AyewJoking Posted 3 July 2009 Posted 3 July 2009 Hope Owen passes his medical. Surely Fergie is savvy enough to get the best from him. Would fit in nicely with Uniteds rotation system.
Uncle Albert Posted 3 July 2009 Posted 3 July 2009 I think Michael Owen will be more than happy to fill in the void of Carlos Tevez, start a handful of games a season, come on near enough most games and score 10 goals. Good move for him but I never thought he would move to United being a Liverpool lad. I think United could have done alot better instead of signing Owen there are pleanty more strikers that Fergie could of gone for, saying that he probably still is looking for another. And like Ultra has said this move may benefit England if Owen and Rooney can have a solid partnership.

Highly doubt he'll be first choice. Fergie can't lose with this really.

AjcW Posted 3 July 2009 Posted 3 July 2009 Lets be honest, fergie almost always gets it right, he always sells his players at the right time, Ruud, Ronaldo etc.... and he always seems to bring in the right amount of quality. I personally feel a Michael Owen in a quality side such as united could be almost as good as the young liverpool Owen. And who better to guide him than the best manager around. Perfect move by both parties in my opinion. And also perhaps fitness isnt as much of an issue with Owen anymore, after all he played a big chunk of last season at Newcastle without showing any signs of injury. I do however feel the pace is gone, so they need to find another way of utilising his finishing ability, as I feel he can no longer create his own goals.

Owen's always been a player who thrives on service, and he's always produced the goods from it. If he can stay fit, there's no doubt in my mind that he could get at least 15 goals next season. He's still only 29 too, so hardly past it.
AjcW Posted 3 July 2009 Posted 3 July 2009 Just thought I would start a Man Utd discussion thread. As to were they go after ronaldo and tevez departures and benzema being stolen from under there noses. If any mods want to transfer the Man Utd related owen discussion into here that would be great. I thought of a few points to start with: 1: Will we see a new tactic system at united this season? 2: Signing owen, who next?? Possibly someone like Ashley Young or potentially a young winger from abroad. 3: Can United win the league again this year? 4: Where could United potentially struggle this season? Discuss....

He did used to have that potential to run with the ball at his feet and score goals though which I feel he has lost...

Uncle Albert Posted 3 July 2009 Posted 3 July 2009 I always thought Owen was an Everton fan.... I didn't mean it in that sense but I don't think he was an Everton fan. McManaman, Carragher and Fowler were. I mean how succesful he was at Liverpool winning the amount of trophies and awards he won and being their hero for so many seasons, I didnt think he would ever play for United.
AjcW Posted 3 July 2009 Posted 3 July 2009 Try here if you're so keen http://www.google.co.uk/search?source=ig&a...mp;aq=f&oq= Why is there a man city thread then???
AyewJoking Posted 3 July 2009 Posted 3 July 2009 Great move for him & England! We should be seeing him for England soon Form is temporary, class is permanent If youre talking about Owens form, how long is temporary??? And class, years ago he had class but I dont think he'll reach those heights ever again.
Uncle Albert Posted 3 July 2009 Posted 3 July 2009 On his day Michael Owen is still one of the best finisher's in English football, maybe even world football.
Kilworthfox Posted 3 July 2009 Posted 3 July 2009 If youre talking about Owens form, how long is temporary???And class, years ago he had class but I dont think he'll reach those heights ever again. Time will tell
davieG Posted 3 July 2009 Posted 3 July 2009 Why is there a man city thread then??? Because there is and they were linked to many players, Man U have been linked to Owen and we have a thread on it.
Guest Bilo Posted 3 July 2009 Posted 3 July 2009 In all fairness, if Owen has a clear run with injuries and gets the service, there should be no reason why he won't score 20+ goals a season. Four years ago, most defences in the Premiership would have bricking themselves over a Rooney-Owen partnership. Owen was awful at Newcastle, but that was the worst Newcastle team seen since their promotion to the Premiership in 1993. He also had shocking luck with injuries, the worst being the one he picked up on England duty. If he gets back fighting fit, he could well roll back the years. Best of luck to the bloke I say.
Finnegan Posted 3 July 2009 Posted 3 July 2009 I don't think Owen's injury problems are bad luck, his body's just knackered. Overused from a young age. He's football's Johnny Wilkinson. If he gets a season without a major injury it's more likely to be that he's lucky than he's unlucky if he, say, pulls his hamstring in September. England's just cursed.
Koke Posted 3 July 2009 Posted 3 July 2009 So they get rid of Saha and get Owen whos injury record is just as bad. Strange move.
Corky Posted 3 July 2009 Posted 3 July 2009 Oh dear oh dear, sold Ronaldo now possibly getting Owen. Well it's not a direct replacement is it? Good move for Owen if it happens, always rated him as a goalscorer and with quality service he should score regularly. Just depends on if he stays fit really.
purpleronnie Posted 3 July 2009 Posted 3 July 2009 I cant see him being used that much surely he'll be like tevez and come off the bench, not a bad player to come on as long as he can be injury free it will be a good signing.
Koke Posted 3 July 2009 Posted 3 July 2009 Someone Newcastle fan on a Newcastle forum wrote this. And I think he's pretty spot on, to be perfectly honest. What truly baffles me is that he's spent 4 years being utterly shit and spectacularly injury prone with us which is just about 1/3 of his proffesional career and he is still considered "world class" in so many circles, pundits, commentators, journalists all think hes still ace for some reason, it was through what should have been his peak as well 25-29, but if you take it out of his whole career and look at just his time with us 71 appearances and 26 goals in 4 years gets down to about 18 appearances 6-7 goals per season which is utter dog shit and its not like there is much else going on with his game other than scoringmind boggling

How about the last 2 seasons where he has no major injuries? Newcastle have rushed him back from groan strains and so on several times to the detriment of his fitness.
