushing on - as our weak midfield over the last few seasons managed to do to itself. Second bit - again, unconvincing to me. Pearson already has the likes of Howard and Oakley for experience and has spoken at length about the hungry young players he wants to attract to the club. At no point have I heard him talk about wanting players in their mid-30s. It absolutely smacks of Mandaric's meddling and I think you're overestimating his ability to learn from his mistakes (which seem to be neverending).Just my opinion, but I don't like this at all. I fully accept that this will have started with MM - where we obviously differ is that I believe Pearson could have stopped the move for either straight away. I don't believe Mandaric could push through a situation that Pearson could argue would unbalance the squad. I have nothing to support this except my half-full cup of coffee
Daggers Posted 5 August 2008 Posted 5 August 2008 *** CAVEAT *** A year ago I was arguing that JFH would be a brilliant signing as he could mix it up and deliver stunning dead balls. I am perfectly happy to admit I was absolutely wrong on that ageing player and could be on these two too...but us old blokes have to show a bit of solidarity!
MikeyT Posted 5 August 2008 Posted 5 August 2008 Damn it seems my prediction of 20 pages for this thread has well and truly been beat!
J.Lisemore Posted 5 August 2008 Posted 5 August 2008 I wish this'd just hurry up and be confirmed. This has been going on that long that it almost comes close to the Ronaldo saga in terms of how old it is. Almost

Daggers Posted 5 August 2008 Posted 5 August 2008 I bat for the other team. I judge no man. *Apart from all of the people I happily sit in judgement over
The People's Hero Posted 5 August 2008 Posted 5 August 2008 Why don't we just sign Iwan Roberts. 1) cheaper. 2) more goals. 3) we already have a song.
Moreton Posted 5 August 2008 Posted 5 August 2008 If Dickov signs then i can garentee guarantee that Hayles with be on his way. Chambers and Sappelton will be sent out on loan. Garenteed. Guaranteed. EDIT: Made the corrections

My top tip for the day is that if you can't spell a word and yet feel you MUST use it. Be sure not to use it again, in bold.

blueharmie Posted 5 August 2008 Posted 5 August 2008 at least dickov can score goals, thank god for that
Bert Posted 5 August 2008 Posted 5 August 2008 Well if he scores i'll be cheering his goals, because there Leicester goals but I certainly won't be cheering him, and if/when I see him in the car park before a game i'll most certainly be saying "Ah we're good enough for you now ah? How much have we offered you this time...obviously good enough this time round". Hope he clocks you one if you do, no need for that really. You're not the only one that got annoyed he left, but this is a bit too far. I'm sure you'd stay in a job that's not as attractive and less money if something bigger and better comes along.
J.Lisemore Posted 5 August 2008 Posted 5 August 2008 I just want this story confirmed now...fed up of all the rumours. And i dont really see why most people hate Dickov as much as they do because at the end of the day if a club in a higher division came in offering more money then i can understand why he wanted to leave. He never lacked determination and always put 110% in so i dont really see a reason why he shouldnt come back.
Jack Posted 6 August 2008 Posted 6 August 2008 He wouldn't exactly be my first choice to bring in but if he scored goals and helps us get promoted then I will not be complaining.
Joe_LCFC Posted 6 August 2008 Posted 6 August 2008 i think we should snap him up. he's got experiance and knows where to find the net. Something Steve Howard And Campbell cannot do: App (Gls)* 089 (32) << Leicester 011 (6) << Blackpool You Cant say thats not exactly poor

Ultra Posted 6 August 2008 Posted 6 August 2008 I don't blame people for scepticism if it weren't for the fact that the pair of them have just seasons where they proved they had the engine, and Dickov demonstrated he still scores. Except they didn't. Dickov was injured during much of his loan spell at Blackpool, and how many games did Derby win under the captaincy of Super Sav? I think you'll find the answer is less than one. I have a bit of faith in Pearson, that he is forming a coherent squad and a belief that the style of players that they represent is the important bit for the team - this last bit is something you either buy into or not. Teams know we will aim to play through midfield in order to break down strong defensive positions and attacking us there will prevent us from pushing on - as our weak midfield over the last few seasons managed to do to itself. We have FIVE central midfielders (three of them over 30) at the club already, plus Porter and Adams who can also play there. Unlike Oakley and/or Clemence are leaving I really don't see why we need even more reinforcements in this area. I fully accept that this will have started with MM - where we obviously differ is that I believe Pearson could have stopped the move for either straight away. ..and risk ending up like Martin Allen? I don't believe Mandaric could push through a situation that Pearson could argue would unbalance the squad. But it looks like that's exactly what he's doing, unless Savage is coming on loan with Derby still paying much of his wages (similar to the deal we had with Bournemouth over Max Gradel).

From what i've been told, Pearson has said 'thanks, but no thanks' to Savage, but he wants Dickov and that's why he's set to sign. I believe Milan, may have, just may have learnt his lesson for the time being.

I'm just concerned Dickov will undo some of the great work Pearson hasn't started here already. I still believe this signing was initiated by MM.

Daggers Posted 6 August 2008 Posted 6 August 2008 ...and how many games did Derby win under the captaincy of Super Sav? I think you'll find the answer is less than one. Oh yes - how observant. I actually meant to write "And can win games in the Premiership single-handedly". Oh no, hang on a minute, I didn't - which is why I didn't. So your point would be what exactly? We have FIVE central midfielders (three of them over 30) at the club already, plus Porter and Adams who can also play there. Unlike Oakley and/or Clemence are leaving I really don't see why we need even more reinforcements in this area. Again - I've said nothing about the quantity at the club, just something about the missing element. You seem to be picking an argument for the sake of it because I pointed out you misquoted Thatcher. ..and risk ending up like Martin Allen? What? But it looks like that's exactly what he's doing, unless Savage is coming on loan with Derby still paying much of his wages (similar to the deal we had with Bournemouth over Max Gradel). No it doesn't. You are making things up in order to have an argument.
