Father Ted Posted 16 August 2009 Posted 16 August 2009 stringer on the radio did'nt seem that impressed with neilson what do we all think From what I saw yesterday I wasn't too impressed either. He seems as if he could be a weak link. He tries to bomb forward, tries to skin his man but gets tackled with ease and we were exposed a number of times because Neilson was too far forward. His passing is also not the greatest but this is only 1 match so...
Bert Posted 16 August 2009 Posted 16 August 2009 His throw will come in handy, that's for sure. He didn't have much of a run-up yesterday though.
Pete_foxes Posted 16 August 2009 Posted 16 August 2009 Neilson generally looked a bit off the pace, but too early to judge really. This being off the pace contributed to a lack of support for N'Guessan who often looked unsure as to whether to go for it or hang back and support his right back, thus frequently being caught out of positions for his throws, suffered through not being able to have a run up, Portman Road being so tight. I think they will be a threat in some circumstances. He makes the front post routinely, and one early throw made level with the penalty spot in terms of distance from what I saw, Dany hardly ever got back to support the Neilson!
Flynny Posted 16 August 2009 Posted 16 August 2009 He reminds me so much of Nils-Eric Johansson, both in his lumbering sprint and Viking hairstyle. I've got a feeling he'll be a similarly unspectacular player for us and hopefully he'll pop up with a goal as important as Nils at Preston one day. I was about to say this - I described him to a mate who has city as his second team as "A right-footed Johansson".
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 16 August 2009 Posted 16 August 2009 Having read the post-match player-ratings can anyone enlighten me on Neilson's throws?? Are they like Delap's or Challinor's of a few years back??? Think he had the longest throw ever. What a throw that was remember us defending well against it in the Cup final. Not really seen Neislon's throw but I ahve always thought that Oakley hasn't got a bad one, but never gets used effectively.
Guest Posted 16 August 2009 Posted 16 August 2009 from what I saw, Dany hardly ever got back to support the Neilson! It was a bit of both to be honest, just seemed like a lack of understanding between the two. Neilson wasn't supportive enough going forward for Dany, and the same vice versa IMO
Bryn Posted 16 August 2009 Posted 16 August 2009 From the stream, I wasn't tremendously impressed with Neilson... looked very average
Katy Posted 16 August 2009 Posted 16 August 2009 He looks slow to me. What do we want though? Being caught out or massive throws?
DJ Barry Hammond Posted 16 August 2009 Posted 16 August 2009 He looks slow to me. What do we want though? Being caught out or massive throws? I want both baby! God people are demanding aren't they - I didn't think he did that bad - he looked solid, nothing more, nothing less. At times he provided a decent overlap and a cross - he even got a wild shot in on his left foot. I didn't remember seeing too many dangerous crosses from the left (his right) flank either, so I don't know where all this has come from. Part of me think he's doomed in our fans eyes anyway as he's a right back from a Scottish Premier League club and we already have memories of previous right backs from the Scottish Premier League. In fact - have we owned a right back that anyone's liked in recent seasons? (Note - owned, Glibert doesn't count!)

I agree, I think people are being abit too harsh, it the guys first game for us! he did do abit of overlaping in the first half for N'Guessen early in the first half, but this admitidly did seem to die out after a little while and he started hoofing it, I wasnt expecting great things from him after all the not so glowing reports on him from Hearts fans on 606, the only time I remember him being caught out badly was when Lee Martin got in round the back, for which he got back and got the smallest of touches that probably just put him off and I did have a soft spot for Darren Kenton
leicesterfox86 Posted 17 August 2009 Posted 17 August 2009 Is a big throw enough to keep someone in the team? I'm guessing not as if so, Rory Delap would be playing for a top four club now! Neilson needs to offer a lot more, so hopefully he can improve a bit. Seems a bit slow to me, but solid enough.
carterfox90 Posted 17 August 2009 Posted 17 August 2009 he seems a bit slow to me his throws may become useful but does it warrant a starting place every game young o'neil seems more solid a defender to me imo but time will tell we will have to give neilson a few games untill we can judge him properly

flanimal Posted 18 August 2009 Posted 18 August 2009 Nielson will get good. Few more games, I reckon he'll be solid.
Munzie Posted 18 August 2009 Posted 18 August 2009 As with Portman Road, he'll find himself at various grounds this season with very little or no room on the touchline to be effective. From memory, I'm sure his first throw-in was ruled as a foul throw with his foot way over the line. I too, hope he improves. Based on his performance against Ipswich, he seemed a little slow against pacey wingers but did get forward to provide attacking support. Overall, an okay performace with more to come.

Thracian Posted 18 August 2009 Posted 18 August 2009 stringer on the radio did'nt seem that impressed with neilson what do we all think Not impressed at all. Either with his football or his elbow!
Edmund Posted 18 August 2009 Posted 18 August 2009 Not impressed at all. Either with his football or his elbow! Didn't he save what would have been a goal from Lee Martin with a slight touch even though he had been done for pace
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 18 August 2009 Posted 18 August 2009 Didn't he save what would have been a goal from Lee Martin with a slight touch even though he had been done for pace I thought that. He got a tocuh when running back which just took the ball slightly away from Martin who then had to cut inside and just gave it straight to Weale.

He got a tocuh when running back which just took the ball slightly away from Martin who then had to cut inside and just gave it straight to Weale. Glad I wasn't the only one who spotted that. Maybe not the best of displays but he certainly tried hard. Running back and not giving up to save a goal is hardly unimpressive in my books.
maddog Posted 19 August 2009 Posted 19 August 2009 Personally i wouldn't mind Morrison back in the side Saturday with Neilson benching it.
Tilley Posted 19 August 2009 Posted 19 August 2009 Personally i wouldn't mind Morrison back in the side Saturday with Neilson benching it. You do talk sense sometimes. Apart from his throw, Neilson looked crap.
maddog Posted 19 August 2009 Posted 19 August 2009 You do talk sense sometimes.Apart from his throw, Neilson looked crap. Yes but i only really posted in this topic to bump it up so the Blades poll disappeared off the first page because i did the Barnsley one But Neilson did look dodgy at Blades, and we don't want young Morrison getting de-moralised for not getting played. Does Camp jammy rice still play for Barnsley, i wouldn't like him up against Neilson, thats if he's a left winger
