Dr The Singh Posted 27 May 2009 Posted 27 May 2009 are you finally admitting then that Alan Sheehan is shit as he is also slow as fook Jimmy, I think you've got him there, well done lad!!!! Thracian, you owe me and Jimmy a beer, actually, you owe around 20!!!
flanimal Posted 30 May 2009 Posted 30 May 2009 In regards tto Neilson, I think he's a good signing. We're in The Championship, we're not going to get the greatest full-backs in the UK. All this guy needs to do is defend well, and pass the ball to someone better. He'll be fine. Providing he can do job and help keep a few clean sheets that'll propel us into The Premier League, the guy will be a great signing. Also, however shit he was at Hearts, Pearson will have a few months to mould him into the player he wants. I give this signing 7/10.
Lillehamring Posted 30 May 2009 Posted 30 May 2009 The 2 first choice centre backs at Chelsea in Terry and Carvalho don't really have much pace and they do all right they had an even slower player in front of them for a few years in Claude Makelele he didn't have any pace at all but even you surely can't deny that he hasn't been one of the best defensive midfielders the premiership has seen in the last 10 years.Pace isn't everything yes it helps but you don't have to be Usain Bolt to be a good player. yup, and let's not forget that taggart and elliot weren't quick, but they did ok...
flanimal Posted 30 May 2009 Posted 30 May 2009 How would you rate Elliott and Taggart's passing ability?
Thracian Posted 30 May 2009 Posted 30 May 2009 are you finally admitting then that Alan Sheehan is shit as he is also slow as fook His lack of pace has always concerned me but seeing as we haven't had no-one with great pace at left-back in City's first team the last three years he always seemed our best option and I've had no reasonsince to think otherwise . I always touted Sheehan for his attacking qualities and, in particular, his ability to deliver fast and accurate set pieces, to pass the ball and to help make and occasionally score goals. How many goals were made or scored from left-back last season even in Division One? Not a lot.
Jambojim1874 Posted 30 May 2009 Posted 30 May 2009 Had season ticket at Hearts for 15 years so seen Robbie Nielson progress to where he is now. He splits the support but no-one will have a bad word regards attitude. He is a 100% trier, never hides. Don't be fooled by the captain thing he's not really an organiser or a much of a shouter he got that after Berra left by default really. Very good defender in the traditional sense of the word, solid, good tackler, wont give up and would run through a brick wall for you. Not a wing back,he's deffo not going to be bombing to the line and whipping in crosses tbh it's hit and miss if any of his crosses will be good or bad. Not a great touch but not exactly a donkey. Decent pace but a speedy winger will give him problems so he will sit tight on him and get in about him early. However that takes him out the game as well! He is playing as well now as he ever has. Not being disrespectful but the championship will probably be as high as he ever goes. Maybury was a better all round player. Surprised he left us and like all others I wish him the very best at LCFC. Best wishes for the season lads, got a mate that's a Fox so genuinely be looking out for your results and hope you can get back to where you belong.
Finnegan Posted 30 May 2009 Posted 30 May 2009 Sheehan didn't have any "attacking qualities." He could take a set piece, that was all. Will you please, please, PLEASE put him to bed and let him go? I don't see any point in being negative about this signing to be honest. Our defenders are always slow, you don't need pace to be a defender. It might help if you're expected to go forwards but judging by what we've heard about Neilson he looks more like a center-back that they stick out wide than an actual attacking full back. That's fine. He can lump the ball into row zed eighty times a season for all I care as long as he kicks lumps out of Gary McSheffrey en route. Neilson sounds like a perfect Leicester hero in the making, frankly. Works hard, never stops, model pro, solid, strong. Done. Stop moaning and give him time.

The sort of players we've been missing when we've been in the Championship, the players with passion and hunger and the will to win. He doesn't need to attack like Gilbert did, if he does a solid job at the back, and helps us to a few clean sheets that is fine. Good signing.

Jimmy Posted 30 May 2009 Posted 30 May 2009 Jimmy. Your tirade is getting BORING now. then don't read my posts, I got bored of you criticizing them a long time ago

Thracian Posted 31 May 2009 Posted 31 May 2009 Hobbs and Tunchev dont have much pace, its their positional awareness and ability to read the game that makes them good players. So far! Their limitations and lack of pace may well find them out at a higher level. As Kevin Phillips showed when up against Tunchev in last summer's friendly. I don't hope it will happen but some fans forget we've been playing against the horse-racing equivalent of the also rans.

