Robbie Neilson

A few people seem to have pre -judged Neilson. Why not wait until he gets some games under his belt first? I trust Nigel to know what he is doing. He hasn't let us down yet.

For me it's simply a case of time will tell.

Don't know anything about him other than what has already been posted on here.

Suspect he's been signed as Mattock will surely be moving on.

Any of our defenders would have a lot to do to match, the one and only Tunch.

He's a right back.

I watched him against Celtic.

Hmmm... was caught out a couple of times although hard as nails and a big throw.

When he gets the ball, he tries to give it to the winger asap.

He looks like he has a hard one to me. Physical. Good tackle. Willingness to get forward. Experience.

He will turn out good.

Seen him play a few times on setanta and he has looked ok but not more than that.

Obviously hope he does well. His main strength seems to be his attitude which is never say die but my main concern is his lack of pace. Pace is essential and without it I think he could well struggle against the better teams in the championship. Gilbert used his pace quite often last season to get us out of trouble ths guy won't be able to do that. Our centre backs are not the quickest so for me having full backs with pace is pretty essential.

Also if our aim is ultimately to get promoted then I don't really think he will be good enough at the top end of the championship. Time will tell and if he was a back up right back I'd be happy but hoping for better quality signings than this overall.

Pace is just one element. Some of the best defenders have or had little or no pace, but relied on better positional sense, and an ability to read the game well.

Sami Hyypia who has just left Liverpool and is regarded as a legend has no pace at all, he is a brilliant reader of the game which is essential

Pace is just something that can make average players look better then they are, think Micah Richards playing CB...

And just how many teams had the courage to play more than a token attacking force against Liverpool, especially at Anfield?

Send a proper attacking line-up out against slow defenders and there's every chance they'll tear them apart if those attackers have speed, movement and play with width.

Ronaldo is not a great player because of his dribbling ability. It's his pace that unhinges defences. His pace out of defensive positions, his speed in losing a marker to get his headers in and his ability to go at markers so quickly that he commits them and so entices them to make a mistake and one which leaves them momentarily but fatally out of the game.

The 2 first choice centre backs at Chelsea in Terry and Carvalho don't really have much pace and they do all right they had an even slower player in front of them for a few years in Claude Makelele he didn't have any pace at all but even you surely can't deny that he hasn't been one of the best defensive midfielders the premiership has seen in the last 10 years.

Pace isn't everything yes it helps but you don't have to be Usain Bolt to be a good player.

You can't score a goal from a throw in without a player touching the ball before it goes into the net.

Rory De Lap threw the ball directly into the net a couple of weeks ago ( can't remember who Stoke were playing), but the ref dissallowed it...no goal.

didn't melberg do that for villa into his own goal a few years back against birmingham and that goal counted.

That's because the ref said Enkleman got a touch on the ball with the bottom of his foot as it went past him.

Enckelman may have accidentally touched it as it bobbled over his leg. Not sure about that though.

Hobbs and Tunchev dont have much pace, its their positional awareness and ability to read the game that makes them good players.

Firstly, they guy can defend, which is the most important thing, secondly he is experienced, third his hair would look fab in a turban!!

Not a bad signing, hopefully we will get Gilbert aswell, who offers inexperience and exitement, and a different proposition in a attacking sense!!
