ivarti Posted 1 September 2009 Posted 1 September 2009 He didn't have a great game but the 3 times I've seen him play have all been good solid performances. This always seems to happen with our right backs though. Go back down the years and players like Grayson, Morgan and even Gary Mills who rarely put a foot wrong have gone through spells where unless they win the ball in a flamboyant sliding tackle, recover and beat four men before planting an accurate cross onto the head of our star forward, they're "shit and shouldn't be wearing the shirt. Bastard!" At Filbert Street it was understandable because the right back spent most of the game running the line in front of the whingeing bastards in the West Stand, now it just seems to be everyone chipping in.Maybe it's our fans in general. We're not happy unless we're moaning and at the moment Neilson is The New Maybury in some people's eyes. Robbie doesn't have the skill to play in the Championship, and I have seen him twice, against Ipswich and Barnsley, and I cannot understand why he is picked in front of Tunchev and Morrison. Morrison played in our first two games of the season and never let anyone down, he scored two goals against S****horpe and can play in all positions in the back. Sorry lads, I am not at all after Neilson, but this is proffesional football and we would like Pearson to sign players that has the abillity to see us progress. Patrick Kisnorbo was shipped out on a free, and to be honest I would rather have seen him in this position. A player with 100 games or more. I am bit worried if Pearson makes more mistakes in the market. The signings of Paul Gallagher and Yann Kermorgant are also strange. Let's hope that we are wrong and that Pearson are right, but we need to use our cash wisely if we are to progress in this division. We must sign players that are better than the once we got or else things will just start to wander in the wrong direction
Stueyt74 Posted 1 September 2009 Posted 1 September 2009 I think he's been a very good signing and would much rather have him than Gilbert, who wasn't all there defensively and often had a poor first touch. Neilson has a good head on his shoulders and bags of experience. He's a good leader and that's precisely what we need in the back line. Pearson doesn't sign players just based on their ability, he looks at how well they communicate and fit into a team. Good signing, end of.
Scow Posted 1 September 2009 Posted 1 September 2009 I dont think Neilson has done a lot wrong to be honest, defensively he is a lot better then Gilbert, also gilbert on the ball was quite shocking at times. I think Neilson has shown he's more comfortable on the ball than Gilbert. I wasn't expecting much distribution wise when I read some of the comments from Hearts fans, but I think he tends to choose the right pass more often than the wrong one. For me he just keeps it simple: keeps the ball moving, passes it quickly and attempts to get in the right position when the team move forward. He's not the quickest, and I can see him being exposed in future games, but he'll be reliable for most of the time on the pitch and you can't question his effort. Gilbert provided our back four with much needed pace last season, and although his distribution wasn't all that, he freed up space down that rght side. The problem with Gilbert was that he looked vulnerable from diagonal balls over him and did look a bit wanting defensively at times. Remember that we've only conceded two goals in four league games with Neilson in the side, so he can't be as bad as others have indicated.
MPH Posted 1 September 2009 Posted 1 September 2009 Nielsen started woefully last night... He improved marginally as the evening went on and ended up just about average.
potter3 Posted 2 September 2009 Posted 2 September 2009 Not been impressed by him in any match so far this season, he's ok defensively for the most part, but aside from that he doesn't offer much, he never seems to want to overlap either, he gets level to N'Guessan or whoever, and then stops. There was one particular time last night where Oakley (I think) played it through into acres of space expecting Neilson to be there but he'd inexplicably stopped.

I still think there's a lack of understanding between N'Guessan and him down the right but honestly I think that's more down to Dany not doing enough defensively rather than him not supporting going forwards. Overall, a solid if not outstanding start to his time here at City, I'm pretty happy.
Guest Basildon Fox Posted 2 September 2009 Posted 2 September 2009 I will make a prediction that if this thread is brought back 6 months from now that most peoples opinions will have changed on him. He will not cut it at this level IMO. He is too slow and too often he will play a pass too short to one of his team mates near his own goal instantly putting us in trouble. Because of his pace he can not get up and down the pitch and so leaves us exposed which sooner rather than later teams will begin to exploit. People say he will get better but as the saying goes you can't polish a turd. Hope I am wrong though.

