Bryn Posted 31 May 2009 Posted 31 May 2009 I've been reading this place for a couple of years and every single player thread gets derailed by the same youth side nonsense from both sides of the coin.

Talk some more about the merits of Robbie Neilson by all means. Far better to talk about players who are likely to be involved with the club than those who are not. And by all means convince me Neilson is what we need to make progress at Championship level. I'l be much relieved.
maddog Posted 31 May 2009 Posted 31 May 2009 ooooooooooo Robbie Robbie! Robbie, Robbie, Robbie, Robbie Neilson. ooooooooooo Robbie Robbie! Robbie, Robbie, Robbie, Robbie Neilson. ooooooooooo Robbie Robbie! Robbie, Robbie, Robbie, Robbie Neilson.

Finnegan Posted 31 May 2009 Posted 31 May 2009 Just wait and see what happens rather than berating the bloke before he has even kicked a ball. You need to be a mod.
Thracian Posted 31 May 2009 Posted 31 May 2009 Just wait and see what happens rather than berating the bloke before he has even kicked a ball. That's not "berating" anyone. That is simply concern. I've expressed similar concern about various City signings before they kicked a ball for the first team - Kaebi and Jimmy Nielsen were among them - and I didn't have cause to regret it. I've waited a long time for us to sign or develop the sort of full-backs we need to start restoring our fortunes and, from what has been said by people who watched him, this guy doesn't sound as if he fits the bill. If the "people" prove misguided I'll be happy to say so but times in our Championship years (including pre-season) I complained that that we didn't have the wingers or attacking midfielders to help us create sufficient goals. I've not heard many complaints since we addressed those problems and started scoring more. Attacking full-backs will only improve our attacking potential still further and if Neilson proves such a person I'll be happy to acknoiwledge the fact.

Cat Burger Posted 31 May 2009 Posted 31 May 2009 As long as we sign a good, quick left back to bomb on and also to provide some recovery pace, I think he can be good for the team, or the squad at the very least.

I like attaching full backs, I have to admit. That said, we need to vary our tactics next season. We can't just go out and attack every team we play. My one criticism of our team over this season is that we've been too one dimensional. Relying on Steve Howard far too often nearly caught us out as other teams began to suss this and we suffered when he wasn't in the line-up.. A squad consisting of players that can come off the bench and have a positive impact in changing the game is required. We played better football with the introduction of wingers this season (something which we lacked, the season before). Having both attacking and defensive options all over the park can only be a good thing. Changing patterns of play to suit the opposition is something that we need to start doing. This should be easier with the right personnel.

It takes time to build the right team, and with the signing of Neilson, the possibility of using Morrison at right back, and the chance of Gilbert coming back, that gives us three different types of full back at our disposal. I like this.
Bert Posted 5 June 2009 Posted 5 June 2009 New signing Robbie Neilson is backing Leicester City to challenge for Championship honours next season. The 28-year-old full-back knew from the moment he met manager Nigel Pearson that City were the club for him. And the Scot firmly believes they can deliver the ultimate dream – Premier League football. Neilson has joined City from Hearts on a three-year deal and is already house-hunting. Despite having never set foot in Leicestershire before the move, his first impressions of club and county have been positive and the start of the season cannot come soon enough. It took just one phone call to trigger his interest. "Steve Walsh (City's head of recruitment) rang me and I decided to come down and take a look around," said Neilson. "I met Nigel Pearson and right away I made up my mind that I wanted to sign. "He is a generous guy, very positive and has great ambition for the club. "He doesn't want to finish mid-table next season, he wants to push on and get promotion. That was a big incentive for me. "My ultimate ambition is to play in the Premier League, it's every players' dream. "The facilities here are fantastic and I've got the perfect opportunity to push on in my career and play at higher levels. "It is a big pull to come and play in England and I'm absolutely delighted to be here." Neilson was out of contract after 13 years at Hearts. There were offers from abroad and other Scottish clubs but, once City had made their move, there was only one place to go. "I have two young daughters and a third child on the way, so it wasn't the time to go abroad," he said. "We need to sort out schools and get settled as soon as possible, which is why we're already house-hunting. "As regards Scotland, I might as well have stayed with Hearts because they are a big club and finished third behind Rangers and Celtic last season. "After 13 years at Tynecastle, I thought I needed a new challenge. "There are only so many big games in a Scottish season. "In the Championship I'll be involved in big games every week, playing at big venues in front of packed crowds. "It will be a major challenge and one I'm really looking forward to." Neilson describes himself as "an experienced defender." He said: "Full-back is my job and I will be looking after the right side of the defence. If I can get forward, great, but my main task is to defend. "I also have a long throw in my armoury, which was very successful at Hearts. If I can target someone like Steve Howard, then I'm sure it will give us different options in attack and, hopefully, create goal-scoring chances." Neilson has been capped once for Scotland, in 2006, but a return to the international scene is not uppermost in his thoughts. "It is more important to play well for your club and, if Scotland come calling on the back of that, then that would be great. "It is not a big issue for me, I just want to do well here in Leicester." Neilson.
Jiggers the Fox Posted 5 June 2009 Posted 5 June 2009 I have a sly feeling he'l be a good addition to the squad, i have plenty of faith in pearson!!

BlabyFox Posted 5 June 2009 Posted 5 June 2009 A mod should open a topic giving the latest news from the OS & the mercury because half the threads are just links to there pages.

C-man Posted 5 June 2009 Posted 5 June 2009 A mod should open a topic giving the latest news from the OS & the mercury because half the threads are just links to there pages. So you'd both like to search through threads 50+ pages long to find something? Having different threads for different topics makes sense and gives the search function a meaning.
Maybes Posted 5 June 2009 Posted 5 June 2009 This guy does talk the talk. We shall she if he walks the walk. All this talk of promotion is getting me excited
Shrenchel Posted 5 June 2009 Posted 5 June 2009 A mod should open a topic giving the latest news from the OS & the mercury because half the threads are just links to there pages. and then when people wanted to comment on that thing?do it in the same thread so we've got one fook off long thread with several discussions going at the same time?!start a new thread where you would probably put a link to the article anyway so everyone knew what you were chatting about?! Doesn't really make sense does it brains?
