Ice on our local untreated roads cost me £400.

Turned from a slushy main road into ours on Sunday evening (it was a necessary journey) and hit ice at a fairly low speed. Our road at this junction slopes away to the right a little and the car just went. Forget ABS and anti-skid protection, there was nothing I could do. The front off-side wheel hit the kerb with some force and subsequently my steering was way out of line.

I thought I'd shifted the tracking so took it to the tyre place yesterday, they checked it and it turns out both lower suspension arms on the driver side were bent. 400 sodding pounds FFS!!!!

I'm not far from you DT.

Apparently it'll be -9º down here tonight. You gotta admit, that's pretty cold! :o

I'm just outside of Aylesbury and sister lives in High Wycombe and can confirm its pretty cold and snowy in this part of the country! We're just not used to it either. Getting around any B road or village is a mission, especially hilly ones.

Well I made it down sarf yesterday in 3 hours, ...   no drama, no delays, no crashes or slides ...   and amazingly wasn't attacked by any giant snowmen ..  :o.    Been outside since just before dawn ...   just had a quick bacon sausage and egg sandwich from Ali's roadside grill and back out in 20 minutes till sundown.   Spect most of you are still at home looking at all that scary white stuff  through the window ...

Meh.

When you’ve dug a snow-hole shelter on a mountain to escape a blizzard, get back to me.

When the weather is like this it makes me even more inclined to sell my BMW!

On Sunday I had to abandon it on the A5 as it wouldn't make it up a slight incline. Yesterday I collected it and trying to get down my road was horrendous! The back end was constantly skidding out & with cars parked on the road either side of the street I was fearing a costly claim from many drivers on my insurance :sweating:

Reversing does actually seem to work more! Just buggered if anything comes the other way as the roads only big enough for one car at a time so then I'd have to attempt to drive back up the hill lol

The worrying thing is that we haven't actually had much snow in Leicester and it hasn't been that cold, so heaven knows how we would cope with a real dump (of snow) and really cold temperatures.

People seem to be struggling now, so let's hope we don't have anymore of the white stuff as I don't know we'll manage to survive.

Couple of bags of sand in the boot will do the trick.

I have had 2 bmw’s and every time we had a bit of snow I’d just put a bag or two of sand in the boot. Awful cars in the snow.

it's this aftermath of the snow that I dislike. Love when it snows but I hate when it ices up and makes things dangerous on pavements which haven't been gritted.

Was so bad in the car park at work today. had not one ounce of grit on it and so it was terribly slippery. I know it's part and parcel of what happens when it snows but still very inconvenient and uncomfortable!

Bog standard survival technique, CF.

Bear would have probably fashioned a two-storey igloo complete with Jacuzzi, and built a fire out of the snow.

Been there and done that, 1994 heavy snow turning into a small side road at less than 10mph, wheels turned right, car went straight for the curb, so said turned wheel whacked it and pulled the lower arms, anti roll bar and a few other bits, driving it after that was an experience as the slightest pot hole or cat eye pulled the car a foot over the road, plus one front tyre lost most of it's tread as they were miles out, got it to the garage and had a bill like you so I feel your pain.

Very easily done when the wheels are turned as its a weak point for head on impact.

Not even attempted to drive my bmw last two days, got lifts to and from work

On Sunday I attempted to drive mine. Literally drove less than 10m, got stuck and thankfully was able to reverse it back lol.
