James. Posted 24 March 2009 Posted 24 March 2009 If we finish only 3 points above 3rd I am going to be unimpressed. Current form also suggests a 3 point gap.
StanSP Posted 24 March 2009 Posted 24 March 2009 If we finish only 3 points above 3rd I am going to be unimpressed. But we'll finish first I don't care if the gap between us and 3rd is one point, as long as we go up.
C-man Posted 24 March 2009 Posted 24 March 2009 If we finish only 3 points above 3rd I am going to be unimpressed. Why? It just means that the top 3/4 have had exceptional seasons.
lcfc_jme Posted 24 March 2009 Posted 24 March 2009 but, based on us getting 93, posh would have to improve on their form of 5 wins from the last 6 to surpass us, in fact, unless GD changed dramatically, they would have to win 6 and draw 1 of their remaining 7 games...so i'd take your prediction, right now... I never said 93 points would be a bad return! Peterborough have it in them to win 6 and draw 1 of their remaining games. Not playing all that brilliantly but still managing to win by the odd goal. A bit like how we were approaching the middle of the season, really. I like the statistics I've just read whereby on current form staying the same until the end of the season we'll still win the league. I'd just like it to be a little less nervy, that's all.

Final table based on continuation of form from last 6 games:1 Leicester City 92.5 2 Peterborough United 92.5 3 Millwall 90 4 Leeds United 83.64 5 S****horpe United 78.64 6 Milton Keynes Dons 78.53 7 Tranmere Rovers 73.69 8 Southend United 72 9 Colchester United 66 10 Bristol Rovers 64.5 11 Oldham Athletic 63.36 12 Walsall 63.31 13 Stockport County 61.81 14 Huddersfield Town 56.36 15 Northampton Town 54.3 16 Leyton Orient 54 17 Crewe Alexandra 52.64 18 Swindon Town 51.64 19 Carlisle United 50 20 Hartlepool United 47.69 21 Yeovil Town 41.97 22 Cheltenham Town 40.97 23 Brighton and Hove A 39.5 24 Hereford United 35
Legend_in_blue Posted 24 March 2009 Posted 24 March 2009 Anything other than top will be a really big disappointment for me. I couldn't believe the comments on the radio last night. 'Well, getting promotion is key...', '2nd will do...', 'I don't care how, just do...' etc etc. Utter nonsense. We are the biggest club in this division and if we're going to make any sort of impact next season we need to send a message of intent. There's no "prizes" for finishing second in my eyes. Scraping through doesn't cut it for me. We need to be convincing, commited, clinical, determined and show that we're up for it. As things are at the moment, there is a danger that we will finish second best. Not good enough.

Matt Posted 24 March 2009 Posted 24 March 2009 One game doesnt decide the title.Personally i couldnt give a fcuk if we are 1st or 2nd. However i think we'll win on Sat. It does to be fair, This game maybe not, but sooner of later one win will decide who wins the titles, therefore one game will and does decide the title, abit tedious but true. Promotion is the priority and at the start of the season if you offered me 2nd place i'd have took it because tbh I was expecting playoffs to a minor push for the automatic places so to be where we are i'm very happy, but to have been top virtually all season to only throw top spot away at this fairly late stage would be gutting.

