David Guiza Posted 19 April 2009 Posted 19 April 2009 Not at Centre back, he's not fit to tie to Tunchev and Hobbs's Boots , He's a better right back then Gilbert though.
The Bear Posted 20 April 2009 Posted 20 April 2009 His best position has clearly been identified as a centre backAs a right-back he's dire in my opinion. Correct on both counts. He got dropped because he made a couple of mistakes at a time when the team was going through a bad spell. He was a bit unlucky really. When he and Mancienne played as a partnership they were excellent. No idea if he'll be a regular for us in the Prem. Jody Craddock certainly won't be so it will be Stearman and Berra unless we buy somebody else. Not sure if you have a promotion clause in your sale to us either. Probably, it seems the norm these days.
Unabomber Posted 20 April 2009 Posted 20 April 2009 When you think about what we sold him and Mcauley for and what we got Tunchev,Morrison,Hobbs,Gilbert,Brown for (even though some are loans) it shows how much the level of management and staff has improved dramatically.

Stearman, Hume and McAuley brought in over £4 million. And when Nigel and friends arrived, I think we've spent £800k on The Tunch and a few red pennies on Morrison. The rest have been loanees and freebies - Excellent management by Nigel and his staff.

I agree. The players brought in are more than capable. Tunchev cost something like £800,000...whereas Stearman went for about £1.5 Million and like Scoweh said, Tunch is twice the player.
TrickyTrev Posted 20 April 2009 Posted 20 April 2009 Michael Morrison a better player than Stearman? Will you lot please behave. I'd take him back no question asked, he's a class act at both right back and centre back. Was one of our best players in two of the three seasons he played for us. Doubt Wolves will be looking to offload him however.
Fox92 Posted 20 April 2009 Posted 20 April 2009 Don't want him back. He was part of the team that got us relegated and let us 'rot' in this league so why don't we just let him 'rot' in the reserves. Besides, the current defenders are [and capable] of exceeding Stearman's talent, escpecially if we snap Hobbs up perminant. As well as him, what about Hume? I hope Barnsley get relegated and then we have over took him - he should have stayed here and he wouldn't have had a accident with Morgan as well. We can also 'boo' McAuley when he comes back with Ipswich. Gareth McAuley to Ipswich - did he go for something like £1.5million? Richard Stearman to Wolves - he went for something in the region of £1.8million didn't he? Alex Tunchex to Leicester - £800,000 Micheal Morrison to Leicester - Free? Hobbs, Gilbert to Leicester - Loan Made some right money there and Tunchev, Hobbs, Morrison and Gilbert are better players.
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 20 April 2009 Posted 20 April 2009 He was crap for us. I wouldn't habe him back for free! Agreed.
danny. Posted 20 April 2009 Posted 20 April 2009 when he could be bothered, he was a good player - and I would have that stearman back. He was only that player maybe 25% of the time though, so overall, no thanks.
Filbert_Ross Posted 20 April 2009 Posted 20 April 2009 no thanks. Joe Mattock will turn into Stearman before long too.
General Smuts Posted 20 April 2009 Posted 20 April 2009 Who gives a fook about the money. Stearman is a ****.
FilboFox Posted 20 April 2009 Posted 20 April 2009 I agree with the vast majority of people on here... I don't really want him back here. He was error prone and for the most part looked utterly disinterested in our suffering and like he was just counting the days to him leaving. So as far as I'm concerned, he can stay gone!
Mr Happy Posted 20 April 2009 Posted 20 April 2009 Stearman, Macauley, McCarthy...Those three names I'd never want to see back. At the time, the general consensus was that they were all pretty solid. Now off the back of a great season, albeit at a lower level, we'd much rather have Hobbs, Tunchev, Brown, Morrison, (Kisnorbo) ... To me that is testiment to how well these players have performed. Former players don't cut it, they're never the same. For me we have a set of the strongest CBs we've had at the club for a few years, all that's needed is a set of attacking RBs. Gilbert one of these and someone else. Exactly, just look at Dickheadov As for Stearman I wouldn't bring him back, we did perfectly well this season without him and we will do just as well this coming season without him. I think Morrison made a better temporary right back than Stearz ever was.
wirralsimon Posted 21 April 2009 Posted 21 April 2009 I wouldn't be pushing to have him back as signing ex-players rarely works, but if NP is keen I would trust his judgement as he hasn't got too much wrong so far. Simon
lou Posted 21 April 2009 Posted 21 April 2009 He was apparently out with the current players last night after the POTY do, a guy at work reckons his mate told him ... and wants to come back....... GET LOST!
Monk Posted 21 April 2009 Posted 21 April 2009 I don't think Stearman's as bad as some of you are making out. He did us a service and I think he loved the club while he was here. For me he can never come back because like Hume he was part of that losing setup.

He loved this club so much he couldnt get out the door fast enough Hes just not good enough for us now... weve got better defenders than him

Exactly even in a losing team you have 'favourites', best of a bad bunch, e.t.c, at the end of the day though they are all losers. (In Leicester's history anyway)
Thracian Posted 21 April 2009 Posted 21 April 2009 I've always quite rated Stearman, despite finding him careless or frustrating at times and would have liked to see him in a better side because the City team he played in was never going to much help anyone. It was a pity City never played him as a first team centre-back, especially as I never much rated Kisnorbo or McAuley, but whether he would displace Tunchev, Hobbs or Brown I'd doubt. And, if he didn't, that would just leave right-back as his likely "residence" a position where he was one of our most consistnet performers, albeit in a wretched side. I'm not much for going backwards or having old boys return and Dickov's contribution this season only strengthens the point. But on balance, and assuming Pearson couldn't find better, the move might work. I'd prefer him to Gilbert and, of course, he would be cover at centre-back, something we've badly needed at times this season. That might be important considering that I'm still less than convinced that Tunchev will ever be the player he was pre-injury.
Koke Posted 21 April 2009 Posted 21 April 2009 If he came back he would be behind Tunch and Hobbs in the pecking order anyway. And he is very poor at RB. I don't see much point in going back in for him, really. We have better players now and ex-players coming back rarely works.
