Anyone know what the record for no. of games in a final is?

think they just said it's broken the record for the longest set in a final although i may have misheard!

Longest fifth set: At Wimbledon in 2007, Marcelo Melo/André Sá beat Paul Hanley/Kevin Ullyett 5–7, 7–6, 4–6, 7–6, 28–26.

Brilliant match by two brilliant players. Shame Roddick couldnt win but hat's off to Fed he is Mr. Cool, when Roddick had two break points I really thought he was going to take them but Fed knows how to save them. Andy Roddick didnt lose his serve in 38 service games! Impressive. He will still be kicking himself about the second set tie-break. I honestly dont think Murray would of been able to of took Fed to five sets.

All n all a brilliant championships and I think the right man won it. Hopefully Murray can comeback next year and win it.

Really wanted Roddick to win. He was brilliant throughout except the second set tiebreak which he threw away. I felt so sorry for Roddick after the way he played, he couldn't have done any more.

Still, hats off to Federer. He was nowhere near his best but his fitness and focus was the difference. In my opinion that win just cements his claim to be the best player ever.

Feel so sorry for Roddick, he deserved that title and played better than Federer, in the end he just got tired and hit some loose shots in that final set.

Federer has 15 grand glams, Roddick has 1. When Roddick won that Us Open he became number one in the world and looked all set to win plenty for majors, then Federer came along and ruined it for him.

Had Federer not arrived Roddick would have won many more majors, he played a stunning match, managed to break Federers serve and he will be gutted.

Had he won that tie-break at 6-2, and just put that easy volley away that he somehow missed, he would have 100% won that match.

He would have almost certainly forced 2 tie breakers in the 3rd and 4th sets had he won the second, and quite possibly would have broke Federer like he did in the 4th.

Roddick should have, could have, and would have won had he not got tired in that 16-14 final set, and i don't think he will get a better chance to win a Wimbledon title.

Nadals back next year, there are other players coming along well, there is so much depth to the mens game it is great to watch.

The womens game however is fooking shit.

Nadal might not be back next year, even if he is you don't know if he'll be the same player, he's havig major problems with his knees because of his style

This has certainly been one of the best tournaments we've had for a few years!

Felt so sorry for A-Rod. Having played such a brilliant match, it must have been so gutting for him to slowly come to terms with knowing he was going to lose as he got more and more tired as the 5th set went on.

I don't think he meant to sound smug but Federer did come across as a bit unsympathetic in the interview after the game saying he 'knew how Roddick felt because of last year', completely ignoring the fact he'd won 5 in a row previous to last year. I would have been a tad annoyed if I was Roddick.

I didn't think Fed realised how smug that sounded lol

Roddick was very annoyed, at least he has his catalogue wife.

Roddick should be proud though, he played amazingly well against Hewitt in the quarters who also played well, and in some ways Roddick was lucky to win that match with the way Hewitt came back when he looked down and out injured.

Then to beat Murray was even better.

Wheres Roddick in the world now then, 4th, 5th :dunno: Im assuming he will move up a place or 2 now.

I would think he'll move ahead of Juan Martin Del Potro into 5th, I very much doubt he'll move ahead of Djokovic and into 4th.

Happy with the result, Roddick was very lucky to beat Hewitt, plus I really don't like the bloke.

I've always hated Roddick right from the start i wanted Federer to win, but i wanted to watch a competitive decent 5 setter.

But once it got to the silly scores 10-10 onwards in the 5th, with Roddick chucking the 2nd set away but bouncing back and still not losing his serve, i really wanted him to win.

Such a shame he couldn't take the break points at 40-15 up or the game points at 14-15 in games :P

I think it would have been good for the game for Roddick to win that, and to play that well and lose is so harsh.

Plus the fact he's lost to Fed there twice before, and he only has 1 slam to Feds 14 before todays match, Roger could have let A-Rod have that one :P

I would love to see Roddick win Wimbledon now though, after that performance i don't think he's a complete twat no more.

He just moans at umpires a lot, and has a bit of an attitude. He always thinks he's right when he challenges and doesn't believe hawkeye when he's wrong lol

Hawkeye is the best thing thats ever happened to the game in recent times though, there are so many bad calls, obviously it's very hard to tell when it's that close but sometimes linejudges make ridiculous calls when the ball is well in or out.

Without hawkeye Roddick would have lost that 1st set i think, i don't think he was saved set point by it but without it he would have lost his temper with those calls and started moaning at the umpire.

A classic final, comparable to last year's epic.

Commentators went on about Roddick throwing away the second set, yet ignored the break points Federer had in the first.

In the end, fatigue caught up with Roddick, but it was an immense performance by him and he will be a contender at Flushing Meadow, whether or not Nadal plays there.

Yes but its slightly different, roddick had 4 set points to go 2-0 up.

Great final. Roddick played well, but Federer showed again that he has the shots when it matters most. Saving those Break points so late in the 5th, awesome stuff.

Tennis isnt a massive sport?!

What an idiot you are, there are 4 major tournaments every single year, if you didnt realise that is more than Football, Rugby and the same as Golf. I'm not saying it's a bigger sport than Football but it is a massive sport. How many people watch the four Slams will be unreal and to say it isnt a massive sport proves what tool you are.

Ok Rocky, I meant to say tennis isn't a massive sport in England. Don't know about the rest of the world. You can argue all you want about it being massive, but it aint. 10% max. And that aint massive. Fact

It really wasn't as epic as they made out. They seem to think it automatically is an amazing match as soon as it goes to 5 sets.

Was decent but not a patch on last year. Even though the winner was more to my preference this year. :)
