(Daily Mail) Ipswich and Leicester are battling for the signature of Lincoln winger Dany N'Guessan. (The Sun) Need knowitall back to inform us about whats going on with Cox. Theres been no news linking us and him in days. if they want over 2 million for cox then we have no chance of getting him which is a real shame it depends on milan & how far he will go with his pennies if keane is in for n'guessan then that dont look good either have ipswich come into a lot of money all of a sudden????????

They've had the money for two years, since Marcus Evans took control. Jim Magilton was fired for spending a lot of money (£12million in those two seasons if I remember correctly) and achieving nothing with it.

And Ipswich are a much smaller club that Leicester. Keane spent what, £70m at Sunderland took them to the vertigo inducing heights of 18th place... whatever Keane.

I'd have thought with his scouting network and contact pearson prob has 2 or 3 alternatives to cox. Ones that will be prob less than half of the 2 million being touted around.

He could turn out to be an absolute gem with a huge sell-on value. £2m could prove to be a good investment in the long run. Obviously it'd be a risk, but I'd trust our management to determine whether or not he's worth that. It's the going rate for a good striker these days surely? Especially a young, English one.

I think you are right, when i said over priced i meant in leicesters case, as i don't think we'd pay that for one player. i May be wrong.

Others strikers have pissed League 1 before. Freddy Eastwood, Billy Sharp, Luke Varney and our very own Matty Fryatt. Eastwood is at Cov and can't score to save his fucking life. But as you say, I trust our management team. I'm just still not over this DJ Campbell debacle 2 years ago and how MM was so eager to get him here. I sense a bit of deja vu here to be honest.

morris1234 Posted 19 May 2009 Posted 19 May 2009 whilst i agree, i still dont see how Cox and fryatt would fit into the same team... fair point and i can understand why you think that but i disagree, its competition for places and i think our problem over the last few season perhaps has been predictability. we dont have to play with a target man, i think fryatt provides finesse and the ability to draw defenders tight to him because facing the goal he is dangerous where as cox is different, he is most dangerous when playing on the shoulder of the defender. however howard plays a different game aswell, yes he looks for space but he purposefully causes problems for the defenders by in a way following them and getting in there face to basically ensure they can not have an easy game and therefore cant hold a particularly high line and cant build attacks from the back as you regularly see the uniteds and arsenals of this world do. i think if it were to happen, any combination of cox, fryatt, howard and maybe even another striker (if dickov isnt involved) would be a new option which could in essence create many different probles for any teams. that set up would be similar to wolves this season, iwelumo is the big man, SEB the man on the shoulder and andy keogh acts as the playmaker.

May be that's why things have gone a little quiet. I trust Pearson and the management team he has around him. If Swindon have dug their heels in over the price, it may have caused Pearson to back off and look at other targets. I'm certain that Nigel has an idea of what he is worth and may be his potential is less than the alledged 2m mark in his eyes. As you say, it's a big risk, something that Pearson doesn't take.

Surely it doesn't matter to us what MM pays as it aint our money and it is accepted his addition would be benificial for the squad.