We are the biggest club in this division and if we're going to make any sort of impact next season we need to send a message of intent. ... except that we're all pretty much agreed that the team which gets us promotion this season will not be the team which takes the field next year. What we do in league one is not about next year, it's about getting out of league one. So this... There's no "prizes" for finishing second in my eyes. ... is also wrong, I think. There is a massive prize: promotion back to the CCC. Obviously getting there as champions will help us all feel better, but between the fans who say nothing less than top spot will do, and those who were arguing against us celebrating because the club are "too big" for league one, it really seems like there's nothing the team can do to satisfy some of us. As things are at the moment, there is a danger that we will finish second best. Not good enough. Well, yeah, it would be. We'd still be where we wanted to be for next season. I still think we're most likely going to get there as champions, but I'm relaxed about how we get promoted, just so long as we get out of this division at the first attempt. I'd even take a Wembley win, if necessary! From where we are now that would be a disappointment, of course, but from where we were last May, the current position is 'wildest dreams' territory. Let's not do ourselves down. We've got a lot to live up to in terms of tradition and so on, but we're in the league we deserved to be in, based on last year's performances. So were 23 other clubs. They're all now below us, and that's a big acheivement, and when we get promoted that will be deserved too.
Webbo Posted 24 March 2009 Posted 24 March 2009 Can we all stop over reacting please. We're 7 points clear, if we lose on Saturday we'll still be 4 points clear. Peterborough/MK Dons/Leeds aren't going to win all their games either. Lighten up.
ThorpeAstleyFox Posted 24 March 2009 Posted 24 March 2009 Using BBC predictor I got: 1. Leicester City 94 2. Millwall 94 ________________ 3. Peterborough United 89 4. MK Dons 88 5. Leeds United 87 6. S****horpe 80 I'd take that!
CosbehFox Posted 24 March 2009 Posted 24 March 2009 So you're implying that Millwall will win every game bar one? The predictor is a red herring because you know they will be hiccups along the way. If you strip it down, P'boro need to win all but 2 of their games to make it second and 'Wall and Dons need similar efforts.
Lillehamring Posted 24 March 2009 Posted 24 March 2009 UPDATED MAXIMUMS - not taking into account games within these teams LCFC 82pts + 21: 103 Pboro 75pts + 21: 96 Millwall 70 + 24: 94 MK 69 + 24: 93 Leeds 62 + 27: 89 Scunny 64 + 24: 88 Tranny 62 + 21: 83
Jordan Posted 25 March 2009 Posted 25 March 2009 MKDons's draw only lowers City's "magic number" for promotion by one to 13because the the first dropped point makes Millwall the new third-placed team. So, when's it going to happen, then? If all of the results go Leicester's way, promotion could actually be sealed by 5 p.m. on April 4

Erm..no it doesnt actually!!!
Lillehamring Posted 25 March 2009 Posted 25 March 2009 it's interesting to consider that a few people on here have been critical of our home form, yet i've just checked and we are actually unbeaten in our last 17 home games, conceeding just 11 goals... if we can sustain that until the end of the season, we will probably only need to win, at most, 2 away games to go up...
crafty fox Posted 25 March 2009 Author Posted 25 March 2009 what we dont need is IF we get a bad result on saturday then the atmosphere at the way for the carlisle home game must be posititve or tension will creep in amongst the players, and knowing city fans this will happen. got to stay positive i personally aint cacking it yet because most people didnt think we would get much at the den and we did so no reason why saturday shouldnt be the same, a draw will be a great result for us also.
harpendenfox Posted 25 March 2009 Posted 25 March 2009 Statto forget work today FTers, just enjoy the world of Statto, which suggests that we need a single point more to go up second
Lillehamring Posted 25 March 2009 Posted 25 March 2009 Stattoforget work today FTers, just enjoy the world of Statto, which suggests that we need a single point more to go up second well, it's not so implausible really, our points are in the bag, the chasing pack pretty much know they can't really afford to lose from now on - i don't think anyone fancies a playoff... so that is a massive amount of pressure they are under....
davieG Posted 25 March 2009 Posted 25 March 2009 And two trips to the NE - maybe http://www.statto.com/football/stats/england
Pegosteve Posted 25 March 2009 Posted 25 March 2009 well, it's not so implausible really, our points are in the bag, the chasing pack pretty much know they can't really afford to lose from now on - i don't think anyone fancies a playoff... so that is a massive amount of pressure they are under.... Totally agree assume we can manage 9 points out of remaining games (if we dont we dont deserve to go up!) That gives us 91 points only 3 teams can catch us but can only afford to do the following Peterboro - Can only drop 5 points - 1 loss and 1 draw Millwall - Can only drop 3 points - 1 loss MK - Can only drop 2 points - 2 draws 2 out of these 3 teams need to go on really good runs in order to catch us. Its not going to happen especially as Peterboro and Milwall have to play each other a draw between these 2 would be the best result. Also remember Peterboro and Millwall are no where near us on goal difference so really 1 extra point to us. I think whoever finishes 3rd will have no more than 87 points. Only once in the history of 3 points for a win has 90 points been needed to secure promotion from this division. Keep the faith its not a question of if but when!

It would make that afternoon / night even more epic than it's going to be. *obv it won't happen but it'd be brililant.*
