dandannieldanok Posted 4 May 2009 Posted 4 May 2009 Jonjo Shelvey would be amazing but looks like he'll probably be Premiership bound... Completely forgot about him, yes he'd be brilliant but as you say Prem-bound.
Blue Foxes Posted 4 May 2009 Posted 4 May 2009 Just read on the BBC and i think Swansea's keeper Dorus De Vries' contract is coming to an end with them and he hasn't signed a new contract yet. Anyone know if he's any good? Swansea haven't conceded a huge amount of goals this season (50).

Word is contract talks have been ongoing for some time, I think it's all to do with money as you can imagine. Swansea fans seem to think he'll sign eventually though, so I doubt he'll leave there really.
FoxesFan123 Posted 4 May 2009 Posted 4 May 2009 Sammy Clingan also seems like Premiership quality, too good for us unfortunatley. Think Fulham want him

Pricey Posted 4 May 2009 Posted 4 May 2009 Nathan 'The Duke' Ellington and Leroy Lita Either of those would be good . I'm surprised Tamas Priskin hasn't been talked about, I think he'd be decent and a realistic target.
Dan Posted 4 May 2009 Posted 4 May 2009 Jason Demetriou. Good shout. Howard improved greatly over the course of the season. It just shows that Cox is considered a much better player than Fryatt, which he is. How does it prove anything? Cox may be a better player but Fryatt was linked with Wolves for £2mil in January. Also the fact that Mandaric said hes not going at any price may have put people off him, and onto players like Cox who is at a dead-end tinpot club that are going nowhere. Teams like Celtic have much better chance of getting Cox, so they go for him.
Mort Posted 4 May 2009 Posted 4 May 2009 All aboard the Leroy Lita bandwagon... Lita’s got an attitude but Nige is just the sort of manager who could channel that... while Ellington can perform if he’s got the direction and the right players around him, having said that it’d be worth taking a look at other ‘big men’ as we shouldn’t be looking to rely solely on Howard... perhaps worth looking at Nugent (not as though he’s appreciated in value since moving to Pompey)? Before strikers, keepers is the big area we need to tackle... at the moment with Hendo off and Logan being (rightly) given the boot we’ve got no one. Can’t say I know enough about Davis to say if he's the answer for us. Despite a promising start, we never saw enough of Bunn to really know how good he’d have been. Stockdale has been sound although I’ve no idea if he’d cut it in the Championship, but from what I’ve seen I think he’d be ok. It’d be good to bring Gilbert and Cleverly back, either on loan or on permanent deals (only a realistic prospect with Gilbert), which brings a bit more bite to midfield and completes the back four. If Mattock is on his way and there is any chance of bringing in Bale on loan we should go for it. With some more firepower up front, firming up the back four and ensuring that we retain some of the key players from this season, we’re probably left with the chance to either bring in some younger players on loan or perhaps someone more proven... although with Clemence and Oakley both in the squad next season do we really need more experience? Perhaps on the wing, but cant see the point in bring in yet more centre mid fielders as with King, Oakley and Clemence we have a pretty decent group already. ...rambling, rant over.
Dan Posted 4 May 2009 Posted 4 May 2009 Right back - Yassin Moutaouakil from Charlton, apparently a top young right back. + Shelvey would be signing of the season, only problem is that he will probably play for England before he plays against Leicester (unless its cup)
DJ Barry Hammond Posted 4 May 2009 Posted 4 May 2009 ... perhaps worth looking at Nugent (not as though he’s appreciated in value since moving to Pompey)? Finally someone else thats mentioned Nugent - a forgotten man at Pompy, being played out on the wing, yet he's proven at Championship level to be a deadly striker. There is an issue in getting his confidence back, but if Nige can do the trick with Fryatt, surely he can pull of that master stroke again? I have my fingers crossed that this is one player Pearson is considering making a move for.
Ric Flair Posted 5 May 2009 Posted 5 May 2009 If we are serious about making the top ten next season, we need a striker with real quality. For us to get one of those we either need to go for a striker who has lost his way, but has produced the goods in the past (Ellington, always wanted to see him at Leicester) or we take a gamble on someone unproven and hope we strike lucky. Thankfully, Pearson and Walsh seem to be unearthing some decent and astute players for us and that will need to continue even more so for next year. I'd look abroad, rather than pay £2 million or so for Simon Cox, Ricky Lambert etc.
The Blur Posted 5 May 2009 Posted 5 May 2009 I always mention same player in this type thread Sherjii McDonald- scored like 9 in 11 for Hereford at League One level- convert that into about 5 or 6 in 11 at Championship and that is quality strike rate
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 5 May 2009 Posted 5 May 2009 He will be quiet expensive, is Col U's best player and earlier on in the season was being touted as a 1M player. Whats the problem with a tag of one million? If we are to challenge for the Premiership then we have to spend BIG money. Anyone who thinks we can do this without heavy investment must be bloody crazy. If we went into the Championship with the team we have now, or players like them. we will go nowhere. Lets not bury our heads in the sand, just because we have achieved so much this season. We HAVE to up the anti, or suffer the consequences.
FoxesFan123 Posted 5 May 2009 Posted 5 May 2009 Beerschot snap up MacDonald Sherjill MacDonald has left West Brom and agreed to join Belgian side Germinal Beerschot on a four-year contract
martyn Posted 5 May 2009 Posted 5 May 2009 Jason Demetriou is a decent shout, though likely to cost £1m+ i would have thought. Would love a bit of Jack Wilshere or Adel Taarabt if we could somehow get them on loan.