If Maybury was a better all round player we should send Nielson back. He sounds singularly limited. I've seen the Tiatto types that so many seem to worship and am not often impressed. Ashley Cole gave a demonstration yesterday of the sort of full-back I like.
DeclanMC Posted 31 May 2009 Posted 31 May 2009 Everytime a Hearts fan posts, I get progressively more worried. Prove us wrong Robbie!
Bert Posted 31 May 2009 Posted 31 May 2009 then don't read my posts, I got bored of you criticizing them a long time ago Don't tell me what I can or can't read. You never you'll never get the response from Thracian that you so badly want, so why bother?
Finnegan Posted 31 May 2009 Posted 31 May 2009 Ashley Cole gave a demonstration yesterday of the sort of full-back I like. Oh hang on then. I didn't realise that's what we were after. If you give me a minute I'll go hand my spare £30m to Milan.
Bert Posted 31 May 2009 Posted 31 May 2009 Oh hang on then. I didn't realise that's what we were after. If you give me a minute I'll go hand my spare £30m to Milan. Wait for me then, because I might as well hand in my spare £90k a week to pay his wages too.
Koke Posted 31 May 2009 Posted 31 May 2009 The reason Thracian is giving the bloke a hard time is because if he turns out to be what the Hearts fans described him as he will then go on about how he was "proved right" and how it's a disgrace why we haven't given Luke O'Neill a chance rather than a washed up nobody from Scotland. Mark my words. I'll give it till Christmas before the "I told you so" tirade will come out from Thracian.

He as a knack of keeping quiet when someone he slags off goes on the prove him wrong(Fryatt being and example) but all the players he goes on about (Psssh, Dodds to name a couple) have not exactly having great careers in the game are they!
Finnegan Posted 31 May 2009 Posted 31 May 2009 Wait for me then, because I might as well hand in my spare £90k a week to pay his wages too. I'll go start the car, Bert, while you're finding your checkbook. It takes me a little while to get all the liquid gold fuel into that platinum plated rocket car of ours.
Thracian Posted 31 May 2009 Posted 31 May 2009 Oh hang on then. I didn't realise that's what we were after. If you give me a minute I'll go hand my spare £30m to Milan. I always imagined you'd give your spare £30m to the poor!

He as a knack of keeping quiet when someone he slags off goes on the prove him wrong(Fryatt being and example) but all the players he goes on about (Psssh, Dodds to name a couple) have not exactly having great careers in the game are they! A bit weak that - only a day or two back I said we should release or loan out Luke O'Neill! Dodds would have been far better in our team than the likes of Horsfield and Cadamarteri, who were preferred at the time, which was the one and only reason I thought he should be given a first team chance. As for Fryatt he's never proved me wrong apart from scoring more goals than Dodds (who played midfield rather than as an out-and-out striker) in the season just ended. I defended Fryatt last close season saying loud and clear that he would score goals in Division One having demonstrated his capability for doing so at Walsall. Whether he can score goals and shine in The Championship is another matter entirely. I hope so but don't believe it. Unless he improves considerably, his strengths will be countered and his weaknesses will remain all too apparent. But, for the record, I'll be delighted to be proved wrong.
Finnegan Posted 31 May 2009 Posted 31 May 2009 I always imagined you'd give your spare £30m to the poor! Aye. My heart went out to Ashley when I heard Arsenal would only give him sixty grand a week. I swore there'd be a day I'd finally be able to help him out.

Two things have ****ed Psssh's career. Injury and being out of favour with Pearson. Neither have anything to do with his ability as a footballer. As for Dodds I only considered him as worthy of a bench place (except when Cort/Horsfield/Cadamarteri were chosen) and his performances for Rochdale, Lincoln and Port Vale suggest he would have been far better value for us in that role than either Dickov or Hayles. At least he's managed a full shift over those seasons and finished with a fairly good ratio of goals for an attacking midfielder. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Louis_Dodds
