leftsideoverhere Posted 20 March 2009 Posted 20 March 2009 Yeah, Alf, you're right. Don't know why I thought it would take three wins. Two (or one and and Oldham slip up) will be enough. Somehow I seemed to have an extra team in there somewhere that could catch us, but there isn't one!
Koke Posted 20 March 2009 Posted 20 March 2009 If we win our remaining games, we'll get promoted. I promise you that. Honest.
Corky Posted 20 March 2009 Posted 20 March 2009 Are we safe from relegation yet? That's all that matters, the main aim at the start of the season. Well?
Nationwider Posted 20 March 2009 Posted 20 March 2009 Are we safe from relegation yet? That's all that matters, the main aim at the start of the season. Administration, a couple of unregistered players, a pitch invasion turns nasty.... we are still potentially on the brink of disaster.

Corky Posted 20 March 2009 Posted 20 March 2009 Administration, a couple of unregistered players, a pitch invasion turns nasty.... we are still potentially on the brink of disaster. But we'll still have enough to survive though?
Asha Posted 20 March 2009 Posted 20 March 2009 Are we safe from relegation yet? That's all that matters, the main aim at the start of the season. Providing no-one tries to put an England flag up. Racist twats, they could potentially offend millions, forcing Fifa to act. Automatic relegation.
Alf Bentley Posted 20 March 2009 Posted 20 March 2009 Administration, a couple of unregistered players, a pitch invasion turns nasty.... we are still potentially on the brink of disaster. Too right, not to mention the prospect of having 100 points deducted as the only team ever to field 4 ineligible loanee keepers in the same match...
Nationwider Posted 20 March 2009 Posted 20 March 2009 Too right, not to mention the prospect of having 100 points deducted as the only team ever to field 4 ineligible loanee keepers in the same match... It's only a matter of time before Kevin Poole's back. That would be the icing on the League One cake.
Ultra Posted 20 March 2009 Posted 20 March 2009 Well, we must be the most restrained and civilised fans of a title-winning side if we do not invade the pitch on the day we clinch promotion. Forest did and they finished runners-up. West Brom do it at every opportunity they have been promoted and have i mentioned Stoke? I would be very disappointed if we did not cosidering the achievement of this season. Some fans i feel do not credit the team's efforts and exploits this year. We have bucked the trend of a relegated side in League One getting promoted at the first attempt. If it was that easy, why did Manchester City, Sheffield Wednesday, Leeds and Forest fail in their quest. Come on and lets celebrate in style! Wow, yet another L Block keyboard warrior... You can't even be trusted to stand your ground with Leeds, let alone have it with plod and the stewards to go on the pitch..

He's not mentioned anything vaguely along the lines of hooliganism and look at you, bet your fingers can't hit the keyboard quick enough when a chance comes along to slag off L1. Grow up.

Lillehamring Posted 21 March 2009 Posted 21 March 2009 UPDATED. LCFC 82pts + 21: 103 Pboro 75pts + 21: 96 MK 68 + 27: 95 Millwall 70 + 24: 94 Leeds 62 + 27: 89 Scunny 64 + 24: 88 Tranny 62 + 21: 83 i think the key result probably was the dons dropping more points, they have the worst form of the chasing pack currently, PB, MW and leeds are all averaging over 2points a game on current form
syston_fox Posted 21 March 2009 Posted 21 March 2009 So 5 wins from our remaining 8 games and it's mathematically certain.... and that's assuming Posh win all their remaining games including beating us on next week.... I think.
Legend_in_blue Posted 21 March 2009 Posted 21 March 2009 Name the five - I can't see it. Carlisle at home and Hereford away - yes, the rest, a lottery.
syston_fox Posted 21 March 2009 Posted 21 March 2009 Name the five - I can't see it. Carlisle at home and Hereford away - yes, the rest, a lottery. If Ive worked this out right.... Assuming Peterborough win every game (so we lose on sat) - 5 wins from 7 Draw on sat - 4 wins from 7 Win on Sat - 3 Wins from 7 That's to finish above Posh and surely guarentee at least second place.
ThorpeAstleyFox Posted 21 March 2009 Posted 21 March 2009 We require 14 points from the remaining 7 games to guarantee promotion (for the record before today we required 16 points from 8 games). That said 84 points would have been enough to secure automatic promotion every season for the past 7 seasons so I don't feel any need to panic. Anybody saying that they can't see where we're going to pick up 5 wins is just plain stupid as the chasing pack are certainly not going to win all of their remaining fixtures.

I don't know I haven't looked at the League One table for the past 7 seasons, but surely as a whole this year's League One has been tighter and the playoff places and automatic promotion places point's tally is closer together, throwing the last 7 seasons League One/Division Two form out of the window. That said - And I hope I don't come back to regret saying this I think many people are worrying and doubting for the sake of it. There is worry and doubt in my mind, but for the moment minimal. A win next week and everyone will be celebrating once again saying we are up, then if we draw or lose the following week everyone will be down again.

Exactly - just look at some of the fixtures over the next few weeks 28 March Leeds v MK Dons Peterborough v Leicester 31 March Millwall v Colchester 13 April Leicester v Leeds Millwall v Peterborough MK Dons v Bristol Rovers Lots of tricky games so no one is going to win all their remaining games. So many twists and turns to come along the way.

It's really annoying if Leeds did that aswell because they seem to have lost loads of games and had a really shit season, yet we have only lost 3 all season, and we're still looking over our shoulders, I suppose we have drew a fair few games but I would have a guess Leeds have lost and drew more than us at a guess.

So many twists and turns to come along the way. You're right about the twists and turns. I'd love to think that we power through to the title, and we won't be relying on other teams to see us over the line, but current form and today's performance would suggest otherwise - Peterboro and Millwall have closed 6 points each on us in the last 6 games - and the Peterborough game next week will depend on which mindset our players turn up in. I think it's going to be an absolutely fascinating run-in. Indeed Millwall V Peterborough could be critical to our automatic promotion chances if we lose next week - we could be hoping for either team to get 3 points by then... I can see a full house v S****horpe in a few Fridays time, and that we'll still have something to play for in that game.

iancognito Posted 21 March 2009 Posted 21 March 2009 The only thing that worries me is IF we lose to Peterborough next week. The four point gap (5 if we include the GD) suddenly doesn't look as unbreachable and the players start looking over their shoulders. I'd have taken a four point lead 7 months ago but with Leeds still to come it's all down to next week. Win it and we can get the flags out. Lose it and it's squeaky bum time.

We have lost three games all season, we would need to lose three out of the last seven to be caught. Last season Forest went up in second place with 82 points so I think we are already there, a couple more wins and we are champions!!