Munzie Posted 2 September 2009 Posted 2 September 2009 Neilson is an experienced full back that WILL find his feet at this level. Despite some inaccurate passing, he has already shown that he is capable of doing a solid job defensively and supports our attack as much as possible, something we have lacked for years.
Dr The Singh Posted 2 September 2009 Posted 2 September 2009 He' a solid full back, with a good long throw and likes to go forward. For the money we've paid for him it wasn't a bad deal. He has some serious weakness, his crossing and passing can be poor, but all in all he's very solid!! Personally i would have liked to see Gilbert at the club as competition for the position!!
Guest Basildon Fox Posted 2 September 2009 Posted 2 September 2009 With predictions like that I'd say you're hopeful that you're proved correct Not at all. Just saying as I find rather than have blue tinted lenses on. I do hope I am completely wrong but I doubt I am.
breadandcheese Posted 2 September 2009 Posted 2 September 2009 I think Neilson was okay, but I thought N'Guessan was actually woeful. I hope he was just stifled by a classy left-back but I suspect his decision making is just terrible, on the couple of occasions he was free and clear for once he played it backwards or shot instead of going for the cross he didn't manage to get in all night.(Hope I'm wrong) I guess I'm a fag too because I thought the same.
Jimmy Posted 2 September 2009 Posted 2 September 2009 Its hardly surprising Dany N'Guessan, who's at the highest level he has ever played at, will struggle aoccasionally
Legend_in_blue Posted 2 September 2009 Posted 2 September 2009 I don't get this. He's on a par with Berner at LB and yet he's getting all the stick. Berner was caught out of position on countless occasions on Monday night and yet many people haven't picked up on it because he ran forward with the ball and got into the box and crossed? If he did, he wasn't all that effective.

Darkzzz_ Posted 2 September 2009 Posted 2 September 2009 After hearing bad things about him whilst away on holiday I decided to look closely at his game against Barnsley, I thought some of his tackling was superb, especially on Hume. He seems weak going forward, but he covered well in that particular game. Against Newcastle he wasn't that bad. Didn't have a great game but doesn't deserve the abuse he has received by some.
ithuriel Posted 2 September 2009 Posted 2 September 2009 I guess there will always be one disliked player in any squad and if it is Nielson it shows how far the squad has improved since Pearson took charge as manager. Personally i think the team is faring extremely well considering the massive rebuilding job that has been done and if we manage to hold onto Pearson we have a very good chance of getting into the Premier League once again. I'm hoping Mandy has learned a lesson and given the guy a long term well paid contract with a massive sell on clause once the inevitable sackings in the Premier league start to occur.
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 2 September 2009 Posted 2 September 2009 I dont know what all this Neilson is a bad player things is. He has done nothbing wrong so far in my eyes and has been very steady. Reminds me of Nils Eric Johansson. Isnt quick but is relaiable.
Filbert_Ross Posted 3 September 2009 Posted 3 September 2009 i like what ive seen of him so far. loved that crunching tackle on Hume when Hume was defending round his own box in front of the Kop.
TrickyTrev Posted 3 September 2009 Posted 3 September 2009 I'm just disappointed we have reverted to having 2 of our back 4, Brown and Nielson, being poor distributors. One of the major reasons for our improvement last season is that we had two ball carriers at full back and that our defenders were encouraged to think about their effect on our attacking play. I'm fine with Nielson being here, however, our squad needs an alternative in the position who is comfortable taking the ball forward and attempting difficult passes.
Tommy G Posted 3 September 2009 Posted 3 September 2009 I thought our entire back four with the exception of brown were poor against Newcastle. Hobbs backed off their striker and made him look really good when he was just average. Hobbs also made some errors in trying to play simple balls or clearing balls out our half. Berners positioning was shag, and he got done for pace and skinned on a few occasions. Neilson was slow and lacked a lot technically, even his throw ins weren't brilliant. N'Guessan was by far our worse player aainst Toon, he looked completely lost apart from the 1st 10 mins. Adams should have come on in the 60th min not the 85th!! Plenty for NP to think about
leicesterfox86 Posted 3 September 2009 Posted 3 September 2009 Neilson is an experienced full back that WILL find his feet at this level. Despite some inaccurate passing, he has already shown that he is capable of doing a solid job defensively and supports our attack as much as possible, something we have lacked for years. He is capable, that's the point. Nothing more, nothing less. He isn't going to set the world alight, he isn't going to be POTS and he isn't going to have the big clubs sniffing after him. A solid defender who will so a job for us this season.

The first time I watch Leicester was in the 70ties and a young lad played one of his first matches. He wasn't that good at the time but the crowd supported him all the way. Guess who ?? Give the gay some games to settle down. He is slow but not out of posision !!
C-man Posted 3 September 2009 Posted 3 September 2009 Give the gay some games to settle down. He is slow but not out of posision !! Neilson's gay? Right, get him out!
Flynny Posted 3 September 2009 Posted 3 September 2009 I thought our entire back four with the exception of brown were poor against Newcastle. At yet Brown was the one at fault for the goal.
