Was pretty thick down here on the way in to work, good job I left early with the number of numpties who were brave enough to drive but not confident enough to get out if first gear...

Took me about an hour & a half to drive home from work this morning, normally takes 15 minutes. On top of that I nearly died about 8 times. Safe to say I'm not going in work tonight

Can anyone give me any advice? I have work tonight and its a 5 mile drive on very quiet country roads. I've managed to go through my driving career without snow as I've lived by the sea for a few years. I'm living near croft at the mo and the snow is 6 inches thick. I don't finish work till 7am and its likely to freeze. Is this an excuse not to go work being very unconfident about driving there? I work through an agency so I feel I should go as they're not shy to let people go.

I'd say it was a perfectly good reason, but I'd gild the lily a little and say you are snowed in.

It isn’t a perfectly good reason and they can’t let you go for not going in. You won’t be the only one.

I remember going out on a work night once and getting completely wankered. Woke up the next day still smashed, looked out the window and it’s been snowing hasn’t it. Saviour lol

It’s a perfectly valid reason but I’d still lay it on thick. I doubt I’ll go in tomorrow, **** traveling to London in this.

A phrase I haven't heard in ages mate so I looked it up.

Apparently it also has a very different meaning these days! :D

Also, as an alternate meaning, another phrase for female masturbation; the manual stimulation of the clitoris performed on oneself.

After I found out that my boyfriend couldn't make a bootycall last night, I had to gild the lily to get to sleep.

I’m pretty sure that’s the definition @Buce meant.

Absolutely disgraceful. Unfortunately I can't say I'm surprised he'd say such a thing.

Not sure what to do tomorrow really. Driving in snow/ice doesn’t bother me one bit, but I’ve fallen out of love with work at the moment so it’s a great excuse not to go in. On the other hand, I could do with the pay and I know loads won’t turn in tomorrow so there’s an opportunity to play the hero a bit ?

For me there's no choice. Not being a teacher, my workplace will be open for business and I will be expected to be there - even if I have to walk in

I’m a plumber so we’re bound to be busy with call outs etc

My mate has his own plumbing business. He used to love this time of year - he'd literally be rubbing his hands together at the first cold snap!

I’m not walking over 100 miles, I’ll probably leave out in the morning but if traffic is crap, I’ll turn round and go home.
