AjcW Posted 25 September 2009 Posted 25 September 2009 I have an unhealthy interest for all things business related, so I wanted to start this thread to find out a few things really. Mainly: What are your favourite Brands and why. Most people base there favourites on many different factors, such as the ethics of the brand and the looks of the brand and the products they sell. My personal favourites are the likes of Red Bull and Coca Cola for their clever marketing. Some me feel another favourite of mine, Vision Express is a strange choice but it is down to their clean look and excellent customer service. My favourite Alcohol brand is Jack Daniels, due to the history of the brand and the taste and smell of its product(s). This may seem a little strange but I hope to use this information one day. I know it will mainly appeal to those with an interest for business and marketing but I hope everyone can get involved. Cheers. Alex. Feel free to post images aswell to illustrate your choice.
Finchy Posted 25 September 2009 Posted 25 September 2009 I'd have to go for Apple, I like the products anyway but as an advertising/graphic design student the identity they have created is so inspiring. Ever since it was rebranded everything they have touched - products, packaging, adverts, software has been absolutely stunning.

How the heck did I not write apple down, im typing this on a mac whilst listening to music on my iphone . I agree with what you've said btw.
ozleicester Posted 26 September 2009 Posted 26 September 2009 Brands = Consumerism = the downfall of society people are foolish enough to pay more for something, purely because it has a particular name on it. We gleefully pay 3,5 even 10 times as much for a product purely down to the name. We happily ignore the fact that they are made in the same factory by, in many cases, the same child labour, simply so our friends will apparently be impressed with our latest whatever by whoever. As a member of the advertising industry for more than 15 years..i can tell you without a shadow of a doubt that we play you all for suckers

Fox92 Posted 26 September 2009 Posted 26 September 2009 Like above, I like Apple. They have the best iPod/MP3 players, the best mobile phone and some say the best computers so they are a brand I like. But, my favourite brand is Virgin because, simple as, Sir Richard Branson is my idol. So, I like all his products and I always take an interest in them. Top, world class brands such as Coca-Cola will never be beaten, I mean, that is the best drink to ever be created.

purpleronnie Posted 26 September 2009 Posted 26 September 2009 Fred perry, all these years later they still look the dogs bollocks.
Budweiser Posted 26 September 2009 Posted 26 September 2009 Fred perry, all these years later they still look the dogs bollocks. Fred Perry is quality. Apple has already been mentioned, I just like the look of them tbh not looking at the performance side of things. Erm, how about Firetrap & Diesel? They seem to knock out some quite nice stuff.
Tommeh Posted 26 September 2009 Posted 26 September 2009 It's like people who say tannoy when they mean public address system, tannoy is a brand name Main brands for me are Supedry/penguin/all saints, Oasis (drink, not shite band) and Apple.
The Birch Posted 26 September 2009 Posted 26 September 2009 Not necessarily favourite companies I use or buy from but what I think are great brands. If you showed that Nike tick to someone anywhere in the world they will probably recognise it as nike. Same with the McDonalds' 'M' Apple, Innocent, and Google I like becuase of the simplicity and sleek design.
Daggers Posted 26 September 2009 Posted 26 September 2009 Branding is for people who otherwise would spend days in a shop unable to come to a swift decision. All of the women in my family, for example.
Bellend Sebastian Posted 27 September 2009 Posted 27 September 2009 Who needs values when you can have brands?
AoWW Posted 27 September 2009 Posted 27 September 2009 Heinz have been around forever, but are still very successful.
Guest Posted 27 September 2009 Posted 27 September 2009 Who needs values when you can have brands? How about value brands? The best of both worlds. Russell and Jo. I was going to say Katy.

As a member of the advertising industry for more than 15 years..i can tell you without a shadow of a doubt that we play you all for suckers whilst i agree wholeheartedly with you on everything you have written i would like to play devil's advocate for the sake of the thread... i wonder if all of us, to some small degree fall into the trap. a chat with our friends will reveal a brand of computers we all think are good, a type of car that we reckon is more reliable a broadband company that had better customer services. I wonder how many of our opinions are truly based on fact or are influenced , in even some small degree and unbeknown to ourselves, on the confidence gained from a successful advertising campaign. i reckon most people don't have a clue just how important advertising is and how much of a crucial role it plays in the way we bond and relate with a specific brand. In fact i'd say there are probably 80% of the people reading this post right now who are convincing themselves that they dont listen to advertising and that it doesnt effect them and how clever they are at actually knowing the facts on everything before they purchase anything. Not saying people dont make informed choices, i just dont think some people realise the sub-concious effect of a good advertising campaign.
